  1. I think with Fox's input, they are going to have a pretty solid acquisition strategy, and if the Coordinators are experienced, they will be able to maximize their talents (unlike the clowns we had).
  2. If he is no longer with SF, why are they asking permission and to who? SF has had a great defense, and this would be a very solid hire. Also means shift to 3-4 (or at least hybrid).
  3. Looks like Shanny and Allen are early favorites. I have seen Gase and Mularkey mentioned as well.
  4. That is not correct, that only applies to Head Coaches:
  5. They also "publicly" fired Kromer and fired Kevin Turks. Also, they have moved quickly: Dec 29th - Emery/Trestman fired January 8th - Ryan Pace hired (10 days later) January 16th - Fox hired (8 days later) So in 18 days (which included New Year's holiday), this franchise has done an internal 180 in terms of vision and leadership, and something we haven't seen in a long time if ever. Now we are on to the next step of Coordinators/Assistants, Roster and draft prospect evaluations.
  6. Fox QB's 2014 - Manning 2013 - Manning 2012 - Manning 2011 - Tebow, Orton (8-8) 2010 - Clausen, Moore, St. Pierre (2-14) 2009 - Delhomme, Moore (8-8) 2008 - Delhomme 2007 - Testaverde, Carr, Moore, Delhomme (7-9) 2006 - Delhomme, Weinke (8-8) 2005 - Delhomme 2004 - Delhomme (7-9) 2003 - Delhomme, Peete 2002 - Peete, Fasani, Weinke (7-9)
  7. I am very excited and really like this hire (compared to my non-committal stance on Trestman - it never felt right). Pace knows what he is doing and I think pairing him with a veteran coach with sustained success (and a ton of experience and respect) is a great move. Looking at Fox's numbers, he has been remarkable at turning around organizations: In Carolina, he took a 1-15 team and improved by 6 games the next year and improved by 4 more games in Year #2 and reaches the Super Bowl (lost by Vinatieri FG after Kasay kicks ball out of bounds on kickoff). (CAR) Year Before Fox: 1-15, 28th in pts, 31st in yds Fox's 1st Year: 7-9, 5th in pts, 2nd in yds In Denver, a very similar tune. He was hired right after being fired in Carolina. He then takes a 4-12 team and improves by 4 wins in year #1 (and advances to 2nd round of playoffs with Tebow at QB), then gains 5 more gains in year #2 with another playoff visit. (DEN) Year Before Fox: 4-12, 32nd in pts, 32nd in yds Fox's 1st Year: 8-8, 24th in pts, 20th in yds Average of 5 more wins in year #1 and 9.5 by year #2. Now it may be a little unrealistic to expect the exact same results, but the precedence is there to at least improve. 5 wins would give us 10, and 9 wins makes us a 14 win team in year #2. I would be happy with 9-7 and 11-5. Where he really excels is on the defensive side of the ball. Here are all Fox's teams Defensive Rankings. To me all this is very promising. Defensive Ranks YR - PTS - YDS 2014 - 16 - 3 2013 - 22 - 19 2012 - 4 - 2 2011 - 24 - 20 (DEN) 2010 - 26 - 18 (CAR) 2009 - 9 - 8 2008 - 12 - 18 2007 - 15 - 16 2006 - 8 - 7 2005 - 5 - 3 2004 - 15 - 20 2003 - 10 - 8 2002 - 5 - 2
  8. Oh, I was talking about the media, some are hating the pick.
  9. I just hate the detractors talking about how Fox is only good because Peyton Manning, then the same could be said about Dungy, etc. In a way Manning was the reason why Fox lost. I thought his run with Tebow was amazing. He completely revamped the scheme and game plan to maximize the strengths of his players. If he did that with our team, we are 3-4 games better instantly. back in Chi-town:
  10. Thanks, saw it on Twitter, instant classic. Thinking about this from Fox's perspective, we had to either offer him a ton of cash or something was appealing enough to take the position that quick. Hopefully it was Pace's vision and direction of the team. That would be refreshing. Any news on where Emery is going next? Of all our coaching hires, is Fox the most seasoned coach we have ever signed? All the previous ones dating back to Armstrong and Pardee seem to all be coordinators or assistants.
  11. Woo Hoo, and thanks for the original scoop (2 for 2). Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer 12m12 minutes ago
  12. I am sure it has something to do with Coordinators and Assistants, that is why Pace went to Denver. I hope it gets done today so the staff can get to the Senior Bowl next week.
  13. This is what I said in another thread, still seems pretty accurate. Looking at some early mocks, it seems that the consensus is that Mariota, Williams, Cooper, Gregory, and Winston will all be gone in the top 6, leaving only one other player drafted before we pick, probably from the group of: (Beasley-LB, Ray-DE, Scherff-OT, Collins-S, Fowler-LB, Thompson-LB, Parker-WR, Peat-OT, Dupree-DE).
  14. Looks like he was fined by team for weight: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/broncos-playe...-171300324.html Don't know if that having the same coach would hurt or help our cause. He is definitely an immovable object when he is in there.
  15. Yeah I saw that, so I would assume Pace is meeting/interviewing Coordinators with Fox?
  16. Yeah I was thinking that as well, maybe he was flying back to talk to assistants before making an announcement.
  17. I hope he is just flying back to get a different suit.
  18. btw, if you are 2/2 with this hire, you need to start your own tweeter feed. and my last comparison for the night: Fox Overall 13 seasons 7 playoff appearances (54%) 2 Super Bowl appearances (15%) 6 seasons with 11 or more wins (46%) 1 season with 5 or less wins (2-14 last year in Carolina) (8%) Bears 13 seasons (2002-2014) 3 playoff appearances (23%) 1 Super Bowl appearance (7%) 3 seasons with 11 or more wins (23%) 3 seasons with 5 or less wins (23%) Fox (w/o Manning) 10 seasons 4 playoff appearances (40%) 1 Super Bowl appearances (10%) 3 seasons with 11 or more wins (30%) 1 season with 5 or less wins (2-14 last year in Carolina) (10%) Lovie w/ Bears 9 seasons 3 playoffs (33%) 1 Super Bowl (11%) 3 seasons with 11 or more wins (33%) 1 season with 5 or less wins (11%) Lovie Overall 10 seasons 3 playoffs (30%) 1 Super Bowl (10%) 3 seasons with 11 or more wins (30%) 2 season with 5 or less wins (20%) Fox is going to be, at worst, slightly better than Lovie, and will definitely bring in better Coordinators than we have had in quite some time. What is remarkable to me is a Fox team has only finished below 7-9 once (2-14 in 2010).
  19. First off, Dilfer is one of the worst QB's of all time, and it is hard for me to listen to him analyze QB play when he doesn't even know how to play the position. Looking at the video, I didn't see those plays as blatant Cutler failures: 1st play - Cutler goes thru progressions/throwing lanes and throws to safest receiver (Forte) based on what the defense was giving him. I didn't see much wrong with that play. 2nd play - Forte completely misses block and defender is in Jay's face before the yellow x-ray vision beam comes out of his eyes. He would literally have to have thrown it dropping back on his 2nd step to get it to the receiver who was not looking for the ball, and the WR highlighted did not break route off anyway. 3rd play - Looks like he was trying to pump fake and held the ball too long, not much blocking when Peppers gets all the way over to that side almost untouched (just watch Peppers on the entire play). On this one, he needed to just throw the ball and not hesitate, but that is assuming we know what the route was. 4th Play - LB is biting on Bennett's route right in Cutler's view, MLB is stuck between routes (good thing), Cutler then goes to his next receiver and a DB comes up to make the tackle. I didn't think that was a big deal or a blatant failure either. Cutler was part of the problem on offense, but the O-Line was not very good, and the game plan seemed very predictable. I believe the biggest change was with the ability for Cutler to audible at the line in or out of a running play. This seemed to cause most of the problems, especially with consistency and pre-snap penalties. We also never really stretched the field as Marshall/Jeffery are basically the same speed, and Bennett is only 2 tenths slower.
  20. Fox + Gase or Shanahan would arguably be the best combination of HC/OC that we have had in a long time. Here is a look back at the last 15 years of HC/OC and Offensive rankings (in other words futility): YR - HC/OC - Pts/Yds 14 Trestman/Kromer - 23/21* 13 Trestman/Kromer - 2/8 12 Smith/Tice - 16/28* 11 Smith/Martz - 17/24* 10 Smith/Martz - 21/30 09 Smith/Turner - 19/23* 08 Smith/Turner - 14/26 07 Smith/Turner - 18/27 06 Smith/Turner - 2/15 05 Smith/Turner - 26/29 04 Smith/Shea - 32/32* 03 Jauron/Shoop - 23/28* 02 Jauron/Shoop - 27/29 01 Jauron/Shoop - 11/26 00 Jauron/Crowton - 28/23* AVERAGE: 18.6 Pts/24.6 Yards * - OC changed during/after season So basically we have averaged 19th in scoring offense and 25th in yardage over the past 15 years. If you removed what seems to be the two anomaly years, we would drop to 22nd/26th. Just for comparison, our defense was ranked 14.5 in pts and 17th in yards over that same period, and without the last two years we were 12th in pts and 15th in yards. That was actually really surprising to see us that low on defense, but we really only had 4 top 10 defensive years under Lovie.
  21. Damn, throwing SMC under the bus for the offense. He was that bad that he affected the offense.
  22. Due to the fact that he was fired for "lack of leadership" and "losing the locker room" in addition to the subpar performance, I would say getting struck by lightning would be more probable.
  23. I think it will depend on the combine and his pro day (if he has one). Those would solidify his status a lot.

    Bowles

He was linked with Atlanta and Quinn was linked with the Jets. Interesting twist of events. I also forgot SF is still looking for an HC.
