The only problem with Briggs is the money. I would say the only way the Bears sign him to the money he wants is if Urlacher's back is worse than expected. The Bears have other needs than at LB. Losing Briggs would suck, but would you rather spend the money on Briggs or Harris?

Only 3 teams have a worse or equal record than the Bears: @Carolina (6-9) @Atlanta (3-12) @St. Louis (3-12) That is a rough schedule. Are they trying to make New Orleans our new rival? Hopefully we play them in December along with JAX or TB.

Today's win lost us about 2 slots. A win next week might move us down about 5.
-
If that is the case. One of a few things occurred. One, he was told that the Bears are not re-signing him (Outpriced himself with Pro Bowl selection). Two, his agent advised him not to risk injury this late in the season. Three, he really was hurt and was held out as a precaution. I think the key will be next week. If he doesn't play again, he will have played his last snap in a Bears uniform.

With today's win, the Bears cannot draft higher than the 9th pick. Now the scary part is there are a ton of teams at 7-8. That means if the Bears beat NO next week, there is a chance they could plummet in the draft. Looking at Strength of Schedule which is the 2nd factor in draft position, the Bears could slide all the way to 17. Now realistically, some of the 7-8 teams will win, so the Bears will probably do no worse than 14 with a win next week. With a loss, the Bears will be guaranteed something in the range of 9-12. Kind of bittersweet, because you want your team to win, but also want a nice draft pick. Here are the current records and draft positions: 1. MIA (1-14) 2. STL (3-12) 3. NYJ (3-12) 4. ATL (3-12) 5. KC (4-11) 6. OAK (4-11) 7. BAL (4-11) 8. SF (5-10, SoS #31) ----------------------------- 9. CIN (6-9, SoS #27) at MIA 10. CAR (6-9, SoS #22) at TB 11. CHI (6-9, SoS #2) vs NO 12. DEN (6-8, SoS #11) 13. ARZ (7-8, SoS #30) 14. NO (7-8, SoS #24) 15. HOU (7-8, SoS #17) 16. BUF (7-8, SoS #9)* 17. DET (7-8, SoS #7) 18. PHI (7-8, SoS #1)*

Weather was the 12th man for the Bears. It affected Green Bay much more than the Bears. GB had 4 fumbles, lost none, and 2 Interceptions thrown, even though it could've been 4 or 5. Orton wasn't great, but didn't make any game changing mistakes (see Grossman). Peterson ran for over 100, and did well under the conditions. GB had one long run (66 yards) for their only score. Fairly even game at half. The Bears blocked 2 punts, one returned for a TD. Urlacher also had an INT TD return late in the game for another. By then the game was out of reach anyway.

Not for how much he wants. If Williams does that again next week, Briggs will be in another uniform next year.

After seeing today's games, it is evident that they should wait until the season is completely finished before voting. If you think about it, there is no reason to do it with 2+ games remaining with the Pro Bowl being played AFTER the Super Bowl. Urlacher would almost be a guarantee after his last two games: 8 tackles, 1 Fumble Recovery, 2 Sacks, 2 Interceptions, 2 Passes Defended, and a Touchdown. He is now the only player in the league with 4 or more Sacks and Interceptions.

Nice win. If we are going to win this late in the season, at least it was against GB.

From FoxSports: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7597496 YES!!!!! Step #1 - Fire Ron Turner - CHECK!

Chris Harris leads the league in tackles and forced fumbles
adam replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
I certainly drank the Arch Kool-Aid before the season. I thought that if he was brought back to the Cover 2 with Lovie, that he would excel. Boy was I wrong. The Harris deal was probably a little premature, but with Payne, it was hard not to go with the younger guy. -
Hopefully some of the bench players will get another look/first look. Hass anyone?
-
I would go with McFadden, but yeah, that would never happen. Briggs will go to the highest bidder.
-
If it does happen, I hope it does not affect his return game.

Has anyone ever tried a 5 man defensive front?
adam replied to WheresMyronBaker's topic in Bearstalk
I have seen it before, but I cannot recall which team did it. They only did it on obvious run plays. The biggest issue would be with matchups, and it would seem to leave some huge holes over the middle. Most teams just blitz a LB to give the same effect. -
http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?STORY_ID=4215 Possibly leverage against Berrian?

1. I agree. The money vs production could be used elsewhere. The only way the Bears keep Briggs is if Urlacher's back is worse than expected - or he signs a cap friendly deal. 2. I agree. Olsen needs to see majority of the action, Dez has been solid, but the money could be used elsewhere. 3. 50/50 on this one. Brown is more consistent than Anderson, and the way the DL was decimated this year, quality depth is hard to come by. 4. Agree, save money, and bring in some younger bodies. 4b. Davis' situation would hinge on what happens with Berrian and Moose. 5. Without a viable replacement, this would be a bad idea - but if there is a legitimate replacement, then go for it. 6. At WR, the Bears would need to bring someone in via FA if Berrian and Moose are gone. 7. Getting Turner would be huge. Should be a top 3 priority. 8. For the O-Line, we need quality, not quantity. I would draft only ones that would contribute (first few rounds), then pick up others via FA. 9. I would look at 2 via FA, as long as the contracts worked, otherwise, one at a minimum QB - I would look at every option, keep what we got, draft, FA, or trade - and go with the best solution for this team Also, we need a new Offensive Coordinator.
-
How about Aaron Brooks? The guy passed for 3,500 yds 4 seasons straight. Hasn't played in 2007. Would come cheap, worth a shot?
-
I went OLine, but it will probably be Best Available (which was not a choice).
-
Yep. All the changes/moves they made in the offseason backfired. Some of the biggest moves that backfired were the Smith and Angelo extensions. That started the downward spiral. Add the Rivera departure, then Jones' departure, then add the injuries and you have one helluva bad season. The only saving grace is that the Bears are in the NFC, and with a few impact FA acquisitions, and some solid draft picks, they can be back in the mix next year.
-
That was the Detroit game. Tillman, Vasher, Brown, and Archuleta were all injured.
-
WR would have been a more logical position to select, but like I said in another post, he was probably the "best available". I guess it was a good thing that we did not draft a WR, because it would've been Mike Williams.
-
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...4&cset=true Somewhat accurate, but I don't agree with "a good team that got lucky in a bad NFC last season".
-
FB is double covered in the flat, Safety over the top, LB underneath. The PLAY didn't work that good.
-
Hass definitely needs to play. Great hands and runs decent routes. Why not?
