  1. Yeah, you dont just drop Lovie on his head for his D Coordinator after he has made the Bears consistently better every year he has been coach. This is a wave the Bears need to keep riding
  2. Im not saying we dont have a shot, and that Jerry Angelo cannot evaluate talent, because that is factually wrong. Jerry Angelo has consistently put great talent on the field through shrewd(and always second guessed) drafting and good free agent pickups. Frankly, I believe that we havent even scratched the surface yet with Grossman and that he is going to get better every year. And he is the better option over Griese at this point, if not because of talent and familiarity, then at least because he has been the startert for all 16 games and you dont switch your starter out in game one of the playoffs. You can scoff all you want, but this was Grossmans first complete year as a starter and he has performed just like every other first year starter, up and down. Does Romo look like a god anymore? Nope, but you arent gonna see Drew Bledsoe on the field on Sunday against the Seahawks because he has come back to earth. Once Grossman figures out how to remain consistent, he is gonna be a gem. Everyone thinks the window is closed after this year because of the defense. What if another window is opening because of the offense? Just a thought.
  3. So you are saying we should basically tell the opposing defenses in the playoffs that we are going to run, the ball, and that is it? How ridiculous, this is the reason everyone was crying for Rex at this time last year. That would make the Bears completely one dimensional and opposing teams would stack the box and tee off on any one of our HBs and QBs. And when did Kyle Orton become someone who "won't turn the ball over (usually)"? I must have been dreaming when he threw 5 interceptions against the Bengals last year and forced the Bears to dumb down the playbook. He became a statue in the pocket after that game, and getting to 100 yards was a struggle. Not to mention that his defense bailed him out the entire year. Do you think the defense is going to bail out Orton this year? At this point there is no way in hell that the Bears defense is going to bail out any one of our quarterbacks, and we have to rely on whichever quarterback is going to be able to put up some points. Good Rex/Bad Rex, or Griese? Orton is not an option for the playoffs.
  4. Oh dont get me wrong, both QBs sucked today. But turf like that is going to see some blown acls and blown out knees if they dont do something. That was pathetic looking turf today.
  5. This is absolutely painful to watch. The field looks like crap, Grossmans playing like crap, Brett Favre looks like Brett Favre minus ten years, ahman green looks like ahman green minus three years. The bears need to pull a New England and put some field turf in that place before the playoffs start.
  6. Joe Buck just said that St Louis beating Minnesota knocked the Packers out, so its already over for the Pack.
  7. Get rolling? They have won 1 game in a row. There is no "get rolling" for them. They either win or go home. There is only one team on a roll and that is the Eagles. The Giants and Cowboys dont scare me at all. Neither one of them have displayed any sort of consistency. The Giants are 3-6 since facing the Bears, and are missing starters all over the place. The shine is off of Romo's crown, and the Cowboys defense is less than impressive. There is only one team right now that I dont want to see waltz into Soldier field, and that is the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only do they have our number, but their defense is playing lights out right now. That is a scary team.
  8. On a side note, the "New" NFL pisses me off something fierce. Thursday, Saturday night games and a flex schedule for Sundays does nothing but piss off the fans. Everytime I watch an NFL network game it comes off as a preseason game, the fans seem like they arent really into the game(and Bryant Gumbel is the worst PBP man ever. period). And now that we all know that you need only 5 days notice to switch a game to a night game, well that is just awful. My countdown to kickoff tonite is going to be spent cursing the new NFL for making me wait and making Saturday and Thursday night games a regular thing.
  9. Very often? Try not at all. The Bears havent placed a franchise tag on anyone in the Angelo years, I cannot recall the last player that was franchised.
  10. quick question, name the last person the Bears have placed a franchise tag on. You are on the clock You are pointing out the problem that is going to force the Bears to draft more than just an impact SS. Injury. And it has been 2 games in a row against absolutely dreadful offenses, and the Bears have given up some bigtime yards and points. You said the secondary was stacked, yet you are showing me it is clearly not. When healthy, sure. but how many NFL teams last the entire year without injury showing its ugly head? You have to draft well to prevent a large dropoff in quality from starter to backup. The Bears are going to get another CB in the draft, you can take that to the bank. Vashers stock may have dropped a bit this year, but next year is his contract year and you can bet he is going to be at the top of his game, and the Bears arent going to franchise a cornerback so that they dont have to come up with two contracts. The Bears are going to protect themselves in the draft.
  11. Really? So past our starting backs, (P-nut, Vasher, Harris, Manning, Manning Jr at nickel) what makes our secondary so stacked? You must have missed those back to back huge slants last weekend when D manning and R Manning Jr were following Ike Hilliard and Joey Galloway all the way to the end zone. Would you feel comfortable with Chris Harris or Todd Johnson starting with the other backing up, as we have right now? Does D Manning look like he is unstoppable out there? Is Dante Wesley the answer? The problem here is because of Mike Browns constant injury problems, our secondary is no longer stacked. When he was playing, we had the luxury of Chris Harris, Ricky Manning Jr, and Todd Johnson backing up the entire secondary. Now that Mike Brown is out(as well as Vasher recently), all of our backups are starting now and the defense is getting lit up like a Christmas tree. Plus, Vasher wants to get paid after this year, and he has had a hard time staying healthy himself this year, so who knows if the Bears are going to make a play on Vasher for the money he is going to want. Make no mistake about it, the entire secondary needs a boost in the draft.
  12. Do you punish the 52 other guys on the roster because of the indiscretions of one? Thats where the catch is. If you release him, you make quite a bold statement about how you run your team and quite possibly watch your Superbowl chances go down the drain. If you let him stay and play, you are sending a message that no one really has to listen, but you still have a decent shot at a superbowl. Tough choice. I wonder how Titans fans are feeling about Albert Haynesworth right about now?
  13. I completely agree with this. The only difference being that Tank had his problems during the season, and RMJ had his problems drag into the season.
  14. This is purely speculative at best, and most likely untrue. Mike Brown has become an expensive disabled list liability, and his inability to stay healthy for the past 3 years and his current contract is going to lead to him being released. In the best scenario he would come back to the bears at a reduced price, but the Bears need someone who can give them some time at the safety position without being injured, and Mike Brown has had nothing but problems with his calf and achilles tendon. I like Mike Brown, but the guy just cannot stay on the field, and that is why the NFL has non-gauranteed contracts.
  15. I definitely think there is a correlation between grossmans success and the use of the TE. Everything that angered everyone around here was the fact that Rex was going downfield too much, not checking down, and throwing off of his back foot(bad mechanics). Two of the three things I mentioned basically took the TE out of the offense, and the third(bad mechanics) made it difficult to hit the TE. I can remember more than a few times that Rex floated passes over Clarks head to be intercepted.
  16. All I am trying to say in this whole matter is that the Bears are not about the high quality character guys they claim to be after. The better football player will be on the field over the better person 9 times out of 10, with any team.
  17. you recall incorrectly http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...eisurebooks-hed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Manning_Jr. Sooooooooo, does multiple assault charges qualify as constant run-ins with the law? Which is worse, having a gun without a license and getting arrested for it, or beating someone up and getting arrested for it? Getting arrested for the stuff these guys have done is not a "stupid mistake". Brian Urlacher getting caught up in this baby-mamma drama bullshit is a "stupid mistake".
  18. Those "stupid mistakes" got them arrested just the same as Tank Johnson. Prior to 4 days ago, Tank was on par with every one of those guys on the "stupid mistakes" meter. The point remains the same, the NFL is populated with thugs who think they are above the law, the Bears are no different than any other team.
  19. This story just took a really strange turn. Tank Johnson's "bodyguard" was killed on Friday night after being shot in the back in a fight outside of the Ice bar in Chicago.
  20. I think this is way overblown. Angelo may preach that stance, but he sure has not followed it for the time he has been here. Christian Peter, Dusty Dvorcek, Ricky Manning Jr, John Gilmore, Tank Johnson, Paul Edinger, these are all players that Angelo has signed, resigned, or drafted and all of them have had problems with the law. Right now Angelo has to show that he doesnt approve of this sort of conduct, and I am sure he doesnt, but the fact of the matter is that football is a violent, dangerous game played by violent, dangerous people. Not all of them are bad guys, but some of them are straight up thugs(just ask the Bengals). I think they are going to give Johnson the chance to redeem himself, hope that Dvorcek can make the impact they expected of him, and probably look for a DT later in the draft. Personally I think the bears are going to be looking DB and OL before anything, the Bears need a solid safety to replace Mike Brown, and there are a few guys on the OL who are getting up there in age.
  21. Wow, thems fightin' words right there. Jackson should do a little homework before coming up with quotes like this. one of the reasons the Rams, as well as the Raiders, moved from Los Angeles was because of the tremendous apathy towards the teams from the fans. Los Angeles fans rarely filled the stands, they were never there for both teams. LA fans care a little bit about basketball, a little more about baseball, but they never gave a rats ass about football.
  22. However, If I am not mistaken this is the first time the Bears have ever applied the Franchise tag, apparently they despise going down that route. My prediction is that Angelo is going to try very hard to get him signed before he franchises him. Hopefully something gets done to keep him a bear.
  23. Man, Rex must have had a nice heart to heart with Steve Spurrier last week..... /sarcasm Good game for Rex to get back on track and get the wheels moving a little bit. I liked that he was flushed from the pocket and took off for a 22 yard gain. The pass to Berrian on the go route was perfect, he couldnt have placed it any better to allow Berrian to make a play, the corner bit and Grossman threw a great ball over his shoulder. The defense looked a bit shaky at times, but I think we have to remember that the Rams are about a year or two removed from being one of the best offenses in the league, Holt Bruce and Bulger are still quite a threat. And there isnt much more that you can say about Hester besides "Holy F***in Sh**!?!?!? Did you see that?!!?!?"
  24. Yes, you are right. Byron Leftwich and his benching and ever-injured left ankle are a much better option. And Leftwich played at Marshall, and there is a movie about that, and he didnt go to Florida under Steve Spurrier, so that means he must be a better quarterback. honestly, your thought process in blame is just off the charts hilarious.
