Finally. A connection that actually makes sense.
-
Omiyale won't be starting next year with Carimi. And if he does, then it doesn't say much for the player we drafted in the first round. Webb is bad but the upgrade we get from a guard like Nicks is a better one then if we signed Bushrod or Colon. if the Bears are serious about cleaning up their line play, they'll spill out the money to make that improvement. It's not as if they don't have the money. They have the 3rd most cap room out of all teams in football.

WR is actually a huge need. Unless you enjoy watching Cutler run around trying to find receivers that can't separate from coverage, and can't catch the football. How many times last year did we witness Johnny Knox running the wrong route or dropping passes that have hit him right in the hands? Sometimes more than once in the same game! Devin Hester is certainly not a reliable receiver unless you put him in the position that he can actually succeed in which is the slot-- something Martz seems to never do. Bennett is our only all around average receiver on the team because of his hands, his blocking ability, and his smartness. If you are rating areas of needs, WR is either #1 or #2 and with the Bears cap room, they can afford to sign key players from both WR and OL positions.

Or maybe there is a better player out there that isn't a tackle. His name is Carl Nicks and he's a guard. None of those guys are worth writing home about anyways. Marginal upgrades at best. Nicks would be a pretty substantial upgrade.
-
For that price, why in the world did the Bears not try to get in on this?
-
I would be very happy if we got Carl Nicks.

So far, I don't think I've heard one name that's been connected with the Bears this FA that I can honestly say "Oh yeah, that makes sense." I've heard Brad Smith, Jason Babin, and then two tackles I've never heard of in Bushrod and Colon. What are we going to do with Brad Smith? He's certainly not good enough to play receiver, and we already have 2 extremely good returners in Hester and Knox.. Manning too if he stays which now looks doubtful. Why are we not going after a guard? Names that I thought would be mentioned based on common logic would be players like Braylon Edwards, Sidney Rice, Malcom Floyd, Carl Nicks, and maybe even Roy Williams because of his connection with Martz and Daryl Drake.. Hopefully something significant can happen within the next two days but so far, I can't say that I have a clue as to what management is doing right now.

He's still young (25) very athletic, quick, decent in pass coverage and I think he's a pretty solid tackler. He's not a guy that's going to rush the passer (only two career sacks in 4 years) but I would consider him a definite upgrade over what we have right now.
-
I didn't think it was possible but with the signing of Brad Smith our receiving core might have just gotten worse, haha. Obviously this has to mean we lose Manning in which case, if you gave me the option between the two I'd rather have Manning. This is an utterly stupid move. I don't understand how many times it has to be said before management realizes we need a REAL #1 WR. Hell, I would be okay with a Braylon Edwards or Roy Williams signing even, just to give Cutler a viable non midget target..

I can dig it.

Master list of Bears FA Targets, Rumors, & Reports

I'm a little perturbed that there hasn't been any mention of Sidney Rice and the Bears yet. -
Pass. He's a 31 year old, and it took him like 8 years to finally do something productive on the field. I don't want to invest a ton of money in a player that could be a one year wonder..
-
If we got someone like Sidney Rice and an OG I'd be thrilled.
-
I just read a little bit on the Bears board and people have been saying that a couple of ESPN radio guys along with John Clayton mentioned Asomghua as a candidate for the Bears. That would be pretty incredible if we got him to lock down every NFL receiver, including C Johnson and Greg Jennings twice a year.

We don't need another midget. We need a taller more physical receiver like a Vincent Jackson or the guy I want, Sidney Rice. -
Carl Knicks and Sidney Rice.
-
I don't know anything about this guy but I'm glad they atleast attempted to draft a OLB, which was actually a position of need in this draft. Not like the QB and Safety selections.. Hope this JT Thomas can work his way into being a solid starter for us, or at the very least a special teams ace.
-
Only if the Bears go out in FA and get a #1 WR and a starting Guard will I be comfortable with this draft overall. But It would not surprise me if the Bears didn't address any of those needs. They are the Bears.
-
At what point will he be cut? Week 2 or 3 of the preseason?
-
LMAO, I'm not watching the draft next year.. I can't take this.

3/13/11: Stephen Burton had one of the most impressive Pro Day performances thus far in this draft season. Burton ran a 4.38 at 6-1, 224. His 10-yard split was an incredible 1.46. He's a mid-round sleeper. Height: 6-1. Weight: 224. Projected 40 Time: N/A. Combine 40 Time: 4.50. Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38. Vertical: 35. Broad: 10-4. Hand: 9 1/8. Projected Round (2011): 4-6.

Maybe we'll go after a guard in FA?...
-
Out of the first 3 picks the Bears had, two of them have gone to defense. We were the 30th ranked offense last year. Spend some fricken picks on offense! It makes it worse when the positions you draft on defense (The 3rd rounder) aren't even positions of need. I would have been fine if we drafted a tall physical corner in the 3rd, but drafting a scrub safety was downright awful. Bears still need a CB, OG, and a WR. Hopefully most of these picks will be spent on the offensive end today.
-
He's also a very important piece to our return game. Last year was his best year at safety as well. He finally started to get it. And now were probably going to let him go..
-
Well that's what happens during the draft. People want the guys they think are best. We got nobody I really wanted, therefore I'm upset.
