I would say in order of importance, WR, FS, OL, DL, CB, LB but that's before even knowing who we get in free agency. If we get an OL in FA, then that position becomes less important. If we get a FA WR then that position becomes less important etc..

There's not going to be any big name coaches coming to Chicago to be the "Passing coordinator". It's just not going to happen. What will happen most likely is that a quarterbacks coach from somewhere will come over because it's a promotion. No offensive coordinator will come here to be one of two guys that are designated OC's. Or in Bears logic, Darryl Drake will be the guy.
-
If Ruskell is the next GM I quit watching Bears football.
-
If Darryl Drake gets promoted to the passing coordinator I'll LMAO.
-
He pretty much is. He's interviewing the candidates along with Teddy, who the GM is suppose to report to even though he knows nothing about the game of football. Then Teddy gets to report to George even though anything Ted wants is going to happen because Georges family supports whatever that guy wants to do. Lovie is basically the GM here while Ted is the owner.
-
Nah, not with this team. Lovie has all the power to do whatever he wants.
-
The Job isn't as good as it is with other teams. It would be if our idiots running the team were gone and the new GM could come in with his new hand picked coach. I'm sure that stuff has already begun to affect alot of the decisions these guys are making. Who knows if DeCosta comes if he had total control, instead of having a coach here he doesn't want.
-
This team has no idea how to play to Cutler's strengths its just sickening. Doubly bad news to start off my morning. Decosta out, and now what I feared most of Mike Tice being our OC.. This has all the makings of disaster when you are putting basically two guys in position of OC. Who the hell has ever heard of a "Run game coordinator" and a "Passing coordinator". This just reeks of utter failure.

I used to think Defense wins championships and maybe it still does but what we are seeing now is the evolution of high scoring passing offenses. The Packers, Saints, or Patriots are going to win it this year and all their defenses suck but nobody can keep up with them on the scoreboard, especially GB. Look at what Detroit's done. With all the rule changes it has put defenses at a disadvantage and allowed teams to exploit it through the air. If you breath on a guy going over the middle, it's a 15 yard penalty. We are now in a league where Rookies can come in and throw for over 4,000 yards. I think offense is every bit as important as a solid defense now.

New GM's thoughts on draft w/ a lame duck coach....
Bears4Ever_34 replied to ASHKUM BEAR's topic in Bearstalk
It's also a huge reason we made the Superbowl. Those spots you mentioned, at the time, we had Urlacher in his prime, Tommie Harris when he was at his best, before the injury, and Mike Brown who quite possibly was one of if not the best safety in the league at the time. -
DeCosta is the guy I want if I had to pick but I think there are still several legit candidates out there. The Bears are going to get a good one. Bill Polian is still out there too.

I just want a new face, even if it's a lateral move. I'm just tired of Lovie. He's had decent results with this team during his tenure but there aren't that many coaches that keep there jobs if they only make the playoffs once in the last 5 seasons.
-
Was never a huge Olsen fan. I felt like he dropped too many passes to be considered a great pass catching TE. Drops is a very familiar thing here in Chicago so lets hope the new GM can replace that vacancy with an even better player even if it's at a different position.
-
When asked about how he felt that the Bears haven't made the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years Lovie said that the Bears have been 1 out of 2 in the last two seasons.. This is the kind of shit that I can't stand with him.
-
I don't think the GM cares one way or the other what type of defense to run, that's on the coach. If he comes here, he'll be drafting based on our Cover 2 scheme until Lovie is gone which could be as early as 2013.
-
Sounds about right to me. I would like Bowe the most followed by Marcus Colston. Stevie Johnson would be a nice consolation prize. I don't think you pay Desean Jackson the money he's going to want but it won't matter because Philly will most likely franchise him. Garcon is too much of a Johnny Knox clone. Both receivers are fast and both drop alot of passes. Robinson is interesting because of how he ended the year and I'd welcome him to come here to be our #2.
-
I worry about Jackson's mental toughness and his injury history in San Diego. He's 28 years old and doesn't seem to be much of a motivated player. Obviously he would be a gigantic upgrade but I think it's important that regardless of who we get in free agency, we need an early pick to be spent on a young WR that can grow with Cutler.

There was a story about the guy from Baltimore coming here this morning, Eric DeCosta. Just looking at their draft history my top two choices would be DeCosta and Marc Ross from the New York Giants organization. Check out each of their Bios.. DeCosta: http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Staf...ic_DeCosta.aspx 2011: Baltimore selected CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado) with the 27th-overall pick. 2010: Ravens traded for Pro Bowl WR Anquan Boldin, added quality veteran free agent DE Cory Redding and strengthened team depth through the draft. 2009: Promoted to director of player personnel, following six successful seasons as scouting director...Ravens drafted All-Rookie team honoree T Michael Oher and signed free agent K Billy Cundiff, who earned his first Pro Bowl in 2010. 2008: Led the Ravens during the NFL Draft, selecting QB Joe Flacco (18th overall), who became the Diet Pepsi (fan vote) Rookie of the Year, and RB Ray Rice, who earned his first Pro Bowl in ‘09. 2007: The Ravens drafted All-Rookie Team performer G Ben Grubbs (Auburn) as the team's first-round pick (29th overall)...Also selected T Jared Gaither in the fifth round of the Supplemental Draft. 2006: Drafted All-Rookie Team standouts DT Haloti Ngata (12th overall) and S Dawan Landry (fifth round)...Baltimore also selected top-notch P Sam Koch (sixth round). 2005: Selected All-Rookie Team honoree WR Mark Clayton (22nd overall), who had a record-breaking first year, and C/G Jason Brown (fourth round). Another important thing to note is, with the new GM and the fact that the Bears are keeping Lovie for 2012 and not Mike Martz, Jay could potentially go through TWO more offensive coordinators within the next two seasons once the GM has the power to fire Lovie. That is not a good situation at all and it's one of the reasons putting a nix on firing lovie this season is so damn dumb. Lovie already has to choose yet another new OC before next season, if he's gone after next year, and the new GM hires the new HC for the Bears, that coach is going to want to choose his own staff which means whoever that OC is this year, probably won't be here for more than a season.
-
It's beyond idiotic but typical Bears to do something like this. After all, Ted did say that the new GM has to share some of the same beliefs of their golden boy head coach so this doesn't come as a surprise. As far as I'm concerned Ted Phillips should have been out the door right after Jerry Angelo. The two came in together, they should both leave together for creating this mess.
-
I'm sure they Bears will probably interview him, not only because he's a logical candidate but also because of the Rooney rule.
-
Yeah, hiring a GM is not going to be as easy as the Bears think. New GM's like to bring in their own coaches. That's usually how it works. When you hamstring them for a year by not allowing them to replace the current coach, it makes the job that much less appealing. But I gotta ask.. They say, with the way the current structure is here for the Bears, the GM has to report to the CEO Ted Phillips. My question is why? For what purpose? Ted Phillips doesn't know anything about how to build a football team, he's a business guy. What are you running by him that you need his opinion on? That's the part I find scary.
-
Then we are talking about something completely different.

I've only responded based on some of your comments that I don't necessarily agree with. You're original comment was about my exaggeration which I don't find accurate based on the fact that the teams we were going up against were crap and with the way Cutler was playing, I think we would have finished 12-4. I don't see how that is any kind of exaggeration. I find that to be a fair assessment. Then you decided to start getting 'more specific' and through all of that we had more differences of opinions. But then again, you didn't really have much to say about it other than trying to use luck as a basis for you argument.
