We are probably the last team that cares about physicals. "Oh just a small herniated disc, not a problem"
-
In the situation where the Bears were in, could they afford to do this? I don't think so. There were many other options at #14. Chances are, if other teams didn't even have him on their board, he probably could've been had later in the 1st. You don't waste a #14 pick on someone with a pre-existing injury.

At least our QBs didnt look like this after a preseason game:
-
The preseason is one of the most misleading periods in football. For the defense, they could've been trying new schemes or packages for the first time and guys were out of position. There can be endless reasons on why some units succeed and others do not in the preseason. I am sure some of the veterans don't want to get injured in meaningless games, so a missed tackle here or there is not that big of a deal as long as they are ready to go in Week 1. There is very little correlation between the preseason and regular season records. I once read an article that showed that 2 preseason wins, on average, produced the best regular season records. NE is 0-3 and the Colts are 1-2. Cleveland is also winless, so take the records for what they are worth.

lol, i don't know why but that last part made me laugh.

Orton and Davis looked pretty good. Had 2 TD's and should've had 3 if Davis doesn't drop one. O-Line did better than expected. Defense didn't look too hot. Grossman looked brutal. I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut. I doubt it will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.
-
Unless Orton has a good season, or Hanie comes in and is solid, you have to draft QB with the 1st pick.
-
This will be Orton's first true shot with experience. Every other time he was thrown in there (first as a rookie) and for a couple of games last year. He seemed much improved last year compared to 2005. Hopefully he can take another step forward knowing he is going to at least get a fair shot for several games like Grossman did last year - while working with the first team all the time.

The best part:
-
That depends on who you ask. I have heard everything from politics to weather.
-
Clady. Also, most were suggesting to trade down and pick up some picks. Even if you lose some value, you have less of a chance at something like this happening with multiple picks.
-
I can play if you still need someone. I PMed and emailed you just in case.

What a complete waste of a draft pick, ugh. If they knew of a pre-existing injury with a lineman, why even chance it with the 14th pick?
-
If they were smart, they would create a tailgate area, and make a killing off refreshments and souvenirs. It probably comes down to parking and fans with tickets not having a place to park. Either way it sucks. Seems like they are killing a football tradition.
-
This whole thing is a marketing ploy from EA for Madden. In the end, Favre will say the only way you will see him play is in Madden 09.
-
Pix, If you consider touches, instead of just carries, he would have 285 touches, which is pretty good for a rookie RB. Also, his YPC would actually reduce the amount of rushes he had. If he was only averaging 3.4 like Bustson did last year, then he would have more carries.

I say HOU or DAL.

I'm not one into conspiracy theories, but I believe Benson's actions speak louder than his words. I actually think it is linked to his surgery. He has probably been told that he will not be the same back when he returns to his 80% max speed. So for him, he is basically giving up, and his poor choices reflect someone who just doesn't care anymore. The smiling mugshot speaks volumes as well. You can add these: The hard hits he took in training camp from the defense Him calling out the o-line for not blocking Goodell's new policies

Benson Crying at Draft cause he hated Bears picking him?!
adam replied to butkusrules's topic in Bearstalk
You can't blame Angelo IF he didn't have these issues prior to drafting him. This would almost remind me of the Eli Manning or Elway stories where the player tells the team not to draft him, and they still do. Either way, hindsight is always 20-20. I am just relieved that the Benson era has ended in Chicago. -
You are basically dead one LT2, from AP: What does this comment by Rotoworld mean: Does that mean the Bears save more money if he is claimed?
-
From all accounts, Tank was a good teammate, whereas Benson was not. He completely alienated himself from the team with his actions and comments.

Damn, then why draft him in the first place? Trade down or choose best available. -
His story again seems somewhat odd. He admitted that he indeed had some drinks (2-3) at dinner with his girlfriend, yet he was pulled over at 2am under the suspicion of alcohol. Either he ate really late, or he is lying. There is no way 2-3 drinks at 8 or 9pm would affect him enough 5 hours later that the cops would suspect alcohol. The smile in the mugshot is classic. As some of the others have said, it is not necessarily the action itself. It is the fact that he has had two serious judgment calls that can have serious impacts on his life. Football is all about decision making, and Benson is showing that he lacks that ability.
