Not sure why he didn't sign with Miami, given their head coach was Flynn's old QB coach and they will be running the same offense. Atleast I would think they are. It's a safer way for him to make more money in the future, but instead he will have to learn an entirely new system and may end up falling on his face without that quarterback friendly system they had down in GB. I happen to think Flynn is going to be pretty damn good. I was calling it at the end of last season after that Patriot game. Then he goes out and throws for like 500 some yards a 5 or 6 TD's against Detroit in the last game of the season.. All of his mannerisms are nearly identical to Rodgers. The way he moves, throws, throws on the run, improvises etc.. All similar to Rodgers. That means he got some terrific coaching and as I said, that came from the guy who is now running the show in Miami.

Yes but his strengths as an offensive lineman are that he is very skilled at run blocking. The knock on him has been that he struggles with leverage and his height sometimes can be used against him. His bad knee aren't really conducive to what you want out of your blind side protector. He certainly has the athleticism to play the position but you are going to get the most out of him by letting him run block as a RT and bring somebody else in that's more of a pass protector on the left side.

We didn't really have a place for him. What we needed is a left tackle. Right tackles are generally your best run blocking tackle and that's what Gabe is here for. Were going to have to find that LT in the draft somewhere in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft.

The latest form the Trib about the alleged victim
Bears4Ever_34 replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
Well there goes all her credibility. Sounds like she's just trying to use Marshall's past and reputation as a way to make some money. Hopefully now this nonsense can end and we can just get back to football. -
Did we decide not to talk with Laron Landry? Haven't heard anything on him.

Uhh, did we see what happened to us last season? There's a reason why we invested some of our money for Jason Cambell; to make sure the disaster that was last year never happens again if, god forbid, Jay Cutler ever went down again. This is probably the most comfortable I've ever been with our depth at the quarterback position. Also, nobody is trading a 3rd round draft pick for Jason Cambell, who's on a 1 year deal. Brandon Marshall was just traded for two 3rd rounders. You never get the type of picks you think you might from a player. Teams value their draft picks very highly. We are in a great situation right now at quarterback. There is no need to get cute with it and dangle our security blanket for what would be a very late round draft pick at best.
-
I also love the subtle swipes he took at Martz and Jerry. "I came in and told Phil that I needed an X" ---- He then went out and got one of the best X receivers in the game Asked about if Tice is going to change the protections from the offensive line----- "I hope so."
-
I would venture to say the offensive line is going to be addressed through the draft. No idea what we will do now with our 1st round pick. We could go WR, could go OL, or DE, or even CB. I have a feeling we will go after a pass rusher like Mercillus and then target a receiver in the 2nd round.

Why is no one talking about Eddie royal??
Bears4Ever_34 replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
I believed he either signed or is closing in on a deal with the Dallas Cowboys. -
For anyone that listened to it, Wow. That was one of the best press conferences I've ever heard. It's amazing how open and honest BM was with his illness and he sounded incredibly sincere and is really making an effort to change his life around. His and Cutler's relationship also goes way beyond football. I felt like I learned alot from listening to the both of them.

What other holes are we going to fill in free agency? Everyone that was actually good has either signed already or is about to sign with another team. We missed out on some good guards that were available when Carl Nicks and Benn Grubbs signed contracts. There aren't any big money left tackles in the free agent pool this year, and unless Kamerion Wimbley gets released, the free agent pass rushing pool is lack luster at best. We're sitting on roughly $16 million of cap space. Royal has since signed a 3 year 12 million dollar contract. 6 mil guaranteed. A harmless knockoff to our cap space. All that's important is that we get our #2 receiver in the draft. We went into the offseason needing a #1 and a #2. We got the 1. I'd be thrilled with Stephen Hill, who could come in and be the speed receiver at 6'4. And we will have time to let him develop with Marshall and Bennett likely to take most of the pressure away from everyone else. -
Hopefully he is not our starting DE by the beginning of the season.

Ironically, that's the same number that's been up on the Bears board now from the guy nobody believed. Still hoping for some line help.

This is going to be a weird one given the circumstances of all that's gone on.

If that means Devin Hester gets to go back to being a full time special teams player, then that is fantastic. Could not care less if he got another snap as a WR. Royal and a high draft pick are clear upgrades over him. -

Really? How much money do you think Eddie Royal is going to get? The Bears came into this offseason needing a minimum of 2 WR's. So far they've only got one and I'm not counting Weems as a receiver because he's not any good. He's strictly a special teamer. You can't count on Knox being there for the season and to be a productive player even if he does. Completely healthy he was only an average WR with some serious flaws. Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall have true chemistry with Cutler. If you were able to add him to go along with a young draft pick in one of the 1st 2 rounds of the draft, you have done everything you needed to do to solidify your greatest weakness. Not to mention, we are going to need a security blanket in case Marshall ends up being suspended for 4-8 games or so. -

I would have rather had Eddie Royal over Weems. We need to add a 1st or 2nd round receiver in the draft to get some young talent behind Marshall. Would have loved to have went into the season with Marshall, Hill/Wright, Bennett, and Royal as our top 4 WR's. -
I'd say he gets one year to prove something. If he ends up doing nothing again, he'll be released after the end of next season.
-
Yeah I didn't really like this signing. I would have rather got an actual receiver like Royal who can play some special teams as well. Weems isn't really a receiver.
-
I don't know about you but I'm okay with Khalil Bell or Mario Barber starting when the season begins if Forte wants to be a baby about it and sit out until he gets paid or the Bears keep fining him until he shows up.
-
We still need two more WR's. Ideally I'd like to get someone like Eddie Royal and Stephen Hill in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft. Not sure he'll last to their 2nd round pick so they might have to trade down or up from the 2nd round to get the guy.
-
Even if he misses 3 or 4 games or so, he'll still probably end up with 1000 yards receiving. It doesn't matter to me if the Bears did or did not know about this. I'd still probably do the trade anyways. It's not like we had to give up first round picks to acquire the guy. We got him for a pretty fair price.
-
Not sure I understand this. We've got more pressing needs than to keep spinning our wheels with the backup RB's. Barber is fine as long as he's not in at the end of the game where you want your player to stay in bounds to run the clock out.

Update: Williams leaving Buffalo without contract
Bears4Ever_34 replied to flea's topic in Bearstalk
Ok Yeah..? Oh. That's interesting. Nobody knows, yet you make the declarative statement that I'm way off. Nice. -
Not sure if Williams is trying to use Buffalo as leverage or if he's really interested. If the Bears keep signing lesser guys they won't have near enough money to sign him anyways..
