  1. The Bears have the edge in Receiver talent now but the Lions and Packers have been running a system they are familiar with for multiple seasons. That goes a long way. I want to see this team for a couple of regular season games before I anoint them ahead of those two teams in the division.
  2. I read that he and his fiance are pissed at Earl Bennett for going on Boers and Bernstein the other day and letting it be known that the two are having a baby boy. I'm sure he's been in a bad mood. haha. EDIT: Oops I just read the article.. Didn't know that news was already in it.
  3. I didn't know this forum used to be under a different name. I honestly can't even remember how I got here. I think I was just searching "Bears forums" one day randomly several years ago and found it by accident. I saw that it was a brand new site so I decided to join up.
  4. Emery won't admit it but that very well could be in the back of his head. At the very least you get a guy capable of playing different roles if one of our guys go down with injuries.
  5. I heard on the radio that this is like the 8th person on the Chargers team Seau was on that has passed away already. What a sad story..
  6. Oops, I meant to say we should be top 3-5 in ppg as an offense, not in totality. Although it's still a possibility. We were 6th in the league scoring wise with Cutler, I see no reason why we shouldn't be better next year given all the additions. ------------------------------------------------ It just looks weird, is all I'm saying. Especially on a smaller guy. There are certain numbers that just don't look right on people. #99 is sort of rare in itself. Usually if someone wears that number it's a humongous person, like a defensive tackle.
  7. They were 6th in the league last year in PPG with Cutler. I see no reason why we can't become a top 5, top 3 offense next season with all the weapons we are now getting. Tough to say until you figure out what kind of offense Mike Tice will run. There will be no more 7 step drops, so Web is safe in that regard, as is the rest of the offensive line. They should improve just off of that alone. They were about middle of the pack last year in terms of allowing sacks (with Cutler) and again, I'm basing everything off of when Cutler was healthy because that's all that matters. I think if the line can stay within that 30 sack barrier this season, they should be fine. The additions to Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery is going to help immensely in the passing game. Cutler has already established a chemistry with Marshall so you can expect another 1000 yard season from him, and anything Jeffery is able to give us is an added bonus. As a rookie, I expect to see the usual struggles every rookie WR goes through in year 1. However, he's going to have a perfect opportunity to have those flaws masqueraded by the guys around him, being focal points. The early prognosis I have for him is around 55-65 catches, 600-800 yards 4-5 touchdowns. The offense as a group should definitely improve after all they have added through free agency and the draft. Now having Michael Bush is going to give this unit a legit #2 RB capable of being a starter. Evan Rodriguez is an interesting piece. I think he'll see spot time as a hybrid TE/FB and be sort of a light version of Aaron Hernandez. I imagine the Bears will use a lot of Ace package (2 WR, 2 TE) sets, where they'll create mismatches for this kid to exploit. His 4.5 speed will be beneficial when you put him up against LB's and safeties. Could this also be the year Kellen Davis breaks out? He's had a lot of built in excuses over the years, being a young player behind Greg Olsen and Dez Clark, and then playing in a Mike Martz offense that completely ignores pass catching TE's all together. I can't wait till the first preseason game when we finally get to see what this team is going to be capable of, offensively. They'll be pretty much the same on defense, only adding McClellin. Which btw, I hate the fact that he's #99. That's not a number for a DE, and it'll make him look slow. haha. Come on son! You gotta pick a better number than that... Lets get this season underway! Bourbonnais is just around the corner.
  8. Something different. Curious as to how some here came up with their usernames. Some are obvious (like mine) and others not so obvious. For me, the Bears4Ever came from a site I used to visit back in the day called "Bulls4Ever" which has since been transformed into RealGM. The 34 came from Walter Payton, whom I was named after (Payton is my first name). I debated using Sweetness34 but stuck with Bears4Ever. I've been a Bears and Bulls fan since I was about 8 or so, which was around the time I started sitting down and actually remembering games that I had watched with my dad. Unfortunately I grew up during the dog days of Bears football and Bulls basketball. Right around the time Jordan left and the Bulls began the worst 6 year stint in the history of American sports. The Bears weren't much better as I can recall. The Cade McNowns of the world and the Shane Matthews.. It was probably the most inopportune time to become interested in Chicago sports but somehow I kept watching, and things eventually turned around for both clubs. Anyone have a story of their own that they would like to share?
  9. I actually didn't mind this draft. I didn't like the 1st round pick but I'm over it and I'm rooting for McClellin to succeed. I actually feel bad for being as upset as I was when I heard his name. It's not fair to the kid. I just didn't like that particular pick at that particular time. I felt he was better served as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme and there were other DE's available that would have been better selections. But it is what it is. With that said, I loved the Alshon Jeffery selection for obvious reasons. He can catch, he can run after the catch, big body in the redzone etc.. He's going to be a weapon in this offense whenever teams decide to put bracket coverage on Brandon Marshall. He'll have every opportunity to succeed because he's going to get single coverage and he's coming in to be the #2, not the #1. Less pressure to be great early on. Give him 2 seasons and he'll be a pro bowl candidate. The 3rd round pick I didn't like, only for this reason. The guy has been injured 3 out of his 4 seasons he spent playing for Oregon St. We've been burned by this sorta stuff year after year, with injury prone college players, thinking that they somehow will not be injury prone at an even higher level. Other than that though, if this kid can stay healthy, he's a very talented prospect. Has ideal size for a safety and has the quickness and athleticism I think to be a decent player. Sound tackler from what I've seen. My favorite pick other than Alshon Jeffery might be this Evan Rodriguez. I know nothing about the guy, never saw him play but from the looks of it, we may have gotten a potential steal in the draft. Reminds me of an Aaron Hernandez type or maybe even a Marcel Reece, who can flex out in certain situations and be a dual threat as a FB and TE. Love this pick if he can stay out of trouble. I think this kid may end up being a starter and could become a weapon in the passing game in just his first season. And then I can't even comment on the other two picks because I wasn't watching the draft at the time and haven't even looked into who they are. Too busy being on suicide watch from witnessing Derrick Rose tear his ACL in a playoff game..
  10. Well then blame NFL.com because that's where it came from, not me.
  11. Aaron Hernandez-lite? 4.5 speed.. Not bad. I know nothing about this guy.
  12. Lol I missed the pick. We drafted a Fullback?
  13. Refer to Jason's post. If you still don't understand where I'm coming from then, you're just ignoring the obvious. Again, reading comprehension is a learned skill. Case in point: What I said just a few short posts ago.. Perhaps there is an extra seat for you in the classroom.
  14. I forgot about him. That may be comparable, but I think they are different players in terms of style. I don't feel like Osi is the high motor guy that McClellin seems to be. I brought up Jason Babin before. Similar height/weight, style of play, small school. Unfortunately, for McCellin's sake, I hope it doesn't take him 6 seasons to start producing like it did for Babin, who was the 27th pick in the draft back in 04. Close to where McCellin was projected to go.
  15. I worry about giving up a massive chunk of rushing yards on his side of the ball. Which will end up happening, if he is the 3 down player Emery claims him to be. Most guys his size that have their hand in the ground are one trick pony's. I'd feel more comfortable if he can get his weight up to 270 but he came in to the senior bowl having just gained 20 pounds from his senior season. I'm not sure he's ever played above 260 before so it's sort of an unknown as to how it will effect him on the field.
  16. Appreciate the thoughts. At least there's one person that understands. I was beginning to feel like I was living in an alternate reality for a moment where people lived under rocks and the simple concepts about human life never existed or couldn't be grasped.. The Twilight music started up and everything, I swear.
  17. As if it needed to be mentioned another time.. Most NFL scouts had McClellin scouted as an OLB. That's what he played at the Senior bowl. He wasn't strictly a DE at Boise either. He played multiple positions. Suggs is a 3-4 OLB. Dumb comparison. Andre Carter kept going back in forth between 3-4 LB and 4-3 end. Also was a better prospect than McClellin. Taken 7th overall, won award for nation's best defensive player in college. Dwight Freeney was a much better prospect coming out of college than Shea McClellin. Only a two year starter, he still managed to rack up a total of 34 sacks, 17.5 of which came during his senior year. Not to mention his 4.4 forty time and a 40 inch vertical jump. And finally, as previously stated, Jared Allen is 3 inches taller than Shea, which is a big difference. Quite honestly, there really aren't too many guys I can think of that you can really make a comparison. Maybe Jason Babin, is about the only one off the top of my head.
  18. The reason I dislike the Hardin pick so much is because of the injury history. How many times do the Bears have to get bit by this before they realize that drafting injury prone players in college usually results in being injury prone in the NFL? It's not like they are going to get any healthier playing professionally. The kid seems talented based on his measurables and he's built like a tank. I think this was a major reach for a guy that didn't even play his senior season and has been hurt 3 out of 4 years he's played in college.
  19. The difference now is he's coming in to a perfect situation. He's not going to be the #1 and he's not going to be double covered. He'll have ever opportunity to succeed right away in this league. I think within 2-3 full seasons, he should be a Pro bowl quality receiver. Both Marshall and Jefferey have that "100 catch" type of talent. Not saying both of them will grab 100 balls but Jeffery, at his best, I believe is that type of possession (move the chains) type of receiver that's going to be targeted quite often, especially in the redzone.
  20. The Bears should have the most dominant special teams of all time entering this season. There shouldn't be any excuses on that front.
  21. Jury is still out. He at least showed flashes but nevertheless, injury prone just like Major "Made of porcelain Wright". Massie was sitting right there and we passed. There were also some decent corners.. Ugh.
  22. If you take history into consideration, at least 8 games.
  23. I'm starting to feel like Jerry Angelo never left. Or maybe Lovie Smith is actually in charge after all. This pick and the 1st rounder has Lovie's finger prints all over it. I hate drafting "Special Teamers" in the 3rd round, much less a guy that's always hurt. This guy wasn't even invited to the combine and you use a 3rd round pick on him?
