I don't know why it's so hard to just accept the fact that he was not that good. He was the 14th pick in the NFL Draft that couldn't grab hold of his position. Whether it was the short arms or the non-physical style of play, whatever it was, it didn't mesh well with Tice. I don't believe he was ever cut out to be a left tackle. He let guys get into his pads far too often and got pushed around because he was neither strong enough, nor did he have the mentality to fight back. I think he would serve better in a Zone Blocking scheme where there is not as much of a physical demand.

It really does feel like the Bears haven't played in months.. I hate watching football on Sunday and them not being on..
-
I know at some point, we won't have a pick 6 or a defensive touchdown in a game, but I'd hold off on that for at least a week. If last year's game was any indication, I would not be surprised to see this one play out the same way. Detroit is bad. The Bears are pretty good. It all comes down to quarterback play. Whichever guy protects the football the best, there team is likely going to be the winner. I suspect that will be Cutler. We're at home, and there's plenty of good mojo going around. I like our chances come Monday.

I could care less about record in the context of determining the better team. That stuff is for power rankings, which is useless as is. We all know the New England Patriots are a better football team than the NY Jets, yet both teams are 3-3. The Atlanta Falcons are 6-0, and every year they go into the post-season and get destroyed by a team with a worse record. I'm not sold on them until I see it in the playoffs. Yes, I think the Bears can get better offensively, but defensively, the stuff they are doing right now isn't sustainable. They're not going to score 2 defensive touchdowns every game. A lot of it involves good fortune.

The Bears probably were just going to keep him around in case of injuries, but I imagine CW asked to be traded/released so he could find another team that would give him an opportunity. I don't have a problem with letting go of bad football players.

There's a difference to me between the team that's playing the best, and the best team. Of course, the way things are right now I think the Bears are playing the best. How could you not love the way the defense has been playing? The Best team, in my opinion, is the team with the greatest potential for success if things are clicking on all cylinders, and have proven it before on big stages. Rodger's is scary good when he's on (See Houston), and Eli Manning is about as clutch as they come. I'm not ready to put Cutler on that pedestal yet until he proves that he can win these big games. When Cutler is on fire, he's still not as good as Rodger's and his offense when they're clicking. I give the Giants some respect because they are the defending champs. They had a little something for the 49'ers on Sunday, whom many analysts had as their "Best team in the NFL."

For my money, I still think the Giants, Packers, and Patriots are better than the Bears. We'll see how we fare against the elite teams coming up in a couple of weeks, but right now, the Giants are the defending champs and have the best front 4 in all of football, the Packers have shown us time and time again that they're better than we are, and the Patriots are the Patriots..

Not surprised. The writing was on the wall the day they signed Scott to take his place as backup. Now only one 1st round draft pick remains from the Angelo era, and that is Carimi.
-
The same can be said for offensive lineman. There are numerous examples of late round draft picks that wind up as starters or even pro bowl players. And quite honestly, I dont think there is going to be any waiting around for urlacher. He just isnt right. I think this could be it for him.
-
Obviously I'm not the only one who thinks this. I know you won't be satisfied until every position on the offensive line is going to the Pro-Bowl, but you're going to be waiting an awfully long time because that's never going to happen. You have to be judicious with your draft picks. There is nothing wrong with the center or the RG on this team. If you want a new LG, fine, get one later in the draft or in free agency. The Bears main concerns going into next year's draft are at left tackle, and finding guys on defense to replace the ones that are playing at those impact positions right now (For the Cover 2).

Lance isn't perfect, but he's solid. Very versatile lineman. Tice loves him because of his physicality. It's why Chilo Rachel is starting over Chris Spencer. He likes tough, physical lineman, and Lance is one of them.
-
Well not on the interior it doesn't. The interior is fine. I don't know what you are talking about. If you replace Jamarcus Webb with someone with talent, you suddenly no longer have offensive line issues. I would be furious if a 1st round pick was wasted on a center or guard.
-
I don't think it's that big of an issue. You don't generally spend first round picks on centers anyways. I can live with a LG that's marginally serviceable, as long as he's not blowing things up... Replacing Jamarcus Webb is really my only major concern on the o-line right now. Maybe later Carimi might become a concern if he turns out to be bad. I'm not advocating against drafting a center or a guard, just not with the first couple of picks.

The no huddle is music to my ears. I've been calling for it since the season started. It's a good neutralizer to a defense that likes to disguise their coverages. The question I have is whether or not our line has the stamina to hold up in a much more up-tempo style, and if Gabe Carimi's knee will be able to stand it.
-
The Packers don't use the running game so it shouldn't even matter.
-
It's from Terry Boers so take it with a grain of salt. It's impossible to know whether this has any validity to it or not. The Bears would never publicly admit it. I don't know why they would do this now, given he's under contract for next year. It would be a bad move, IMO if it were to happen now. Why wouldn't you just wait to see what he does the next two seasons before you commit more money to him?
-
I'm kinda thinking that MLB is going to be one of the top priorities next year in the draft, believe it or not. Have you guys seen how bad Urlacher has been? The guy can't change directions and has been terrible in pursuit, because of that knee. I think this may be the last year for him as a Bear. If not, the team still needs to find that next heir apparent sooner than later. Just overall youth on the defense is much needed. It's great that the D is playing as well as they are now, but pretty soon here we're going to have to replace Lance Briggs, and Tillman, Peppers, and Urlacher. I don't know about you, but I don't see anybody on the roster right now, that's ready to replace any of those guys, and that's a big deal, because if not, this defense will SUCK. LT, if not #1, it's 1B. I don't think the Bears have as much of an "Offensive Line" problem as they have a "Left tackle" problem. Of course, Carimi is still essentially a rookie, but the guys on the interior are not an issue. It's going to be hard to find quality out there though, because the league is being depleted of great young OL talent. Offensive line has become a league wide epidemic. It seems like every other week we're playing a team with troubles up front. So if the Bears are going after a LT in the 1st next year, they better be damn sure it's the right one.

I thought I read somewhere Mike Simms Walker has asked the Bears for a try-out. If it were me, and Alshon is indeed coming back sometime next month, why not just call up Joe Anderson to play special teams and allow Weems to get more reps? They have Bennett and Rodriguez coming back after the bye. The hope is that you get him back before you play the Texans and 49'ers, which would put it closer to 4 weeks. I don't think we can beat those teams without him. Those defenses are extremely physical, and Jeffery excels in press coverage where he can out-physical the DB's.. Earl and Devin won't be able to get off that, if they have to play on the outside without him; not to mention, it makes it easier to focus in more on double teaming Brandon Marshall.
-
Not good.. I feared this would be the case, after seeing him in a cast before the end of yesterday's game. I don't like it that it's the hand of a receiver, who's known for using them well. I hope this doesn't affect his ability to catch the football when/if he comes back.
-
True. But unlike last week, I felt like we should have been dominating the scoreboard early on against a lifeless Jaguars team that's at the bottom of the league in both offense and defense.. Dallas' defense is really good, so I wasn't expecting an offensive explosion. They executed, and finished drives better in the 2nd half. Cutler started off with a pick, and I thought "Oh boy.. here comes the trap game." Luckily, the defense gave us another spark to open the game up more for the offense.

That is a brutal final stretch of games, where 3 of those teams (MIN, ARZ, SEA) are all much tougher teams now, than they looked like going into the season. I don't really worry about Arizona as much because their quarterback situation sucks, but I do worry a little about Minnesota. Christian Ponder is a much better quarterback than people are giving him credit for. He's accurate, he can run, he can throw on the run, he can throw it deep, he's smart.. AT Minnesota is always a tough game, and as long as they're still in the hunt by then, we should have our hands full. Luckily, we face Seattle on our home field, which is a huge difference. Russell Wilson sucks. I don't fear him at all. I think we can make him throw the ball our way, often. The games against Houston and San Francisco are going to be the two toughest games we'll have all year. I think it all depends on how much momentum we have going into the game. If Cutler has a couple stinkers, like he's accustomed to having, going into these games, then I fear for the worst.. If he comes in on fire, after a couple of nice wins against Detroit, Tennessee, and Carolina, it could be a different game. Cutler is very much a streaky quarterback.
-
I hope to hell Alshon's injury wasn't bad, but the way his hand was wrapped it looks like it could be somewhat serious.. He needs to be on the field this year to get rid of the growing pains he'll have as a rookie. The more reps he gets, the better he will be.
-
Finally, the offense wakes up a little bit. 3 straight drives resulting in 2 TD's and a FG.
-
And... Gabe Carimi single handily ends the drive with two awful false start penalties back to back. Horrible..
-
Aside from a few nice runs, this offense has been atrocious all day. Cutler... bad.
