  1. Jared Allen is 6'6, McClellin is 6'3. That's a HUGE difference. At least Allen is tall enough to be able to tip passes when he can't get to the QB. McClellin will not be able to do this as easy. He's got an awful lot of obstacles going against him to succeed. He's playing out of position, he's not tall, and he's not big. Motor only gets you so far. I worry about the talent side of it, which is why I hate the pick for a 4-3 defense. I'd love it if we had switched to a 3-4 and we used this pick to start bringing in guys that fit that system... I don't see how McClellin fits this system.
  2. Shea McClellin is NOT the eventual replacement to Urlacher when he retires. I do not want Shea McClellin dropping back in pass coverage every play, which brings him a step further from reaching the quarterback. He is a pass rusher first and a pass rusher second. He does not have the skill required to be a MLB. His best position would be whatever Clay Matthews plays for the Packers, OLB in a 3-4. That way, he can use the speed to his advantage by getting a head start on OL and doesn't have to get mauled against run plays where he's going to be asked to shed blocks. The only logical reasoning behind this pick as I've said is that Emery plans to change schemes after he fires Lovie next year and moves the kid to OLB. After a day's rest of trying to cool some steam, I still hate the pick. It may be unfair to the kid but I'm always going to think of Dan Bazuin or Nick Reed the first time I see him on the field, and until he proves me wrong, that's the way I'm going to think of him. Hopefully Game 1 of the season he winds up with 3 sacks and a forced fumble and I can forgive Emery.
  3. Hill should be the first receiver to go early in round 2, probably the first pick in the 2nd round. Randle has a chance to fall but maybe not. After those two, then you've got Alshon Jeffery, Brian Quick, Jaron Criner, Dwight Jones, Mohamed Sanu, and Ryan Broyles basically as your options in rounds 2 and 3.
  4. Dallas had the best draft by moving up to get Claiborne without giving up that much. Now they have two stud CB's in a Rob Ryan defensive system. Scary.
  5. I'm betting they go DT but I'd rather them go WR or OT. Jeff Allen is a guy that might be there, but If Rueben Randle is there, I'm taking him. I think Stephen Hill is going to be the 1st pick in the 2nd round, otherwise he'd certainly be at the top of my list. Rams screwed up the draft by not getting Blackmon or Floyd and had to settle for Brockers.
  6. Phill Emery said McClellin was #1 out of the 7 players they had targeted... Makes sense that they had interest in Irvin if they wanted McClellin. Both undersized players that are better off in 3-4 schemes. If we're going to use this kid, I'd like to see a little hybrid defense installed by the Bears next year. I know it would never happen with Lovie as the coach but why on earth would you not use McClellin as a stand up rush LB in certain situations? A little 3-4 mix up every once in a while would be something unique and intriguing to watch. Peppers would be more than capable of standing up too. Creates a lot of confusion for teams.
  7. I would love to see Randle fall to us.
  8. Was Matthews bench press reps recorded before or after steroids/HGH? I assume it's the former
  9. Jeff Allen from Illinois could be there in round 2. I'd still go WR but I could see them trying to bring in a comparable LT.
  10. Skip Bayless likes the pick for the Bears, haha. As long as McClellin starts and performs, I'll eat my words. I'm still mad they didn't go with a different DE with legit size.
  11. Bill Bellicheck is just smarter than everybody else. They knew what they needed to get and they went out and got it. Jones is a balanced DE with hybrid like ability and Hightower is a brick wall MLB that can disrupt plays in the back field. McClellin is going to get blown up against the run by the bigger OL. God I hate this pick so damn much.
  12. Meanwhile, the Patriots get both Chandler Jones and Donta Hightower..
  13. Look at what I said. He was a 5th round value UP UNTIL A WEEK AGO. Meaning, he rose up on draft boards. That's not always a good thing.
  14. He was exactly what I said. A 5th round pick up until about a week ago. I'm too freakin pissed to go and look for where it was said. I remember reading it.
  15. I think Jerry Angelo is still drafting for this team. I can't even come up with one reason as to why we drafted this kid. He was a 5th round pick up until about a week ago. The ONE guy I did not want the Bears to take...
  16. Only way this pick makes sense is if we fire Lovie after the year and switch to a 3/4 defense. I can't believe they picked this guy. :You have got to be kidding me!
  17. This is Dan Bazuin part II. Horrible horrible pick.
  18. There's a thread stickied that has the link.
  19. Try again. It's going to be Claiborne. They are suddenly a really really good defense with Brandon Carr and Claiborne. Wow. And wtf? They only got a 2nd round pick? What was St Louis thinking??
  20. Dang I was hoping there would be a live chat thing like last year.. Oh well. A lot of movement so far going on.
  21. Sounds good to me. Basically what I expected, or what I've been following since this thing began.
  22. There is no way the Bears take an inside LB in the 1st round of the draft when it's likely that a defensive lineman will be there for them at 19 who they like. SLB isn't that important in a Lovie Smith type scheme anyways. All they're asked to do is to launch themselves into the LOS and stuff run plays while the MLB and WLB get in for the tackle. Usually your Hightower isn't your prototypical size for a SAM either. Normally they are slightly bigger than safeties. Hightower is a big boy.
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Fletcher Cox the exact same player as Henry Melton? Don't they play the same position? I get that the kid is talented but seems like a waste of a pick if they can't be on the field at the same time almost every down. Michael Brockers seems like more of a fit because he could be the run stopper to Melton's pass rushing. No?
