We are screwed at QB
"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" I don't think we are that bad off. There are several QB's rated higher than Prescott was last year, and we have a shot to pick any of them up by the 3rd round. As for vets, at this point, I don't know how anyone can say Cutler is better than Hoyer. If we had any kind of a defense and weren't decimated with injuries, we definitely win 2-3 more games with Hoyer starting. Check out the worst games of the year by a QB (based on QBR): Keenum 5.1 in Week 1 Cutler 11.7 in Week 2 Mariota 2.9 in Week 3 Fitzpatrick 7.2 in Week 3 Roethlisberger 5.4 in Week 6 Bradford 9.9 in Week 7 Cutler 4.6 in Week 10 Goff 9.6 in Week 14 Carr 10.8 in Week 14 Fitzpatrick 9.3 in Week 16 Sanchez 4.7 in Week 17 Goff 9.6 in Week 17 Cutler had 2 of them and that was out of 5 total games. That is brutal. Even Barkley's worst games (which were pretty bad didn't even equate to how bad Cutler was against TB. Go back and watch that game (Week 10) and see how bad Cutler was. It is sickening to watch that game again. Only Mariota in Week 3 was worse (based on QBR). I say we sign Hoyer, draft a QB in the 3rd to 4th round, and go with Hoyer/Shaw/rookie this year and stock up on defense, OT, WR, and TE in draft and free agency. Based on previous years, we can bring in 3-4 starters via free agency, and draft 3-4 more. That could potentially be 8 new starters of the 22 this season.

I can't see Garrett getting to us at #3, only one of the top 2 teams will take a QB.

So there is positive correlation between blocking skills and the amount of reps at 225? Wouldn't one rep max or something like that be a better measure? I'm not saying strength isn't important but bench press at a fixed weight for everyone regardless of their weight is a little misleading.

Alshon not expected back.
So what you are trying to say is:

Alshon not expected back.
I didn't want to make another Alshon thread, but it looks like his agent and the Bears had a positive meeting today per Rapaport. So him re-signing is not out of the question yet.

I'm no expert but Trubisky and Watson both looked solid, made all the throws and footwork, throwing motion, etc all looked good. Based solely on combine performance, I would not have any issues drafting either of them in the first.

Is bench even that important for a RB?

He officially beat him with a 4.22.

I really liked Zay Jones, very smooth, and caught pretty much everything.

throwing now on NFL Network I thought Kizer looked like crap, threw a couple of outs behind the WR, then over threw on the crossing patterns. He looked better to the right. However, he would not be in my top 5. His first throw to the left for the curl routes, he over threw by 4-6 feet, it was ugly. I am not impressed. The kid from Iowa has looked pretty good (Beathard), and I like what I have seen from Dobbs from Tennessee (who is an Aerospace Engineer).

If the Bears pass on Cam Robinson in the first, I think we can still get a starter in the 2nd or 3rd with any of these guys: Garett Bolles, OT, Utah, reminds me of Kyle Long, had some issues, but has been dominating and was top 5 in all combine events for OL. He is also older (25 in May) and that may make some pass on him. 1st in Broad Jump Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy, 2nd in Vert Jump Forrest Lamp, OT, Western Kentucky, 2nd in bench with 34 reps, 4th in Broad Jump Dorian Johnson, OT, Pittsburgh, 5th in Vert Jump, 2nd in Broad Jump, 2nd in 3-Cone, 4th in 20yd Shuttle,

Yes, my point was the more RB's that look good and move up the draft board, the better options we will have at our need positions.

Brandon Marshall Released...
For Marshall, I was thinking Seattle or Carolina, but either way, whatever team gets him, they should prepare to miss the playoffs.

Connor Shaw re-signed
Connor Shaw re-signed with Bears: https://twitter.com/cmshaw8/status/838037560798687233 Great signing, I think he has the potential to at least be a quality backup and potentially a starter.

Christian McCaffrey is killing it, definitely a first round lock. Hopefully more RBs go in the first, which would be helpful for the Bears 2nd round pick.

Bears said to be interested in Mike Glennon
Hoyer/Shaw is probably the best option this year. However, I don't think that should mean not drafting one in the first 3 rounds. You also mentioned Schaub in another post, would you rather have him than Hoyer? What about Geno Smith, RG3?

Bears said to be interested in Mike Glennon
It is definitely going to be someone no one is talking about, like Geno Smith.......
-
Bears Looking at AJ McCarron
Sure, but does he have enough tape to make that assessment?
-
Bears Looking at AJ McCarron
Is McCarron, a 5th Round pick (#164) worth pick #67? That is a pretty high pick. I would not give more than a 4th for him.
-
Alshon not expected back.
Since we are not cutting him, if he signs a decent deal, we will at least get a comp pick for him next year. The Chargers got a 5th for Royal, so I would assume we would at least get a 4th for Jeffery. If Cutler and Alshon walk, that would be Cutler, Forte, Marshall, Jeffery, and Bennett all lost since the start of the Pace tenure (on offense alone).

Free agent options
33 yrs old, just missed a bunch of games last year, and he plays C/G, which is literally the strength of the team (Long, Sitton, Whitehair), so I don't know if he would add anything at this point. Where would he play?

Addressing the QB, Bears top priority
Stafford is as much of a Franchise QB as Cutler is. No issues with Luck, but still too early to anoint Winston.
-
Bears Working to Trade Cutler
Bill Polian was on Sirius and said that if Cutler was released, he would be the best option of the available free agents. He also said he would take McCarron over any of the QB's in the draft fwiw.
-
Aaron Lemings complete makeover
Why would we sign a 31 yr old DE, not address OT until the 5th round, sign a FA TE and then draft another, then draft an RB? I think we can do better than that.
-
Bears Working to Trade Cutler
It will suck if we just cut him and get absolutely nothing in return for how many picks we gave up for him originally.
