Just an absolute disaster on defense today. We will not win against Detroit next week if that's how we are going to play. That was horrendous.
-
What a terrible spot. Are you kidding me?!
-
That's the 2nd wasted timeout we've had to use because our idiot play caller can't get the play into Cutler in time. It happens atleast twice ever game.
-
Time to start tanking games. This one's over.
-
I'm an idiot for not starting Steve Smith...
-
And that's where a #1 receiver helps immensely. That ball should have been caught.
-
We might actually lose this, lol. Unbelievable.
-
Cam Newton has time to eat his lunch in the pocket. Julius Peppers and Bears pass rush is non existent.
-
Omiyale needs to go die in a fire. I hate him.
-
God. AGAIN. WTH is wrong with this defense?!
-
DEVIN HESTER YOU ARE RIDICULOUS!!!!!
-
Good to see the run game get going. Now if only our defense would force some 3 and outs..
-
Old like Allowing Steve Smith to run freely downfield with nobody within 20 yards of him.. Our safeties are terrible. Turns out I should have started Steve Smith in my fantasy league..
-
The Bears defense looks old and slow. What happened to our run defense? My god. We caught a break there because that was a TD if Lafell didn't slip.
-
Um did he just say that? Somebody help me here, If im reading this wrong but did Roy Williams just blatantly call out Jay Cutler? If so, this can't be good at all.
-
Doesn't look like he's going to get that new contract he wants if he keeps sitting out of games..

It's not. I would take my chances when one of the best play making receivers in the game is lining up on your side. Guys like that don't have to be open to make a play. You can just throw a jump ball every once in a while and let him out jump the defender. Great WR's make offenses better because they can have an impact on the game even if they don't catch many passes just by virtue of making the defense double team. It opens up more opportunities for other receivers. Not to the extent of having an actual top flight Wideout to cover. It makes the job easier when neither of them can get off jams or make adjustments on a ball that's not thrown perfectly. Not to mention the ones that are, often bounce off helmets or shoulder pads. The New Orleans game was some what of an aberration with how the play calling went. Martz was the biggest reason to blame for calling those 7 step drops. We've seen him adjust last year to a shorter quicker passing game. Now imagine doing that with a #1 receiver. There is no question our pass protection has room for major improvement but adding that is still not going to solve our issues in the passing game when our guys can't make the routine plays.

He'd be more of a replacement for Urlacher because he plays MLB. Not sure how good he'd be at the strong side. Supposedly they are asking for a 3rd rounder. I'd see if they'll take a 4th but I wouldn't go much higher than that.

We need more skill position players period. Besides this tackle class is not very deep this year, do you really want another Chris Williams? At the end of the day, drafting lineman are not going to help us score more points and become a more explosive offense, but WR's would. The greatest trait in a WR is the ability to separate. Right now not a single one of our receivers have that ability and it won't change unless we put more emphasis on the WR position in the draft that's not from a Div II school. I don't think people really understand just how important it is to have a great WR. Do you see how easy it is for Matt Stafford in the redzone? Hell all he has to do is flip it up there and watch Calvin Johnson come down with it. Cutler had that guy in Denver, and now he needs it again.

WR Should defintely be our #1 priority next offseason in the draft. Especially if we end up picking in the teens or god forbid the top 10. I'm so sick and tired of watching this same group of WR's every year, it's time for some fresh blood. If we can get a potential #1 WR in the draft this year, we have to go for it with no questions asked. What our offense lacks is weapons. I mean, legit weapons. It's been an absolute crime what we've made Jay Cutler work with in this offense. You look at just about every single team in the league and you can pin point one or two guys that you really have to worry about on the offensive side of the ball in the passing game. Is anyone really scared of Devin Hester catching 90 balls are going over 1000 yards in a season? How about Johnny Knox? Roy Williams? He hasn't done it since 06. You see where I'm getting at? Hester and Knox are both big play threats because of their speed but it only happens in spurts throughout a season. If we can get our hands on a #1 receiver he not only makes our offense better, but he makes Jay Cutler better and Vice Versa.

I saw Merriweather blitz a few times yesterday and I've seen RM bring DJ Moore in on occasion. The Bears just don't run alot of blitzes because it's not their style, and not really a strength. They'd rather sit back in the cover 2 and force the opposing offense to drive the length of the field to score, and hope the quarterback will make a mistake.

WR is equally as important as having an offensive line. I think people really undersell this. If you have a good offensive line but receivers that can't separate, then it doesn't do you a whole lot of good.. and vice versa. The Bears won't have a good offense until both of these positions go through a major overhaul. Atleast Randy Moss can still separate from his man at times and will catch passes that hit him in the hands instead of letting it bounce off his facemask or chest.. I'd do that, however I don't think Miami has any interest in trading Brandon Marshall. He's been one of the few bright spots along with Henne this season. It would probably take atleast a first round draft pick just to get them to talk, in which case I'd say no thanks. Who knows, if we keep playing the way we are, we might end up with a top 10-15 draft pick and be able to draft a guy like Justin Blackmon or the kid from South Carolina.

The Bears won't fire any coordinators during the season, that almost never happens unless the coach that fires the coordinator takes over the play calling duties because he's familiar with that specific side of the ball. Lovie is a defensive guy so that makes the firing of Martz during the season even less likely. However, if at the end of the year the offense doesn't progress or we miss the playoffs, I could see the Bears just letting Martz walk. I never liked the hiring to begin with and now we are faced potentially in a difficult situation. Are we ruining Cutler's prime years if we bring in yet another OC? He had Jeremy Bates for 2 years, Ron Turner for 1, and then Mike Martz for 2 years. This offense, more than anything needs a West Coast Style to it. I'd be all for Jeremy Bates again if he'd be willing to come here since Jay is already familiar with his scheme but he already turned us down two years ago so we'll see.. If you look at all the great quarterbacks around the league you'll notice that they always have the same coordinator with them throughout the years or the stick with the same scheme. I think it's clear that the Martz scheme doesn't work here because we don't have the talent on the offensive line or WR position.

The guy we are missing, other than a true #1 is Earl Bennett. He was Jay's guy on 3rd downs and whenever we needed a big play in the passing game. Earl Bennett is far and away, the best receiver on this team. Having him out really hurts. I am so sick of our receivers, almost as much as our offensive line-- we have to do something about it. Randy Moss is out there and has said that he would be interested in returning to the right team at the right price. Just sayin..
