The most important game of the season might come against the Detroit Lions in the final game.
-
I had to get this in here, because it's just too good to pass up. Look what they caught Rodgers wearing at the game last night! Is that a black thong? Looks like it.
-
Updated playoff picture now that all the teams in the race have played their games.
-
Yeah, both Clay and Raji right? For some reason, Raji sucks now, and hardly even played as a rookie. My feeling is if you get the right guys at the crucial positions of the defense, everything else falls into place. I think McClellin can be a really good pass rushing 3-4 OLB. Finding a disruptive DL is the next thing you'd need to figure out if a 3-4 is the type of defense you're shooting for.
-
They weren't that good before they made the switch to the 3-4. When Capers took over in 2009, their defense went from 21st to 2nd overall in one season. Then the following year they won the Superbowl. The Houston Texans, under Wade Phillips, went from being the worst pass defense in NFL history to 2nd overall in one season. It's not a magic pill, but the notion of some people that such a transition would take years to develop is nonsense. Get a good coach, find yourself a pass rusher and make it work.

If Nick Roach is our answer then we better bring Urlacher back. I've always thought that whichever rookie we take in the 1st or 2nd round is hopefully a MLB capable of starting. Urlacher isn't even close to what he used to be, but he's still better than Nick Roach. My guess is that Lovie will be back, and they'll re-sign Urlacher to play for at least one more season. My hope is that Lovie is fired, and we get a coach that won't sit on his hands when teams adjust. I would prefer a hybrid style that uses elements of the 4-3 and 3-4 together. I believe you can make anything work with good coaching. Players can adjust to play different schemes, it's about coaching and teaching. Remember when the Packers made their switch to a 3-4, everybody was saying that they didn't have the right personnel to make it work. It can work if you know what the hell you're doing, and Dom Capers did.

Bruce Arians name is going to be popping up. He's been tremendous in Indianapolis. Wouldn't mind giving him a shot if Lovie gets the boot. Mike Holmgren would be another guy to keep an eye on. The only thing I worry about with him is the fact that he's already retired once, he's not a long term answer. I just like his offensive philosophy.

Jeffery has exceptionally good hands. I wonder how much the broken hand is affecting him now. I don't remember him having too many drops before that injury.
-
Sadly, I agree. The sad part being just getting in the postseason means he keeps his job. I hope Emery is looking at the bigger picture here rather than just saying, "Oh look, we're in the playoffs, lets sign him to a 3 year extension!" Anything less than a playoff victory should equal a firing, in my opinion.

It took them 3 years to realize Frank Omiyale wasn't any good, so we shouldn't really be surprised.

I don't have the slightest idea what the Bears think they have in Kellen Davis. He should have been cut months ago when they found out he couldn't block or stay on his feet to catch a pass. Hester is and always has been a horrible receiver. I've said that from the beginning, and every year we get stupid articles from stupid people that think he's going to all of a sudden be this great receiver because of his ability to run routes in training camp where he's not going to get hit.
-
Just wait until the offseason when all the players, coaches, and beat writers start hyping him up again on what a wonderful job he does at running routes.
-
And.. That's the season. Next weeks loss to the Packers should put an end to our playoff hopes.
-
Another concussion for Cutler? Looked like it.
-
I don't think so. John Fox has always ran a 4-3 as a base. With Denver, they switched back to a 4-3 once he stepped in, but you'll see them go to multiple fronts every now and then.
-
Horrid throw by Cutler. Yipee another INT for a TD! freak this team.
-
Somehow it's only 14-7. We got completely outworked in the 1st half. Luckily the Vikings don't have any receivers or it would have been much worse.
-
STOP THROWING TO KELLEN DAVIS
-
Well that could be game already. The Lovie Smith era could be coming to a close.
-
I'd be surprised if Marinelli stayed after Lovie is gone. Those two are good friends. I don't see Marinelli wanting to work for anybody else in Chicago if it isn't Lovie. Tice on the other hand, I think you have to give him another year, though I certainly could see why someone would want him fired. I think more than anything, we learned that Mike Martz is a better OC than Tice is. With virtually the same offensive line as last year, he was still somehow able to get more out of the offense, in terms of productivity than Mike Tice, who has given way more help to line than Martz ever did while he was here, and is still worse. I always point out that the offense under Martz was pretty darn successful last year before Cutler went down, offensive line troubles and all, but he still wasn't the right guy for Cutler.

I don't think he's going anywhere, but I've already made my mind up that I personally don't want him here. I think he's worn out his welcome, he's been here forever, and had a good run while his defense was in the prime of their careers. Well, now they're not, and because of bad drafting, nobody is good enough to step in and fill the shoes of some of these guys. Lovie is a bad talent evaluator, and a poor game manager. Case in point, starting Kelvin Hayden over DJ Moore. We all know why Moore hasn't played (The comments earlier in the year about Cutler, and then again opening his mouth a week later) but most people could just tell you after watching one football game that DJ Moore is a much better player than Kelvin Hayden. I don't like him, and never have, though you have to admit, he does teach his guys how to play his style of defense. They all go after the football, they all fly to the ball. It's great when you can get pressure from the front four, but is a disaster of a defense when you can't. The Bears haven't been doing that lately, and because of how bad Urlacher has gotten, they have been forced into playing more single high safety. It just seems to me that age is showing more now, than ever before. Guys don't look like they're as fast reacting as they used to be. They're always a step slow now. I say you cut ties with Lovie unless he get squeak out a playoff win, and get somebody else to run the ship. That's my opinion, but I'm pretty sure he's not going anywhere. He'll get to stay in classic Lovie fashion. He'll get the team into the playoffs and that'll be enough. Then they'll sign him to an extension that they'll regret after a year.

Jeffery back in as the starter. I want two things to come out of this game today. 1- A Bears win 2- No injury to Alshon
-
What do you guys think about McClellin as a 4-3 SLB? Not as your tradition coverage SLB, I'm talking about as a pass rusher ala Von Miller? I personally feel like he's an OLB in a 3-4 but Lovie isn't running the Cover 2 hardly at all anymore. Instead, he's gone to more single high safety looks, my guess is because they don't believe Urlacher can cover the deep middle anymore, which makes sense. I'm just thinking out loud here, but we've already seen McClellin standing up occasionally when he's in there, could he work out as a pass rushing LB in an altered 4-3 scheme? Maybe this would never happen for as long as Lovie Smith is the head coach, but if we had a coaching change to another 4-3 I think this could be a possibility. Thoughts?
-
If they really wanted to do something smart, they'd disallow helmets. You think you'd see someone launching their heads into someone coming over the middle without a helmet? I think not. Helmets have always been used more as weapons anyways, and if you take away this important weapon, you'd probably find players taking more caution on some of the hits they deliver.
-
If they're going to bring in another receiver, it should be Joe Anderson. He looked good in pre-season and I thought he should have been on the roster instead of Sanzenbacher. I'd say give him an opportunity. Jeffery should be back though, I'm assuming, if he was working out before the game last week, he'll be ready to play on Sunday. Now he needs to just stay on the field once he's there.
