  1. Did anyone hear the stat that the majority of teams with a "superstar" receiver never make the playoffs? There were only 2 teams with a top 10 receiver in the playoffs this year. And apparently its a trend that has been coming up more often than not. I vote no go on 85

Ok, who is the Superstar and who is not?

Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallsworth, Plaxico Burress, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Chris Chambers, Terrell Owens, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Hines Ward, Bobby Engram

While they may not all qualify for Superstar status by being in the top ten this year, this is not a pedestrian group of wide recievers.

  2. If you want a superstar WR, you have to take the good with the bad.

Although, I cannot recall hearing CJ complaining much the last two years, and the Bengals have had some dreadful problems with the team in the past 2 seasons.

Lets also keep in mind that Chad Johnson isnt available unless the Bengals say he is available, no matter how much he complains

  3. Since this works so well at Soxtalk, i figured i would start a thread here for the same purpose. If you feel that something is discussion-worthy, but dont feel like starting a new thread, post it here. Maybe a Mod can sticky this at the top of the page.

The reason i started the thread is because I heard Moose on the Score yesterday during an update, and he didnt sound like he thought he was coming back to the Bears. The one quote that jumped out at me was when he said:

"If the Bears want to sign someone younger and go in a different direction, Im sure I can get another job somewhere else" (not verbatim)

Good riddance, the guy thinks way too highly of himself and how he fits in this team.

  4. He does 8 different mock draft with each team getting a different player in each mock, and if that team picks one of those 8 players, he considers it as a "victory." But, he only does it like this so he can say he got so many picks right.

He must be doing something right, he gets paid pretty good to be a D-bag ;)

I understand what you are saying, many people say similar things about Lunardi during the weeks leading up to March Madness with his bracketology, but these guys cant be wrong too often to be in the positions that they are in right now. Every mock draft is a crapshoot full of opinions, it just depends on whose opinion you deem to be trustworthy

  5. YES!! Usually it is at 12 or 1, but this is great news! My 30 year old softball league starts April 10, and the schedule just came out, and my game April 26 starts at 11 a.m., so I'll be home for the draft! Sweet!! :headbang

Where do you play? My team plays out in Melas Park in Arlington Heights, and our league starts around the same time

  6. beleive me, people in Boston are sick of it too...how do you think we feel when the Red Sox and Yankees play about 19 or 20 games a year against each other. I am a red sox fan and i am sick of it as well because i think it is just way too over done.

See? You agree, it is over-one. Sure, I was overdramatic, but I still know that I would have been better off listening to everyone drone on about Favre over "New York vs Boston part 300". We know you guys are rivals, the history isnt lost because it isnt mentioned every minute.

It doesnt matter, I think either Green Bay or New York would both get waxed in the superbowl anyways.

And I also cannot stand to see Eli's dumb look. I know he looks like that, but he just looks like he would sound like Billy Bob Thornton in "Slingblade" if he opened his mouth.

  7. dude, you need therapy

Why is that? The New York/Boston media circus is old and tired, and I am sick of hearing about it. Every major media company(specifically ESPN) is ridiculous whenever these two cities meet in any sporting event.

I will just be glad when the season is over for good

  8. I dont know, I think I would rather spend the next 2 weeks hearing about Favre's resurgence rather than hearing

OMGZ!!!!!!1111!!!! ITS NEW YORK VERSUS BOSTON AGAIN!!!!111!!!! THISN IS SO GREAT, LETS RUN ALL OF THE YANKEE/BOSOX PLAYOFF GAMES THAT EVER PLAYED IN SUCCESSION, THEN LISTEN TO WHAT JONATHAN PAPELBON HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS HISTORIC MATCHUP!!!!

  9. Draft Mendenhall (He'll be moving up I guarantee it by the time workouts come around)

    Draft some offensive tackle

Draft one of the Hawaii receivers

    Draft Colt Brennan

add a few more OL and we've got ourselves a good draft.

LOL, no name for a wide reciever, just "one of the hawaii recievers".

  10. I wouldnt mind seeing Norm Chow replace Pep Hamilton as the QB coach. He is pretty good at developing pocket QBs, I think he was a little out of his element with Vince Youngs abilities and strengths (running more than throwing).

  11. Maybe they'll trade the pick to us. We'll give them our 1st, our 2nd, and Alex Brown/Mark Anderson, and we'll get the 4th pick, and there we'll take either Long, or McFadden. :pray :drink

I would be furious with Angelo if he traded that much to move up 10 spots in the draft.

Stop drinking moonshine while posting please

  12. Atlanta is one of the few teams that is in a position where they should absolutely go BPA, but RB is the only position where they have anything that resembles talent at besides tight end. Also, there isnt gonna be much out there FA wise for QBs and there is for RBs. So if they really needed an RB it would be easier to get one in free agency than a qb.

I would be shocked to see any one of the qbs they had this year as the starter on opening day.

I wouldnt be really shocked to see them give Leftwich a one year shot while the QB that they draft learns the system or takes the job from Leftwich.

  13. The price also depends on how bad Cincinatti wants to get rid of Johnson. Look at how much it took Philadelphia to get Terrell Owens, who was undoubtedly the best wide reciever in the NFL at the time, from San Francisco and Baltimore:

    http://www2.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/players/Terrell_Owens/

Mar 16, 2004: In a three-way deal: San Francisco 49ers traded Terrell Owens to the Philadelphia Eagles for Brandon Whiting, Philadelphia Eagles traded a 5th round selection in 2004 to the Baltimore Ravens.

Mar 4, 2004: San Francisco 49ers traded Terrell Owens to the Baltimore Ravens for a second-round pick in 2004 (No. 51 overall). (trade protested)

Is there a doubt in your mind that Terrell Owens would be worth more than Brandon Whiting and a 5th round pick, either in 2004 or now? This was one hell of a steal by Philadelphia who were happy to play along with Terrell Owens "silly antics" to get himself untraded from the Baltimore Ravens(how ironic that those same silly antics almost destroyed the Eagles lockerroom).

If Chad Johnson starts pitching fits and going on the same sort of media blitz that Terrell Owens did (when he assured everyone that he was going to philly), Ocho Cinco may be had for considerably less than you might think.

  14. Dude, are you drunk?

One. The point made, and go back and re-read, was "creating". How much creating did Jim Brown do? He freaking ran people over. I am not saying that is all he did, but the point of AZ's post was a RB that creates. You know. No hole in the OL so, using cutting ability, shifting, spinning, etc., they create a hole where none previously was seen.

Are you going to try and say that was Jim Brown?

Two. You comment that AZ loses all credibility because he doesn't list Brown as a top 3 back (though that is not what he was actually doing) is a joke as well.

I think Payton, Sanders and Sayers were all better than Jim Brown. All three RBs did more w/ less, and against better competition. Until the end of his career, Payton was running behind shit OLs. I am not sure Sanders or Sayers ever really had a good OL. Jim Brown has a very good OL. Further, I would argue the defenses Payton and Sayers faced were better.

All arguments aside, who the best RBs are/were is 100% opinion. If someone puts Benson ahead of Brown, I can understand you talking about a loss of credibility, but to act like it is so cut and dry in putting Sayers ahead of Brown is laughable. Frankly, you lose credi when you so easily dismiss the opinions of others.

Final point. I live in Dallas, and many here would say you lose credibility for not having Emmitt Smith, who leads all RBs in total yards, on your list.

Its amazing that Sayers only had 7 years in the NFL, and 2 of those years he only played in 2 games.

  15. I always thought we were premature in releasing Columbo... boy, would he look good as our RT for now and many more years.

How is that possible? When the Bears released him, there were many that felt he would never play again due to the nerve damage in his knee and lower leg. His knee injury in St louis was horrific, Im surprised he is able to walk, much less play offensive line.

One front-office member said several times during the last few seasons that if the Bears had 53 players with Marc Colombo's determination, they never would lose.

That's how hard he worked, but Colombo's battle back from a gruesome left knee injury suffered as a rookie in 2002 ended Tuesday -- at least with the Bears. They placed him on waivers and signed veteran offensive lineman John St. Clair to take his spot.

Colombo, the first first-round pick made by general manager Jerry Angelo, was a promising prospect as a rookie with a nasty demeanor and a love for the game. But he dislocated his knee in his fifth start, and nerve damage made his recovery long, painful and ultimately unsuccessful in the eyes of the club.

The Bears predicted that he would be back for training camp in 2003, but he missed the entire season. He remained on the physically unable to perform list until Week 10 last year. When he got back on the field, he was not the same player as the injury robbed him of strength and flexibility. At 6-8, Colombo needed to bend to get leverage. Orders came from the front office to play him at the end of the season, and he started the final two games but did not perform well.

Colombo was relegated to No. 2 at right tackle during camp this summer, and with the Bears keeping only eight linemen on the roster, they needed a more versatile player. St. Clair, who blocked for Bears running back Thomas Jones at Virginia, can play all five positions, though he is viewed mostly as a tackle and said he is most comfortable there. He started 16 games at right tackle for the Miami Dolphins last season but was waived Sept. 7.

  16. If Arthur Blank goes this route again, and it blows up in his face again(which is very likely), I will no longer have any pity for him and the Michael Vick repurcussions he is dealing with.

He is just throwing his money at these college coaches who are just grinning and waiting for other college jobs to open up while they cash their checks

  17. Yeah, because it's Crowton's fault that the offensive players couldn't hold onto the ball, and the QBs couldnt' stop throwing it to the other team.

Cut the number of turnovers and there is almost a guarantee that there would have been substantially more scoring with all that yardage. Afterall, the field length never increases.

Let's just say that we cut 20 turnovers from the numbers...less than half that year (32 fumbles & 22 INTs). And let's just say that only 15 of those drives were in scoring position...which is also modest considering the yardage totals (all the "good" drives weren't 99 yarders). Then let's say that one 3 of those 15 were TDs, a VERY low extraploation. Last but not least, let's say that of the remaining 12, only 8 were converted as FGs. That's 45 more points. That moves the Bears into the middle of the NFL as far as scoring.

I realize it's extrapolation, but it's not all that unreasonable.

Its called dreaming about something that didnt happen, not extrapolation.

The offense sucked. The record reflected that, so did the rankings compiled. Crowton sucked as an OC, and he sucked as a HC in college when he left.

  18. 1. The defense he wore down was the Bears' defense. And, his offenses didn't suck, but they weren't the best in the league either. If I recall correctly, the Bears had a top-5 passing offense while he was in Chicago. Also, the team was top 10 in yardage. I remember that time vaguely, but what I do remember was the Bears getting a lot of yards, and not getting the points to go along with the yards. Mostly I remember that being the result of turnovers, as our quarterbacks just handed the ball over to the other team via interceptions and fumbles. Given another few years, I think the TDs would have caught up to the yardage.

Oh yes, now that you say that it makes perfect sense. If it hadnt been for the turnovers, fumbles, and lack of scoring, Gary Crowtons offense would have been great because they got a lot of yardage.
