He's a more complete DE than most everybody in the draft IMO. Plays the run and pass well. Has the frame to put on size too, which is a plus. Guys like Mercilus don't really have that luxury. This guys got a pretty good blood line as well. One of his brothers plays in the NFL and the other is "Bones" Jones, the UFC fighter. Just found that out yesterday, haha. I'm not really honed in on one particular DE because I really don't see one guy being drastically superior over the other one. I just hope it's not Shea McClellin, aka Dan Bazuin part II in a 4/3 system. That's what I fear.

Wasn't his surgery somewhat similar to Johnny Knox in terms of the fusion? Can't be a good sign for Knox's chances.

Burfict has failed a drug test.. lol

I agree with the positions that the mock has us taking but don't agree with the order or some of the players. He got the first round pick right. I'm not sure it's going to be Chandler Jones but DE seems to be priority number 1 on the Bears big board. WR looks to be the next place we look to in rounds 2 or 3 if we're going off of the workouts the Bears have made public. Alshon Jeffery, Rueben Randle, and Kendall Wright are all 2nd round prospects. Then you got Juron Criner, and Dwight Jones who might go in the 3rd if not late 2nd. After that, If you listened to Emery's press conference, the 3rd and 4th round guys are going to be players that will fill specific roles for the team. I'd look for a rotational DT or Safety to go here, or perhaps an OLB that'll mix it up with Geno Hayes on the strong side. The 5th, 6th and 7th round picks likely will be backup players that Emery will pick based on measurables and potential.
-
If we pick McClellin or any offensive lineman not named Kalil or Decastro in the first round I would not want to be in the same room as me.
-
My guess Floyd Mercilus Jones Coples Gilmore Ingram Brockers Interesting after listening to Emery's press conference today, his draft approach, in terms of how he values each player in the round that they are drafted in is, Rounds 1-2 = players that can start for your team right away; guys that will contribute immediately Rounds 3-4 = players that will fill specific roles for your team that will allow them to contribute maybe as a kick returner or some other role (3rd down pass rusher, Nickel corner, rotational DT, 3rd down RB,)etc.. Rounds 5-7 = players with the highest measurables that have a high ceiling. Backups. Guys that may need some work on their football skills but have the athletic ability to excel if given the adequate time to develop.

I'm all signed up, ready to take the crown!

I was just about to post this until I saw it on here. Good stuff.

I forget which show it was, maybe NFL 32, where Bill Polian was talking about Kalil. He wasn't all that impressed with him being considered to go in the top 5 because he said he isn't a prototypical left tackle. Needs to get stronger. He's not quite in the same league as the Jake Longs and Joe Thomas' but he's still a really good prospect. I don't think the Bears need to worry about trading up at this point though unless it's just a few spots. They need picks and players right now.
-
I would hate this pick. I prefer drafting a real DE. Someone with legit size. McClellin belongs in a 3-4 defense or a team that runs a hybrid system like Miami or New England.
-
If Coples is still on the board at 19, I would be shocked if the Bears don't take him. Mercilus will likely be the pick if he's not there. I like Quick. At 6'4, with his basketball background, he's a little inexperienced but he certainly has the talent to play at this level. There will be some good WR options in the 2nd round, including Rueben Randle and Alshon Jeffery among others.

You finished your response before I could finish adding on to mine but the point being, the benefit from already having a #1 and a strong #3 does make it easier to bring in a rookie and develop him. One of your examples is a guy that was drafted to help bring that franchise out of a rough situation (Crabtree) and was asked to come in and be their #1 right away. Jennings and Fitzgerald are actually good examples of my point. Jennings came in and got to learn from a great receiver in Donald Driver while Fitzgerald had Anquan Boldin. Jennings is a better example because he was a 2nd rounder. As I said, there is a learning curve for most every receiver. Calvin Johnson even had a rough first year playing in Detroit. But what I'm saying is, it's a completely different situation when you are drafting a (College #1) to play #2 on a team that, contrary to their record last year, is actually on the cusp of Superbowl contention. Now by bringing in Marshall, the rookies job becomes a lot easier and he has a lot less pressure to be great in his first season.
-
High expectations? How? All those guys are used to being their team's #1 receivers. Developing them as #2's in Chicago should be beneficial to them as players because they won't be getting the same attention as Brandon Marshall. Will they go out and give you 1000 yards in year 1? No. That's being facetious. Most young receivers have learning curves unless you're AJ Green or Julio Jones. But what better way to learn than to play with Bennett and Marshall? All the pressure is on those two veterans. The rookie just has to come in and play his game and in due time, will hopefully become a bigger piece to a championship caliber team.
-
He's more of a #3. He makes occasional appearances playing on the outside but he's generally been used as a guy that makes a ton of 3rd down plays as a slot receiver. We need an extra guy that can do real damage working on the outside opposite of Brandon Marshall. Hester is definitely not that guy.
-
Oh for the love of God. You can't be serious. Bennett and Hester are both slot receivers and Hester is ideally a situational player that comes in for a handful of plays a game. Knox is not playing. Who's our #2? If whoever we pick in the 2nd round can't beat out Devin Hester at WR I would seriously question the validity of the pick in the first place.

This thread makes me want to go listen to some Phil Collins.

In Wright's defense though he had been battling injuries and other various ailments from his season that caused him to miss the senior bowl. It is very possible and probable that alot of that carried over to his lack luster combine times. I could care less about the bench press. It doesn't really mean anything. Steve Smith couldn't even bench press 225 when he came out and he had a nice career. The body fat % to me is what I raise an eyebrow to. You can't gain weight unless your going all body builder and using that weight to go on a cut in a diet phase. Not sure that's his plan, which makes it a concern. Some team is going to be lucky to have him in the 2nd round because his play definitely warrants a 1st rounder.
-
All these guys gaining bad weight before the combine is not a good sign. I'd still take a chance on him in the 2nd or 3rd round though. He's that good of a play maker.
-
The bigger issue isn't with him testing positive, it's the fact that there was a complete disregard for being a professional and making sure he was clean at the time he took the tests. Everyone knows the type of testing that goes on at this event and he basically just gave the middle finger to the entire process by not giving a shit. Guys like that usually are out of the league within due time. If they don't care about it now, what makes you think they'll care once some team gives them a contract?

Favorites (No particular order) *Current NFL Uniforms* - Chicago Bears: Really like the changes they made to what they were before (Boring). Moving the numbers to the top gives the jersey a more visual/symmetrical flow to it, and the new Nike material is going to make everyone look faster on the field. I'm just not a fan of the socks. Get a solid color. - NY Giants Alternate (Red): Don't know why but it just works well. - Tennessee Titans: I've always been a fan of their uniforms. Baby blue and navy goes well together. Special mention (No particular order) Denver Broncos (prior to this year): Nike did them a disservice this year IMO. Although I've only seen the orange one, I didn't like how the pointed stripes are almost connected now. Looks weird. Houston Texans (prior to this year): The two toned collar ruined these. Arizona Cardinals alternate Black unis: Favorite Throwbacks - San Diego (Powder blues): - Philly Eagles (Greens): - Patriots white throwbacks, Bears 1940's Worst uniforms - Seattle Seahawks - Cleveland Browns - NY Jets - Cincinatti Bengals

This move only adds more credence to possibly sliding Chris Williams over to LT to compete with JWebb.

Nice depth move. Emery doing work!

Funny how Burfict's name came up. I was just reading Mike Florio's article about him the other day. So far he hasn't gotten a single team to show interest in him at all. This guy needs an attitude adjustment. Here's what his own coaches had to say about him. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...-cold-shoulder/ Wouldn't be surprised to see his name not called on draft night. Everything about him is all trouble. Nobody seems to like him and he doesn't seem to care about taking his career seriously.

We are clearly going for it this year. The Marshall move, the Bush signing, Jason Cambell wanting to come here to be a backup.. One thing that Emery has come in here and done immediately is build more depth on the team. Depth cannot be stressed enough in the NFL, more so than any other sport because the nature and frequency of injuries. All these smaller signings may not seem like much but you never know how important they will be until the guy before them goes down. Free agency is just a piece of the puzzle. Now Emery gets to flaunt his abilities as a drafter and I couldn't be more excited. This is what we brought him here to do. Btw, The Bears are visiting with Melvin Ingram today according to Vaughn McClure's twitter.

I'm more inclined to believe DE is going to be the pick but I have to defer to the football aficionados out there that know a hell of a lot more about scouting than I do, when they talk about Stephon Gilmore. The word on the street is that Gilmore could quite possibly go in the top 10, maybe even as high as #7 to Jacksonville. CB is one of our needs going in to the draft this year. He'll definitely be an option in the 1st if he's there, as will several others.
