  1. Webb was called for 2 penalties last night if I'm not mistaken. That kind of stuff can't happen if he's looking to stick on this roster. Mill's experience playing on a college team that was very pass-happy and uptempo is proving to be helpful right now. He's been able to hold his own in both run and pass in 2 starts during the pre-season. I still think we're going to see both Long and Mills struggle early on in the season once teams start throwing the kitchen sink at them, but we shall see. At least we know that the Bears have a competent offensive line coach who knows what he's doing now, compared to years previous.
  2. I was pleasantly surprised with how well Cutler managed the offense last night. He looked fantastic. His footwork has gotten better from the looks of it. I haven't seen one ball thrown off his back foot yet, which is a good sign. Still obviously has a long way to go because now I need to see the consistency. We know Jay is capable of looking like an All-Pro one game, and then looking like shit for the next 2. It's on both Trestman and Cutler to coach that part of his game out of him. One other side note that I really enjoyed from last night's game, and that was the effect this zone blocking scheme has had on Matt Forte, just as I have said it would for years now. He's the perfect RB for a ZBS because of his running style. He's been a beast so far. Let's hope it translates to the regular season now. I like what I'm seeing.
  3. Cornelius Washington is a freak of nature.
  4. I'm not sure he's actually made one positive play all pre-season. He's been called for penalties, dropped balls, and even forced a pick 6 thrown by Blanchard for giving up on the pass.
  5. Our backups are horrendous. Starters need to stay healthy or we're screwed. Pre-season games are to see how deep of a team you are, and right now, just judging off 2 and a half pre-season games so far, the Bears 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams have not been good at all.
  6. Bennett and Marshall have both been awful tonight. Catch a ball, please. 5 drops between the two of them. I think 6 or 7 total for the game so far.
  7. It should be noted that the Raiders are hot garbage, but I am really liking what I've seen thus far from this Bears offense. If this is Trestman's vanilla stuff, I can't wait to see what he has in store for week 1.
  8. Heck of a play design on the Forte touchdown. Now THAT is what I was hoping to see tonight. Cutler is looking sharp early, which is a good sign.
  9. I'd like to see more of the Trestman offense, as far as formations go. I also would like to see Cutler get through a game without one of his trademark, "What the hell were you thinking?" turnovers.
  10. Classic case of the NFL covering their asses from the lawsuit on a hit that was actually about as picture perfect as it gets. First of all, the guy wasn't defenseless. He had clearly taken 2 steps and made a football move before he was blown up. Meanwhile, the NFL will continue to trick parents and kids into believing that football is a safe sport, and players will continue to be forced to go low and ruin careers by blowing out knees instead.
  11. Sounds like the plan is going to be to keep one of Palmer or Edwards as the 3rd QB while signing Blanchard to the practice squad again. Be interesting to see if they do keep 3 quarterbacks. I thought it was stupid last year only carrying 2.
  12. My patience with McClellin is wearing thin. After another lack luster performance last night, I'm beginning to think he might need to be moved from defensive end. He has been getting manhandled against the run since day 1, which is exactly what everybody said the day he was drafted, and it hasn't gotten any better. I've been watching him closely all of pre-season. The guy is sticking to lineman like glue at the point of attack. Unless he's running by someone, he's probably not getting to the quarterback because he can't shed a block. I'd like to see my 19th overall pick be able to stay on the field for all 3 downs, but unfortunately it doesn't appear like he will be able to do that. His best shot may still be at LB'er.
  13. If Bostic keeps making plays like this, it's going to be awfully difficult for DJ Williams to get his starting job back. He is still a work in progress. To me, he just looks like an athlete right now, surviving off his natural physical gifts and instincts as opposed to playing smartly and technically sound. He had his missteps in the passing game last night, as he did in Game 1. Overall though, he looks like a definite keeper.
  14. I wouldn't worry about Martellus Bennett yet, until a few weeks into the regular season. I have to imagine Trestman is hiding how much he plans on using the middle of the field for the real games, and I expect Bennett to be a big part of that. As for Cutler, I am still not quite sure he's the right man for this offense. I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, but he seemed to regress a little bit in Pre-Season Game #2. For the most part, he had plenty of time, and it looked like he had no idea what to do with it. I saw a little bit of panic from him last night, compared to Game #1 where he looked poised and comfortable in the pocket. I thought in both instances, the two sacks should have never happened. #1 was slightly more excusable than the 2nd one, but those are two plays where the ball has to get out, either via a throw away or a pass to a receiver. Next week is a big week for this offense, and Cutler specifically. What I want to see is a quick start. The last 2 games have started off in disaster fashion, which is way too reminiscent of the Mike Tice era, as brief as it was. Kyle Long looks like the real deal so far. I haven't seen a lineman play that well in a Bears uniform since.. FOREVER. My god. He was stonewalling people with one arm, pancaking people left and right. He was far and away the best OL in the game yesterday, which isn't something you expect for a rookie. I was also impressed with the other rookie, Jordan Mills. It was less flashy, but he seemed to be able to hold his own in both pass protection and in run blocking. I am starting to be more encouraged with our unit up front with Mills and Long in as starters. Consistency is key.
  15. Blanchard is now out with a broken hand. So basically they'll have to bring in a new QB for 2 weeks, force him to learn the playbook, and then ship him out when it comes down to the final cuts.
  16. The Bears 4th string is absolutely horrific.
  17. That was the hardest/legal hit I think I've seen since Reggie Bush got drilled in a playoff game a few years back.
  18. Trestman's play calling is like a breath of fresh air.
  19. Horrendous throw by Cutler. Not even close to open as Marshall was being bracketed by two defenders.
  20. Long has looked legit so far. Guy is a beast, strength-wise.
  21. Cutler is holding onto the ball for way too long. First sack was on Bennett. Second was on Jay.
  22. You are 100% correct. When I heard about the special teams thing, I immediately thought, "Why the hell did they draft him for then?" This is exactly why the NFL needs to expand its active roster. Then you won't have this issue of forcing skill position players to play on special teams.
  23. DJ isn't going anywhere unless he's out for the season or gets suspended. With all the injuries going around the league this year, I'd rather not just cut a guy who has actual value. I'm pretty excited to see him get healthy and get out there.
  24. That was from today.. This is starting to become a thing. I feel like I read the same tweet everyday.
  25. He looked like he put on more muscle, but it didn't help him from getting stonewalled a few times in the running game. He needs to develop some sort of counter move to help him shed off blocks. He was sticking to lineman like they were glue the other day.
