I understand the concern with the play call but you still expect the guy to know the situation he's in and not make that mental error. I mean, that's pop warner stuff. He just had a brain fart and cost the Bears a win.
-
No, they really didn't play prevent defense. Prevent defense is what you do with a last second hail mary where everyone goes back to the goal line with the exception of the 3 or 4 down lineman. That wasn't the case against Tebow. It was Cover 2 that they played terribly and allowed the free check downs and then forgot how to tackle. The way the Bears played it made it look like they were playing prevent but after watching those drives again, they were always in the Cover 2 alignment. Well I'm sorry you feel that way but I don't think I trust you in determining the credibility of that number. Oh really?? Is that so? Well if you say it, it must be true. Ignoring what? They were running with pretty much the same gameplan as the Denver Broncos for the entire game. They didn't shut anything down. They stuck with the run from the 1st quarter all the way to the 4th quarter. It's not like they were throwing the ball all over the field for 3 quarters and then reverted to running the clock out. So your stats don't really do anything on the offensive side of the ball. However on defense, they do make sense. Even though they still weren't playing prevent defense, they were playing the cover 2 softer than what they should have been. But I would agree that they should have stayed with what was working instead of changing things up. I'm only saying that the Bears have ALWAYS played cover 2 in these late game situations with a lead and it is the defense to play because you want to make the offense drive the length of the field while chewing up the clock without giving up the big play. And again, they executed that in almost the worst way they could. Huh? You're the one throwing out random variables of if and buts when I've been saying all along that if you are going to do that then you must bring up the same variables for Denver, which you didn't. But at the same time why waste time throwing out hypotheticals? Stick to reality, and the reality was, like I've been trying to get through to you, we had a lead with 2 min to go and that one play from Barber literally cost us the football game. Of course if things happened a certain way we could have made things easier on us to secure the win but you can't just say that. You don't analyze a football game like that because there are too many variables that could change the course of the game for both teams. I'm working with reality and reality tells me that the Bears were in perfect position to finish the game off if Marion barber falls down before he reaches the sideline. Avg drive length is what it is. It's nothing more than an indicator in how successful you are at maintaining possession of the ball. But again, the Bears were doing the right thing on offense by trying to take the game out of Haine's hands and eliminating his errors. If this was happening with Jay Cutler, then I would be pissed. The best way for them to win that game was to do what they did on offense. Defensively, again, they were awful late in the 4th quarter because they got soft. Yeah but you won't say that Barber's play actually lost us the football game when in fact it did due to the fact that time would have been heavily on our side by the time Den got the ball back. You are halfway there. Well of course, but isn't that the most ideal scenario every team would like to be in? Things don't always work out that easily. Sometimes you have to win ugly.

It is without question, the most important part for sustained success. Look no further than the Green Bay Packers.
-
It is, but we are still on the outside looking in where the two teams ahead of us have a very favorable schedule. It'll be interesting to see how the Chargers and Lions game turns out, but their last game against the Packers is probably a win for them since GB would have no reason anymore to play their starters. If we lose Sunday then none of it will matter anyways but we are obviously going to need some help to get in now.
-
Yeah, that's what the Bears wanted but that still doesn't explain why Marion Barber didn't just fall down, because that negated them being able to run out the clock.
-
First of all, the Bears didn't play prevent defense. What they ran was their base Cover 2 which is the perfect defense to run in that situation. It's the same thing they did to the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers to finish them off at the end of games. They just executed horribly. Secondly, I didn't make that number up. It was shown on ESPN where they used a formula designated to show you the % of how likely it was for Denver to win throughout all of the Tebow comebacks and the number was 3% for the Bears (The lowest out of all the Tebow comebacks). You are really nitpicking at random things. How about the perfectly thrown ball by Tebow early in the 3rd quarter that should have gone for a touchdown to Demaryius Thomas? What about their 6 drops that might have allowed them to sustain drives? What if the blocked FG doesn't happen? How about the missed throw by Haine to Barber that would have gone for atleast 50 if not a touchdown in the 2nd half. You are throwing way too many variables into the situation but only on one side of the equation. You can nitpick at every little thing if you want but to what end? Things happen, and some things don't and the reality is the Bears still had the game in hand with a 10-7 lead and 2 min to go where one play by Barber literally lost the game for the Bears. What part of that do you not comprehend?

For some reason I just have a feeling the Bears will reach for somebody like Ryan Broyles from Oklahoma. That just sounds like a Bears pick to me. I'm hoping for someone like Michael Floyd, or Alshon Jeffery in round 1. If those guys are not available, I think it's worth considering a guy like Nick Toon or Dwight Jones depending on who's available to us. There are alot of routes the Bears could go early in the draft this year. Maybe a guy like Quintin Coples drops to us, then we could pair him up with Peppers. You never know. It happens every year in the draft, where someone you think is going high ends up falling 6-7-8 spots in the draft for whatever reason.

We have to win the next game first before Cutler's return is even relevant. I'm sure the Bears won't throw him out there if we lose next week against Seattle which pretty much eliminates any playoff hope that we might have had. We also need the Lions and Falcons to lose. GB will rest their starters once they secure the game next week against the Chiefs. I don't see them playing Aaron Rodgers much if at all in the last two games once they rap up homefield throughout the playoffs. It sounds like Cutler might be able to come back on Christmas if push came to shove and we still had a shot at the postseason. He's been throwing the football for about a week already so now it's about building his strength in that thumb to get him out there. I think the Bears are hopeful he might be able to give it a go on Xmas night or at the very least the Minnesota game.
-
They were trying to get a first down. You don't throw the ball in that situation unless your name is Drew Brees, Tom Brady, or Aaron Rodgers. It should also go without saying that Marion Barber should have recognized that he wasn't going to get the first down mid run and should have just fallen down instead of letting his momentum carry him towards the sidelines, thus losing the game for the Bears.

Haley is a nutjob, I want nothing to do with him. I hope its not Tice either. I want somebody that would run a West coast style that fits us better. Would Jeremy Bates be willing to accept an offer now that Lovie signed an extension? Norv Turner is also an interesting possible candidate because he, like Martz, is a disciple of the old Air Coryell offense.

It's more fun to let 50 cent do the talking when there is nothing but crap to respond to. You hardly ever make any valid points that are worthy of responses. Now I know how Stephen A Smith feels when he has to sit and argue with Skip Bayless all day long. I'm tired of educating you about the game of Football. You talk about Math 101 and then dismiss the fact that they were up by 3 points (10 minus 7 = 3) and all Marion Barber had to do was fall down and the Bears end the game right there. The games over. We win. There's nothing to dispute about that. Stop trying to sit there and spend all day trying to make up shit arguments to beat around the facts. Who gives a rats ass about debating the fact that they executed terrible defensively in the last 3 minutes of the game, the bottom line is they still had the lead and would have had to do something incredibly stupid like running out of bounds to affect the outcome of the game. They actually had a 3% chance of losing that game when the Bears had the ball before Barber goes out of bounds. That means the only things that really could have affected the outcome were running out of bounds, or a fumble. Furthermore, ask around. Go and ask any human being that watched the Bears game and ask them what lost the game. I would venture to say every one of them would tell you Marion Barber.
-
I would still take Tebow over Haine if I had the choice. Tebow didn't win Denver the game though. The Bears totally blew it.
-
But in fairness, we would have easily won all three of these games we just lost if we had Cutler. We would have finished 12-4.
-
We've been saying that for years and nothing ever changes. Then we had one good year last season and decided that was enough to give Lovie Smith another extension even though he still had a year left on his contract. Now we are stuck with him.
-
I don't think there was a play where Peppers was not held. The officiating was beyond awful today.
-
Wtf is there to be obtuse about? The Bears lost the game because of Marion Barber, period end of story. The coaches didn't fumble the ball and the coaches didn't tell Barber to run out of bounds. That stuff is Football 101.
-
You are going to make me go insane. Look, the coaching was awful, we all know that. Lovie is a moron for using the prevent defense which consequently doesn't prevent anything. Great.. Okay, now lets move on to the final 2 minutes of the game when we were LEADING the game. All that other stuff you can analyze all you want but the Bears should have still won the game if Barber just stays in bounds. It's not really a hard thing to understand.
-
Oh Jesus Christ that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. The game was LOST right when Barber fumbled. What part of that do you not understand? THEY COULD HAVE RAN THE CLOCK OUT. Game Over! The prevent defense gave up 7 points and all the Bears had to do was stay in bounds and the game was theres. If you don't understand that then please check in to the nearest mental institution.
-
God you're a dumb ass. THEY WIN THE freakin GAME IF HE STAYS IN BOUNDS OR IF HE DOESN"T FUMBLE!
-
I can't wait to listen to the Doug and OB Show after this one!
-
Did you not see him run out of bounds when we could have easily ran the damn clock out!!!?
-
Unbelievable. Barber lost the game for us.
-
This is what the Bears get for going into prevent mode and not playing their normal defense. Are they really that freakin scared of Tim Tebow blowing the top off our defense with a long pass? Hopefully Lovie gets fired after this game. I want somebodys head on a platter.
-
LOL The Bears are getting TEBOWED!!!!
