    Targets

I still think the ball needs to be spread around to more receivers. Only targeting 5 players on offense isn't enough. Other guys need to get into the fold. For comparison purposes, the Packers and Lions have targeted 11 different receivers already, the Broncos have targeted 10, and the Saints 9. So while the Bears have done better not focusing on Marshall all the time like last year, they still need more guys getting involved.
  2. I hope Long puts him on his ass. And I think he will. You don't want to mess with Kyle Long.
  3. Another option could be to move Peppers inside more often, allowing McClellin or whomever to get more snaps at DE, though I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing. We'd get worse defending the run. Could help Peppers out, maybe.
  4. I suspect they'll activate Minter now and start Nate Collins in place of Melton. Collins has shown flashes of being an above average pass rusher. Let's see what he can do now as a starter (presumably).
  5. Has an OL ever been offensive rookie of the year?
  6. As with Games 1 and 2, this game had its good and bad moments. The Good: - No turnovers on offense - Cutler continues to shine late in games when the team needs it - The defense continues to score off turnovers - No pre-snap or holding penalties (that I can remember) on offense. The Bad: - The offense continues to lack explosiveness - The defense is giving up way too many explosive plays. - The front 4 is still generating zero pass rush My overall observations: The Bears go to 3-0, but it still feels.. odd, to me. The offense has been "aight" through 3 games, and the defense has been giving up huge chunks of yardage. When they aren't creating turnovers, are they just going to continue to be a sieve? Will the offense be able to generate enough points to overcome that? The answer should be a yes if you are buying in to Trestman. That is what he was hired for: to put points on the board. While the offense has been hot and cold to start the season, Jay Cutler has been mostly good. I am beginning to feel more and more confident in these close games with him at quarterback. Again, tonight, it looked like he just flipped a switch in the 4th quarter and took over. The last touchdown drive was about 90% all on his play making abilities. Credit also goes to Earl Bennett for making a sick catch in the endzone. The Bears still need a burner, though. My concern is that teams will begin to take away all these short routes and force Marshall, Jeffery and company to beat them over the top. It's too difficult to consistently score when you have to grind out most of your drives. We saw a little bit of that going on tonight. What I take away from this game is that Mel Tucker is going to blitz until the front 4 proves they can get to the quarterback, and also that the offense, in the long run, may just be missing one home-run hitter that will take them from being an average-above average offense to a great one.
  7. That looked like a touchdown. Check that... That WAS a touchdown.
  8. Could be Melton's last game in a Bear's uniform. Hopefully it's not as serious as it looked.
  9. This is where having a speed receiver would help in these situations.
  10. The offense needs to run some screens to the RB and get something going. The Steelers are just sitting on all these short routes because we haven't done anything down the field.
  11. Steelers have 335 yards of total offense right now. The Bears have 178...
  12. Yep. Mike Peraira agrees with you.. as do I. Should be a 24-3 game. Walters' mental error cost the team 7 points. Offense started off so well, but then slowed way down in the 2nd quarter. The defense has been giving up huge plays, but they have also created a few themselves. The blitzing is both helping and hurting. Roethlisberger already has 142 yards on 9 completions. A lot of those on broken plays and a lack of pressure from the front 4. I'd like to see the offense get back to what they were doing before the 2nd quarter. Cutler was making efficient passes. Forte had a few nice runs and catches to move the chains. A stop by the defense, and a TD drive by the Bears offense to start this 3rd quarter would pretty much seal the game.
  13. Got to love how the defense still creates those turnovers and turns them into TD's. Looked like the receiver had his head turned. Wright was there ready for it. Another blitz that creates the turnover.
  14. Front four still generating no pressure whatsoever. Tucker might have to keep blitzing as long as it is working.
  15. Unreal how the Bears got jipped out of 2 consecutive TD runs by Bush. freakin officials... Thank jesus they finally got credit on the 3rd attempt.
  16. The monsters of the midway defense needs to be out in full force tonight. Get to the quarterback, and don't allow them to get any type of run game going. Should be a recipe for success. Offensively, I'd like to see them sustain some drives and win the battle of field position game early. If you keep Cutler comfortable early in the game, that should bode well for the rest of the game.
  17. My initial thoughts when I heard the trade were, "Wtf is Cleveland thinking?" They give up Trent Richardson (a former #3 overall pick) for a 1st round draft pick that'll wind up somewhere in the high teens-early twenties in next years draft. However, I can see a win/win situation for both teams. The Browns now have the ammunition to pull off another mega deal for a player they covet in next year's draft (like Bridgewater), or worse case, they could end up using both those 1st rounders to immediately begin revamping their team to win next year and in the future.
  18. I'm undecided on this game. My heart says Bears win by 10, my head says they lose a close one. I think it all comes down to whether or not the defensive line shows up for the Bears, and if Jay Cutler can limit his turnover tendencies vs an aggressive Steeler's defense that was originally designed to stop West coast offenses. So far, Cutler has proven to be resilient in the 4th quarter. We may need him to come up big again on the road against a desperate team who pretty much have to win this game if they want any shot at making the playoffs.

    2-0

I agree with all of that. Maneri was open, but it was a throw that probably shouldn't have been risked given that he's throwing it right over the top of the D-Line, in a congested area, where guys can still get their hands up.
  20. I was not even aware of the McCown thing until it was brought up after the game was over, so I have no idea why you are pairing my comments to Stinger and Alaskan Grizzlie's McCown comment together. Nice spin job, there.
  21. The only thing that I don't like seeing from Cutler right now is still the boneheaded turnovers. It seems to just be something in his DNA. Fortunately it's something you can manage, and that seems to be what Marc Trestman is doing for Jay, now. And he's doing it by getting the most out of his talent. What I love most about Cutler right now is seeing the rhythm in his footwork. On that last drive, I just loved how he had that bounce in his dropback, which is something I've always admired about Aaron Rodgers. Nobody does it better than him. If Jay can continue to do that, he is going to see a dramatic increase in his accuracy, which I think right now is hovering around 67-68%.
