Due to SoS, if NYJ won out and we lost our last two, we would jump over them. However, WAS SoS is too low for us to pass. Right now it comes down to what ATL and NYG do. Hopefully they both can win at least one of their last two and we can lose out to jump them both into 7th. STL SoS basically ensures we will not fall below 11th. So right now 7th-11th is our range. 1. TB 2-12 (.467) 2. TEN 2-12 (.503) 3. JAX 2-12 (.538) 4. OAK 2-12 (.571) 5. WAS 3-11 (.469) 6. NYJ 3-11 - NE, @MIA (.536) 7. ATL 5-9 - @NO, CAR (.495) 8. NYG 5-9 - @STL, PHI (.505) 9. CHI 5-9 - DET, @MIN (.513) 10. CAR 5-8-1 - ATL, TB (.503) 11. MIN 6-8 - @MIA, CHI (.482) 12. STL 6-8 - NYG, @SEA (.536) With the 7th pick being the best we can get (realistically), and assuming Mariota, Winston, and Cooper come off in the top 5-6, that leaves us with a basically a top 5 pick from all the other positions (minus QB and WR).
-
Yeah, addressing S and LB in the first two rounds would be a great start.
-
Yeah, essentially, if we are not going after a QB in the first, then a top 10 pick will get a top 8 talent for all positions other than QB assuming Mariota and Winston go before we pick. That should leave a stud there at 10 or 11.

1. TB 2-12 2. TEN 2-12 3. JAX 2-12 4. OAK 2-12 5. WAS 3-11 6. NYJ 3-11 7. ATL 5-9 - @NO, CAR 8. NYG 5-9 - @STL, PHI 9. CHI 5-8 - NO, DET, @MIN 10. NO 5-8 - @CHI, ATL, TB 11. STL 6-8 - NYG, @SEA 12. MIN 6-8 - @MIA, CHI 13. HOU 7-7 - BAL, JAX 14. CLE 7-7 15. MIA 7-7 16. SF 7-7 We are still capable of getting all the way up to the 7th pick thanks to the Giants, but we would have to lose out and ATL would need to win at least one. The worst looks like it is still 12th. Realistically, 10th or 11th seems about right if you projected us winning 7 and beating MIN who would then swap with us.

I am not saying he is wrong about how he feels, but in his position as the Offensive Coordinator, you can't handle it like that. Being critical publicly is one thing, but doing it anonymously is pretty cowardly. This team already had problems and now you add coaching trust into the mix (if it already wasn't there). So yeah, I agree that if he wanted out, that this was probably a safe way to get out without being the bad guy. Now every player will question if he is even being truthful to them about anything. How is Kromer absolved from any of this? Because he leaked something about Cutler, audibles, and buyers remorse? To me it was more CYA than anything. There was absolutely nothing to gain from leaking anything to the media at this point. He needs to shoulder some of the blame for the offensive drop off as well, he is the OC.
-
Some classic tweets:
-
Why? He is the OC, and we have regressed as a team. The play calling, which he owns is horrible. Who knows, Trestman might have given Kromer more control over the offense and this is what we got. Who leaks something as anonymous then admits to doing it? Someone that was probably going to be outed. So in order to save face, you come out and admit it. Sounds weak to me. Zero accountability in this organization. He should be fired on the spot. Say it on the record or don't say it.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if he is gone before the end of the season. What a complete mess.
-
Interesting that we are 2-1 with a FB and 3-7 without one.

I would be concerned with Petty's comp%. 62% is not very good for college football. If we couldn't land Mariota in the first, then I would look at Grayson or Hundley. Hundley has a comp% over 70 and Grayson is at 65% with a 32-6 TD/INT ratio. I like Grayson's writeup as well:
-
I just didn't see a scenario where Cutler was kept an the entire organization was purged, but I guess it is possible.
-
Yeah, the clean house option was everyone, including Emery.
-
So what do you think? Vote and add comments. This is what you want to see as a Bears fan this year.
-
Yeah, I agree, this is the way to go if you can do it. Just like these last 3 games, you essentially make next year a throw-away lame duck year. It is better to cut sling early and move on than to live with the mistake longer.
-
Either really, if we were looking for a replacement for Cutler, it would more than likely come from this group.
-
At least this is a move in the right direction. However, this does create a lame duck/one and done scenario for whoever comes in, because if Trestman only gets one more year, the new guy might be out of a job after one year. On the other hand, you basically have nowhere to go but up and you are going to look like a savior when the defense is ranked 20th next year.
-
This is not an all-inclusive list, but most of the names that have started at least a few games and are under 30: Ryan Mallet, 26 Jake Locker, 26 Christian Ponder, 26 T.J. Yates, 27 Jimmy Clausen, 27 Mark Sanchez, 28 Colt McCoy, 28 Matt Flynn, 29 Brian Hoyer, 29 Any of those guys interest you?

With the defense historically bad, it is hard to see us drafting offense in the first. I hope we can get Landon Collins from Alabama. I almost think you exclusively have to look at S or LB in the first unless someone falls to us.
-
Yeah, I was just saying there were other draft options, and we did let Nick Roach walk too that year. I am really liking what I see out of Mariota. I don't think he would ever last to pick #9 or 10, but he looks legit. 101-12 TD-INT Ratio. He leads the NCAA in QBR, and was 2nd the last two years (behind Winston and Manziel). Oregon is 34-4 with him at QB, so he is a winner and pretty big at 6-4.
-
I agree on all except for the Bostic pick. Here are picks around Bostic, now we obviously couldn't get any of the players ahead of him, but look at the quality after, up to almost 30 picks later: 46 - Kiko Alonso, LB 47 - Gavin Escobar, TE 48 - LeVeon Bell, RB 50 - Bostic 51 - David Amerson, CB 52 - Jamie Collins, LB 58 - Montee Ball, RB 61 - Eddie Lacy, RB 63 - Travis Kelce, TE 65 - Larry Warford, G 66 - Sio Moore, LB 69 - Honey Badger, CB 71 - T. J. McDonald, S 74 - Terrance Williams, WR 75 - Terron Armstead, OT 76 - Keenan Allen, WR An example would be the 50th pick could've landed us #59 and #102 (NE), and we could picked any player after Ball, and had an extra pick 15 before Greene in the 4th. Obviously hindsight is 50/50, but there were options. We went back to back LB, so we could've easily went with Warford after Long.
-
I hope he gets better soon. He was one of the few players with some passion. Get well soon Brandon! http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000043...or-bears-season

At 5-8, we are now in 9th for the draft.

This sums it up: Offense - too predictable and inconsistent, zero adjustments Defense - out of position on every play, zero adjustments ST - worst unit I have ever seen
