For a player though, all it takes is one hit and his career can be over. If Hester is offered a deal and passes on it, he is risking a lot more than he would be gaining by waiting for more money. There are more bad things that can happen than good.
What if he flops as a WR and his return skills decline because teams scheme against him better? His value would drop. If he gets injured, his value will drop.
So for him, it seems like now would be the best time to cash in. Also, if he does a 4 or 5 year deal and becomes an elite receiver, at least he will have a little peace of mind.
