Maybe, Lovie had some insight, but Phil sure didn't do anything last year(post Lovie) to give SMC any less of a role...He did quite the opposite actually by letting Izzy go and making SMC our #3 DE and not really putting shit behind him. You'd think if Phil didn't like/support the pick he would have, at the very least, gave him some competition for the job.

I sure would like racking up all them picks. I've been doing some more reading up on Pryors cover skills and I'm coming around on him playing centerfield, which is what we'd need him to be. If it doesn't work out then maybe Huff can be that guy and Pryor becomes that Cam Chancelor type SS. That said, for what we need, I think I'd rather grab a guy like Ed Reynolds or Terrance Brooks. I'd probably add a tackle in there at some point though. Britton might be brought back, but they still need a replacement for Scott as well. I can't really argue grabbing an OC, no one really knows what to think about Boggs, but I think I'd probably swap Bodine for a OT. I like DAT but at his size I really think he's more of a #3 gadget type RB. If Forte goes down DAT isn't a guy you wanna rely on for 20+ carries a game....I still think Andre Brown makes a lot of sense in FA, but if we go to the draft a guy I really like is Marion Grice. He'll be taken around the 5-6 round. I of course have been a supporter of Bostic, but with all these picks I can't hate on taking one. Overall I like it though.

People tend to forget that SMC was, depending where you look, ranked anywhere between 22-31, and I believe both New England and Green Bay said he was gonna be their pick. The problem with the pick was that he was projected that high as OLB, not a DE. So did he reach? Ya, a little bit, but I wouldn't call what he's done a major "flaw".
-
The problem with Tuitt is that he wasn't to go through those said workouts neither at the combine or his pro day. Couple that with a subpar 2013 season and you're really just hoping he returns to his 2012 form..... He and Hageman, who also didn't really have a great 2013 season are guys who will be drafted on their potential. Both guys are really intriguing and I wouldn't hate either. But ya I agree that Donald is an elite athlete, and he's still the guy I want. Dude has supposedly been running 4.5s in training for his pro day. You said he'd be a DE if he had length, hell he could probably be a LB if he had some cover skills. He ran a faster 3 cone drill than Mosely did 7.11 vs 7.30 and if he does run a 4.5 at his pro day it will be quicker than Moselys as well(4.63). I don't think there's enough to go off of to say Phil would prefer Tuitt/Hageman vs Donald/Jernigan. In fact he was the director of scouting in KC when they drafted the 6'1" 290 pound Glenn Dorsey with the 5th overall pic, and hes brought in/brought back the 6'2" Nate collins.

Young should provide Allen ample rest. I agree though, you can never have enough pass rushers, between Washington, Bass, and to a lesser extent Lane it sure would be nice if one of those guys really emerges. Having a guy like Allen should help, as should Joe Kim(who I remain intrigued by).

This is true, still worth pointing out.

Whoops, you're right, site I was looking at must be a little out dated, he resigned 2 weeks ago. The point remains though. I kinda doubt Trestman wants a poor, lazy route runner at what he's gonna want $$ wise. If he wants a guy to run a go route he would have played Hester last year.

I brought up Miller when talking about Mundy (he has him ranked as the 26th of 75 safeties)...Well now he's talking DEs... #16 Jared Allen Having signed with the Chicago Bears for 2014, Jared Allen could make a huge impact in helping rebuild a once great defense. Allen will join newcomers Willie Young and Lamarr Houston to give Chicago a solid, aggressive rotation at defensive end. #10 Willie Young Young isn’t well-known outside of the NFC North, but his physicality and the opportunity presented to him in Chicago give him the ability to launch himself onto the national radar in 2014. #6 Lamarr Houston One of the best all-around defensive ends in the game, Houston will be much more recognizable now that he’s signed with Chicago. As an ideal left defensive end, his impact against the run will be huge for the Bears defense Gotta love what Phil did at DE

Ebron and Amaro are basically WRs in a TEs body, so I've backed away from those guys... Jenkins, Niklas, and Fiedorowicz are your more well rounded guys. If they wanna take a chance on a guy with a dusty background, I'd love Colt Lyerla in the 5th/6th. He's a willing blocker, former linebacker who brings that defensive nastiness to his blocking, good speed for a TE, and he was a former RB who actually got a few handoffs for Oregon. I think he'd be great in that Aaron Hernandez role....Hopefully not in that Aaron Hernandez off the field role. I'd be asking for trouble if I didn't add that I only take one of the first few guys if they were already able to address at least DT. Trading down and grabbing more picks would certainly be ideal if they can't snag Donald. That would make grabbing one of them a lot easier.
-
I of course agree. When Trestman came in here I read a lot of articles on the west coast offense, and make no mistake Trestman is running a WCO, and in nearly every article they noted that speed isn't an element needed. The main component is precision route running, and from a quick google search I've seen multiple articles call Desean Jacksons route running poor and lazy. One article called him a one trick pony, and that trick is the go route. Again if the Bears want someone like Jackson they might as well save a ton of $$ and grab DHB or Jacoby Jones.

Disregard my last post about blowing their load on Clemons. Yes, I'd be game to bring back Manning, I think he'd be a big upgrade over Conte in coverage.
-
I'm sure he would if for whatever reason they signed him. I'm just saying I don't think they need a speed element for his offense to thrive, thus I wouldn't spend the 10 mill or whatever he wants to come here. If they wanna blow the rest of their load on one player it should be Chris Clemons......Or perhaps more preferably spend it wisely on a few guys like Andre Brown, Rex Grossman, and Eben Britton. If they want a burner I'd rather sign Jacoby Ford or Darrius Heyward-Bey who give you the same speed and will come MUCH cheaper.
-
I get that he's a speed guy, which is something different, but IMO this would be no different than drafting a TE early. In a WCO that's all about "nickle and diming" teams to set up the deep pass I just don't think top notch speed is an element that is needed for the offense to really take off. It's not a no no though, and I wouldn't hate it at all. The traditionalists won't like the whole gang affiliation thing either. He can obviously have a Marshall like resurrection though. I'd rather spend the money on Chris Clemons.

Ugh, nothing new here. I hate when writers bring up old shit.
-
I'm not saying I wouldn't like it, I just don't see it happening. That quote from Emery pretty much solidifies my thought. I think he'll get every chance to win the MLB spot next year. Like I've said in the past, the way I see it is Bostic, SMC, and Williams are all competitng for 2 spots. Williams has done nothing to be handed the spot. That's just my opinion on the scenario. Mosely also has injury concerns that are said to be "very very real".

To me, I'd put backup TE/RB/QB all in the same category of positions where we should be adding a quality #2....Bears still have around 8m in cap space and I kinda expect 1 or 2 of those spots addressed in FA. Drafting a TE over a RB would be made with the thought that Trestman would want to run a lot of 2 TE sets, which means the TE would play a bigger role than the backup RB. RB is obviously a need though. Last year we kept hearing things like.... -from a tribune article ...which is where the whole want for a 2nd TE comes from. I've backpedaled on the whole Ebron pick thing because he's not a inline TE who would complement Bennett, who's not a great blocker. Butdepending on who's there ( As far as a speedy slot guy goes, I just don't think thats a big need in a WCO. I think Trestman really likes to use his big guys in the slot to try and create a mismatch. As for center, I really think the Bears are high on Boggs and see him as the center of the future. As far as CB goes, I'm kinda mixed here. I understand the thought behind taking a CB early, but I think they wait until the 3-4 round range and take a guy like Walt Aikens who could use some seasoning under the wings of Tillman/Jennings. That's just how I view things.

Ya, I searched for the the article on it....I think he'll he fine. Season is still months away
-
Ya, here's the quote.... “Where Jon has struggled this year is in terms of being in the middle is the instantaneous in terms of read and react and searching through blocks in flow,” GM Phil Emery said. “He can improve dramatically in that going into his second season. I just said that from his skill set, some day — that may not be this year, it may be in the future — might be best on the outside to take advantage of the skill sets that he has. The bold part tells me he's not just competing at SLB. He never closed the door on MLB at all.
-
Lame...He was cleared to play months ago, and now there's speculation he might not be ready for the season??dafuc??
-
Where are you hearing this? I'm not a fan of any of the LBs this year,...If I had to take someone it'd be Christian Jones in the 3rd.
-
There hasn't been any indication on who/what they'll draft whatsoever, there never is....There has kinda been indication that they might wait with the whole "Conte will compete for the job comment". I've been saying all offseason that I think they will/can wait on S so ya I'm actually kinda with you on that, but not DT. DT is a spot I'd be ok with "reaching" to grab vs going BPA. And what I mean by that(assuming Donald is gone) is right now Nix is being projected in the 20-30 range, Timmy Jernigan is being talked about as a late 1st early 2nd round pick, same with Hageman, none of those guys would be BPA, but I'd still probably draft any of them over a guy who might be the BPA. As for the whole LB talks...I just can't imagine they don't give Bostic another shot with a better D around him....That shot MAY be at SAM, but I'd be a little shocked if he was on the bench. As I said in the other thread he was apparently really good in coverage, and that's huge, lets get some guys that can actually stop/slow down the run in front of him and see where he's at then.
-
I have absolutely no problem with them back loading contracts, when you consider how much cap room they have next year and with the league cap continuing to go up the next few years it makes a ton of sense. The big contract that they didn't back load is Cutlers who's is heavily front loaded. Also the Allen contract, if they release him before year 3 there would be no dead money.
-
Ya it should have said "I dont mean to nitpick but.." He knows what I mean though.
-
Not to nit pick but I think it could use a border
-
The PFF guy on soxtalk just posted that Bostic had the best pass defense rating of any MLB in the NFL....."Best since vintage Urlacher" When playing cover 2 that's a real important thing you need in an MLB.
