Denver @ Chicago, 8/9/11, Preseason Game Thread #1
Bears4Ever_34 replied to balta1701-A's topic in Bearstalk
Wow what the hell? No Jay Cutler tonight? Why?? -
I hope to see a lot of Alshon Jeffery tonight. Also Jason Cambell, I'm interested in seeing how he does with the 2nd unit. He could be a #1 for a lot of teams right now so I expect him to peform well in this preseason. It will be funny to see Haine go up against the Bears defense in the 2nd half!
-
Agreed, but it's easy to make predictions on paper. As we witnessed last year, that doesn't always translate to on the field wins. Most assumed the Bears would be able to beat the Chiefs or the Broncos last year, even with Haine, and.. Yeah.. Didn't turn out so well. There are still some question marks with this team though that concern me a little, particularly Urlacher's injury. How quickly will the Bears offense really start to gel? Are we going to be able to get a pass rush this year? I've got to see some flashes of it before I start to believe it.

Terrell Owens, at age 38, is still in better shape than probably 3/4 of the guys in this league right now. He is a physical freak of an athlete, as is Moss, but in a different way.
-
Can't say anything about our team until I see a couple pre-season games and a few in the regular season. Pre-season stuff is usually filled with a ton of vanilla sets both offensively and defensively. Nobody wants to show their hand early and there is little to no game planning to make it feel like a real game. The Monday Nighter against the Giants should be a vague indication of our team when the starters play their 3 quarters, but you still won't know the real Chicago Bears until at least week 4 or 5 of the regular season.
-
T.O or Moss were two guys I would have been okay with if we lost out on the top FA WR's this year like the Marques Colston's the Vincent Jackson's etc.. Little did I know Brandon Marshall would become available and once we got him to come over there was no need to bring in Moss or T.O. After Marshall we needed a young receiver to groom as the #2 guy opposite of Brandon. We got that guy (we think) in Alshon Jeffery.
-
No real surprises. Thought maybe Chris Williams would have been at LG from last year, but seeing as how he's been practicing at Left and Right tackles this offseason I guess it shouldn't be a shock to see Spencer ahead of him now.
-
They may decide to keep Blanchard as their developmental QB if he out performs McCown in the preseason. Otherwise you might be able to hide him on the practice squad.
-
Tells me they probably don't want Sanzenbacher considering he's not a special teams type of player.
-
Weems signed a 3 year contract, he'll make the team for sure because of his special teams prowess. That leaves you with Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Hester, Weems, Knox (likely out for the season). One more guy out of the list of remaining guys will make the team. I'd say its whoever has the better preaseason, but Sanzenbacher has the edge because he was on the team last year. It's also possible that they only keep 5 receivers and make room to keep Blanchard as the 3rd QB and sign a few of the other guys to the practice squad.

Here's more to the story.. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/20...mas-hangs-em-up Talk about coming out of left field.. Looks like Sanzenbacher or perhaps that Summers kid might make the team after all.

I wouldn't touch Calvin Johnson this season. The madden curse is very real!
-
We might lead the league in YAC (Yards after Catch) this season with Brandon, Alshon, and Matt making plays with the ball in their hands.
-
My favorite part about this offense is going to be in the redzone. How in the world are teams going to stop the goal line fades to Alshon AND Marshall, all the while still trying to contain Michael Bush pounding it inside the numbers? I think Brandon is bigger, stronger, faster than Alshon but the rookie may have the edge when it comes to hands. I think Jeffery is going to be one of Cutler's security blankets at times this season where he has just a small window to get it through. Earl is about as good as they come but Jeffery has the makings to be an All Pro one day is he commits to getting better and better each and every season.

I'm pumped for the start of the season. I wish next week would get here already. I'm even anxious to watch the hall of fame game tomorrow just to see some football.

Urlacher- espn- Now at 6 days without practice!!
Bears4Ever_34 replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
I think Shea may end up replacing Brian when his time here is finished. Otherwise if they keep him at DE, taking a MLB in next years draft is going to become more of a focal point if Urlacher starts to decline at a faster pace with that knee injury. -
I could really see Shea going back to LB in a year or two.
-
He wouldn't be a huge surprise. I guess I was thinking more in terms of a breakout season for him as a Bear's quarterback. The media is skeptical to include Cutler in with the "Elite" tag to his name, but I think a great year for him could put him in that category.
-
Offense: Cutler- for obvious reasons. I think he puts up over 3500 yards, probably closer to 4,000 and lets say 25 touchdowns or somewhere near that. Evan Rodriguez- I'm sticking to what I said coming into the year, I think this Rodriguez is going to surprise a lot of people with his speed at the TE position. He's not going to be rookie of the year or anything but I think he could end up being a 3rd down converter in this offense and someone who opens up the field with his versatility. Defense: DJ Moore- I think this is the year DJ becomes one of the guys on defense. He's done it in spurts here and there, but I think he can become a regular contributor next season and cause havoc for opposing offenses.
-
I wonder.. My guess is it's another tier 2 roleplayer that is needed for depth on the oline or dline. No clue who it would be.
-
I believe it was a 7th rounder. Quite a few Tampa fans are pissed at this trade, calling him a steal if he has his head on straight and stays healthy. He had some weird procedure on his hamstring that's caused him some problems in the past, but he was a former 2nd round pick. Low risk, high reward signing.
-
This season has a chance to be special. I am pumped just for the first preseason game. I can't wait!
-
I was just going to say, unless Matt breaks a lot of big gainers this season, I expect more of the same because Michael Bush is likely to be the guy that gets the bulk of the carries on the goal line like Marion Barber from last season. It's not a knock against Forte, it's just that we have a bruiser behind him that's fit to crush through linebackers like a bulldozer when he gets a head of steam.

What are the top three moves made this off season?
Bears4Ever_34 replied to Wesson44's topic in Bearstalk
- Getting rid of Angelo - Trading for Brandon Marshall - Getting rid of Mike Martz
