He needed to come out and say he was bad during the press conference. Instead he sorta shoved the blame towards everybody else and didn't seem to want to be accountable for his own pathetic play. That's not what you want to see out of your supposed leader. The last thing this team needs is for everybody to start turning on Cutler.
-
The Rams have two really good corners though in Jenkins and Finnegan. They are going to give Cutler fits as well. Their defense is much improved from last year. Keep in mind the Packers were the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL. They set records last year for their ineptitude. So it's not like you can call them a good defense. They are just very opportunistic.

Still, Jay has been in the league long enough to be able to put guys in optimum position to make plays. He knows how to read defenses pre-snap, he has the power to adjust on the fly. Teams like the Falcons have now gone to a predominantly up-tempo/no-huddle offense, and so far, they've looked unstoppable since the beginning of the pre-season. It's about the change of pace and keeping the defense on their heels instead of allowing them to dictate exactly what they want to be able to do. Now that Cutler has the ability to audible, a no huddle offense should have already been installed yesterday.

I'm glad you brought up Manning because it leads me right into what's missing from this offense, and that being a no huddle. What allows Peyton to do what he does is that no huddle, being able to use the extra seconds on the play clock to survey the defense and bait them into showing blitzes with hard counts. Did anyone watch the game against the Steelers last week? There was a point in that game where the Broncos were in the redzone, looking to take control of the game with a late touchdown, and Manning used the no huddle and the hard count again and again to completely neutralize Troy Palimalu's attempt at a blitz. With that extra time on the play clock, Manning was able to get the play he wanted and take advantage of the matchups that were there to exploit. The result of the drive ended in a touchdown. That's just an example of how the no huddle can be used. It's also a way to not only keep defensive players on the field, but also keep them in a base defense. It completely dumbs down everything they can run because they don't have the time to call a play. It wears them out along the way. I have no idea why this has not been installed yet for this offense. Last time I can remember seeing it was in the Ron Turner days. It's a MUST, especially with this line. It keeps everything simple, and simple is good.

You're missing the point. When other top tier quarterbacks have bad games, they don't often look the way Jay Cutler looked last night. When Jay is bad, he's just gone. 40% completion rate? 5.8 QBR? Come on.
-
Here's the problem with Jay Cutler.. When he gets sacked early and often, he mentally checks out of the game. When Matt Stafford threw 3 interceptions in the 1st half against the Rams last week did he mope around and check out of the game? No. He went on to throw for 355 yards and had a game winning touchdown drive to win the game. Aaron Rodgers at one point during this game had been sacked 5 times in the first half while Cutler was sacked 3 times. The difference? Rodgers remained confident. He didn't get happy feet and he didn't start throwing off his back foot on every pass, he didn't panic. All that confidence coming into the game was shot to hell after the 2nd offensive series when he couldn't complete a pass down field.

The thread title is my answer here. It's way too early to be making any kind of declarations. It's week 2 of the season. Week 2 of last year it was a similar story. I can promise you this offense will not be held to 168 yards of total offense in every game the rest of the way. We will get things turned around and be one of the top scoring offenses in the NFL this year.
-
I hate the fact that he's right, because I think Woodson is a POS, but sooner or later, the interceptions need to stop. There is no defending Jay Cutler for his play against the Packers. It's been atrocious. I don't know why Woodson got pissed after he deliberately fell trying to take out Cutler's knee. If I were Cutler I would have lifted him off the damn floor and body slammed him to the floor. What a freakin D-Bag.

Did you see a single quick slant all game from our receivers? We've got a big physical receiver that almost always wins at the LOS and we can't even run one slant to get him involved in the game? That play is there 90% of the time because the DB is not going to be able to get across his body in time to really phase Marshall. I don't know what Mike Tice was smoking last night, but that game plan needs to be crumpled up and thrown in the garbage immediately and never used again.

Give it more than 2 games before you start writing things off. This happens every year to the Bears from recent seasons, and every year it's the same song. We start of looking good early with a nice win, we hit a bump in the road after that, which is usually right after the next "worst offensive line performance you've ever seen", then the offensive coordinator goes through an intervention about protection and play calling, things turn around, we tally off 3,4,5 wins in a row and look like world beaters again. The Bears are way too talented not to make the playoffs this year. It might even take another poor showing against Dallas before we really start to hit our stride, but this team is going to put up points on offense. Did you know the Bears were 6th in all of football last year, before Cutler went down, in ppg? You can get away with having a less than stellar offensive line. It's the implosions that you can't put up with. The Bears had this same implosion last year in week 2 against New Orleans, and then we came out the next game and held Jared Allen to zero sacks and destroyed the Vikings, en route to winning 5 in a row. We all know the line needs to improve. It's like beating a dead horse. I'd love to have that stud left tackle as much as the next guy. But lets not act like the offense is going to be held to 168 yards of total offense every game from here on out. Give it time.

Weren't both Carimi and Williams injury risks coming out of college? Carimi had ailing knee issues, and Williams was going through a bad back that ultimately needed surgery before he even played a game as a rookie. The thing is, we're going to need a major overhaul of the defense in the near future, if not this year, next, when you talk about Urlacher and his concerns, Tillman and his age, Briggs etc... MLB is going to be a position of need coming up real quick here. It's all about which holes do you want to fix first because each have their pro's and cons.

He will be. Missing the playoffs 6 times out of the 9 years Lovie has been HC is unacceptable. I don't think you could find very many reasons to keep him around if we miss the playoffs yet again this year, especially given the huge expectations. I'd even go as far as saying a playoff win is necessary just for him to be considered to remain head coach. You can't go 10-6 and lose in the wild card round of the playoffs this year. It's an NFC Championship appearance or no Lovie Smith for me.
-
When he gets pressured early in games he goes into, "I'm going to get hit on every throw" mode, and then starts the back foot crap, the errant throws, the interceptions/turnovers, and the complete loss of composure. The best game I've ever seen him play under adversity was a game we lost on MNF last year against the Lions. He looked like a different quarterback than the one we saw today. The line can't be as bad as they were tonight, obviously, but Rodgers was sacked 5 times in this game and remained composed all the way through. You can't tell if Rodgers has been sacked 11 times, or once, throughout the course of a game. That's the difference between Cutler and the elite quarterbacks, among other things (like accuracy). It just seems that he gets too easily raddled, and from there, the bad just piles on. Somebody has to stop the bleeding. Our offense is better than this.
-
The only thing I took away from this game, and I think it's the most important; and that being Cutler's complete ineptitude against this Packer's team. I will hold this performance against him until the day we win a Super Bowl or beat GB, whichever happens first. "Elite" will never, and should never be used in reference to Cutler until he proves it. And how do you prove it? How about beating your arch rival more than 1 out of the last 8 games? How about you convince me that you can at least get through a GB game without looking like you're completely incapable of setting your feet and protecting the football? Until this happens, I can't seriously get up for any game the rest of the year without these bad thoughts creeping into my mind. A good start in rebuilding begins in two weeks against a good Dallas Cowboys team.
-
The offensive line was awful but Cutler played a big part in probably 3 or 4 of the 7 sacks by holding onto it. Give Mike Tice some blame too. How many slants or curl routes did we see tonight? I could have sworn we dusted off an Old Mike Martz playbook from last year. Awful, awful play calling to go along with poor quarterback, offensive line play. That was the very definition of an abomination.
-
My confidence has been totally shot with Cutler. The loss doesn't hurt as much as the poor performance. It's become more than a trend with him and GB. If we can't beat them in the regular season, how in the hell do we beat them in the playoffs, and how would we ever win a Super Bowl without him imploding again?
-
The Bears aren't ready for the limelight.
-
I said it in preseason but I would cut Kellen Davis yesterday. He has done absolutely nothing to warrant a starting position on this team. He can't block and he cant run routes.
-
Marshall has GOT to catch that. 3 points doesn't really do anything. Still two score game.. Could have made it one.
-
This is just a complete disaster.
-
Idiotic penalty by Carimi. Killed a drive that should have ended with at least a FG. If GB scores on this drive it could start unraveling.
-
Horrendous play calling to start this game. Way too many deep play actions being called. You can't do that when Clay Matthews is blitzing on every play. How about a quick pass to Marshall? A Slant? Something! This is brutal offensive football.
-
The play action on first play needs to stop. This is ridiculous. Same freakin thing happened last week.
-
Had one good spin move, then went offsides and took away Peppers sack, fumble. Benched for a large portion of the game from then on.

If Jennings is out for GB, that's a huge missing piece from that offense. I'm a bit on the fence with my prediction, come Thursday, but if he's out, I'm leaning towards picking the Bears. That GB offense is going to put up points against our defense, and I fear Urlacher is going to be exploited all night by Rodgers for not having the same mobility to cover the middle of the field. I give the Bears a slight edge if Jennings is out. I think we'll be able to put up just enough points in a shootout to win the game. I'll go Bears 37-32. Both Cutler and Rodgers have a field day and throw for over 300 yards. The difference in the game will be a lot like what SF did last week. The Bears run game will get some major yardage on the Packer defense and Bush will score multiple TD's again.
