Just because Houston can and probably will move inside on passing downs doesn't mean we can trot out question marks in Ratliff and Paea for running downs. It's nice we got a pass rush, and adding Houston really helps the run defense, but he alone doesn't fix that. The only way I'm taking "BPA" not named Aaron Donald or Haha Clinton Dix is if they can't trade down....And even then I'd still probably go Jernigan/Nix/Hageman who wouldn't be BPA.

If overthecap(OTC) has their numbers right I really like his deal. It's just 3M this year, which leaves the the Bears with close to 8M left in cap space. Next year it goes up to 12.5, which with all the cap room they have that isn't that big a problem. Again, if OTC numbers are correct, and the salary cap goes up to 140 next year the Bears still have 43 mill in cap space for 2015. Then in the last 2 years the cap number is 8.5 and 8 BUT... he can be released with full cap savings both years. So basically it's a 2 year 15.5 million dollar deal with an 8.5 million dollar option in 2016 and an 8 million dollar option in 2017.

I really don't get why signing Allen all of a sudden makes us able to go BPA? Nothing has changed at DT/FS. Maybe if we signed Clemons instead of Allen that could be something you could say, but signing another DE didn't change anything from Tuesday till now. The way I see it is 2 days ago we possibly needed to draft a DE in the 3/4 round (IMO), and today we don't. DT is still a huge need that you can't ignore to take a BPA. Right now, for me, it's Donald/HaHa or trade down. If they can't trade down then I might think about an OT or CB (I changed my tune on Ebron just because he can't block, we don't need a WR, I want an inline guy).
-
Houston is only gonna be moving inside on passing downs (if that). Unless you're comfortable starting Ratliff and Paea, a starting DT is a must. Ratliff/Paea MIGHT not be that bad, but it also might not be that good.
-
I tend to disagree, maybe not the fans, but I haven't found a single expert not like what Phil had done even before the Allen signing.I think Allen is just the cherry on top (assuming they draft well). As I stated in another thread I'd love to see the bears do hard knocks, and I wish it already started with footage of what all these guys have been doing already down in Florida.
-
I do agree that it sounds a little crazy, but that's what I heard. His highlights look pretty darn good. I'm def not disagreeing with the thought of drafting a TE early, I was just disagreeing with the last line of your last post. Signing Allen doesn't change the needs at DT?FS. As for who's the best, I agree that's probably still Briggs, but I really think Houston is gonna give him a run for his money.
-
I know I was a supporter of a TE, but signing Allen changed nothing about DT/FS.....But if HaHa and Donald are gone and they can't trade down, that's where I start to consider Ebron....Who some scouts have said might be the best TE in the league right off the bat.

Or AJ Pierzynski for the sox fans on board.

Pretty sure he means "bum" OTs not QBs. That's why I suggested they line him up against RTs

I found this article rather interesting. Really shows you just how good Donald was at getting in the backfield, and how Jernigan should be looked at as more of run stuffer than a 3 tech. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/4665...k-dt-metrics-10 With Houston potentially, or perhaps likely, moving inside on passing downs I wouldn't totally be against taking Jernigan, but I still would love Donald. Wish they would have analysed more.

My cousin is a Vikings fan and he had this to say... "Allen is an above average pass rusher who has made his money as a bum killer. He'll get 8 sacks in 3 games over the course of the season and 4 or 5 in the other 13" That tells me they should line him up against RTs and let him feast against the lesser tackles of the league.
-
Ya, he's kinda the other end of the spectrum on my whole sacks aren't everything argument. Still though I look at it this way. Houston is a big upgrade over Peppers, Allen is a big upgrade over Wootton, and Young is a HUGE upgrade over SMC. Playing less snaps (and playing with a lead a lot more often) should only help a guy like him. I think we'd be better off with Young as the starter, but I can imagine they give the vet that job.

I really hope they're the team. I wish they were filming already down in Florida with all the guys training down there. I love all the stuff they're doing down there as a team. Marshall has been posting pictures every now and then of the big ol group down there. They went go cart racing yesterday, Marshall posted a picture of the racing leader board and it showed he, Cutler, Forte, Wilson, Houston, Collins, Greene, Bass, Bostic, Paea, and Chris Williams were all there. He also posted a picture of a ton of guys paintballing. Garza has tweeted out pictures of the line sans Slausson all working out together as well. I absolutely love the comradery that I've seen from these guys this offseason. I can't remember a time in all my years being a Bears fan seeing so many guys sticking together in the offseason. Maybe it's just that I haven't been following twitter as much as I have this year?? Joe Kim is also an interesting angle. I'm really intrigued about seeing him at work with his whole martial arts thing.

I do tend to agree, and do doubt they actually do it. I know you still want Haha and I still want Donald. But lets say both are gone and they can't find a trade partner, where do you go from there? OT is a strong possibility and I suppose CB is as well(I'm fine with waiting on a CB till the mid rounds this year), but I wouldn't hate to see a TE in this scenario. If Trestman DOES want another premier TE, and they CAN trade down (hypothetically with the 9ers and getting their 2R pick) I'd love to see.... 1R(30)- Nix/Jernigan/Tuitt- Looking at WF Nix was taken at 29 but Jernigan and Tuitt are still there. With the thought that Houston will be moved inside on passing downs I'm ok with taking a guy like Nix or Jernigan who might not be great pass rushers. 2R(51)- Deone Buccanon/Keith McGill/Lamarcus Joyner/Terrance Brooks- I want the FS to have good cover skills, the last 3 have CB experience. McGill might not wanna convert back to safety, and Joyner might be viewed as too small, but Brooks should be a solid fit. Deone might not be as good in coverage but he's showed last year that h's certainly capable. 2R(56 0r 61)- Austin Seferian-Jenkins- Along with being a good receiver he's also said to be a real good blocker, something that Bennett is not. In 2 TE packages they could put Jenkins in line, and Bennett spread out wide.
-
On paper it would be but we just don't know what Trestman wants in his offense. If they take a TE in the first few rounds it's with the intentions of using a lot of2 TE sets. They wouldn't take a guy like Ebron to be the backup TE who rarely plays. They could potentially use the ace formation (2WR/2TE/1RB) as their base offense meaning Ebron would be out there a ton. I agree that they should still go with a FS and a DT in the first 2 rounds though, unless they like guys who they KNOW they'll be able to grab later on.
-
Still gonna be real interesting to see what the cap hit is. Peppers got a 3/30 deal and his first year cap # is only 3.5, it'd be real nice if Allens is around the same or less in year 1. That would then allow them to PERHAPS make a play on Clemons(the longer he waits to sign the less money he's gonna get) while also still being able to grab a vet min guy or 2.
-
It's gonna be real interesting to see. I'm sure Phil will have a presser after this type of move and we might hear more about just that. I'm gonna guess no, but have nothing to really base that on other than how highly they talked about Houston as a DE. Jared hasn't been that good against the run the past few years so I'd like to have him as a situational pass rusher, but then I think maybe they can just throw him on the left side. That puts Briggs, who is good against the run, behind him which would certainly help him against the run. I kinda doubt Allen wants to be that situational guy so I'm gonna guess Young is that guy. One things I will bank on is that we will no doubt see Houston moved inside on passing downs. Allen-Houston-Ratliff-Young sounds sexy as funk. What could be even sexier is Allen-Houston-Donald-Young. I just salivate at the thought of that.
-
Well hot damn. I for one was cool with Houston/Young as our starters, but I can't deny that the DL just got a whole sweeter! Just read that the deal can be voided after year 3 which really makes this a 3/24 deal, which is a real good deal. The 4 years scared me a bit because his age is bound to show in a couple of years. With the cap going up, and all the cap space we'll have next year and and beyond even if his age shows the contract won't hurt that much at all. It's gonna be reallly interesting to see how the rotation is set up next year.

Just a little meat/sandwich combo type deal. Making thick cuts of different kinds of meats and offering the customer the option of having it on bread with fries or on it's own with "classier" sides.
-
I'm not so sure it's as much Cutler getting his way as it is Trestman...Though I really have nothing to base that on. If they went out and grabbed Clemons and Sims/Williams/Carrington....I'd have absolutely no problem drafting yet another weapon. I'd absolutely freak out if they drafted Ebron in the first. I heard that some scouts think he can be the best TE in the league right away. How in gods name do you defend against a ace formation with Marshall/Jeffery/Bennett/Ebron and Forte coming out of the backfield? Perhaps better yet how do you defend against a 5 wide formation of Marshall/Jeffery/Bennett/Ebron/Wilson.
-
I'll definitely keep that in mind! Right now I'm just taking some business classes online, then I've got a summer job lined up for late May, gonna use that money I make to take a 3 week truck driving course (Where the hell has Twig been?), save up money doing that and hope to open a little restaurant in a few years.....Somewhere along the way I should have the money to take a little trip out there.
-
I actually play rugby for a local team. It's on my bucket list to take a trip out to New Zealand to see the All Blacks, but I wouldn't mind also heading out to Leicester one of these day....I've been strapped for cash for awhile now, send me the money and I'll be on the next plane out there jk Back to football though, ya, Cutler didn't have to agree to it, NYC is right.
-
Depending on what we do this year with DT, I'd be all over Fairley if he hits the market next year. Next year should be a lot of fun FA wise with so much money to work with
-
lol thats the same problem I was having, it's tough to take a picture that size and bring it down to such odd dimensions. I think you might be able to get away with zooming out on the picture a bit, then take a screen shot of it, and open it in another document. That might make it easier to work with
-
I'm not saying bigger is necessarily better, I just think Trestman prefers bigger in his offense. In the overall scheme of things, league wide, I'm sure not every coach will agree.
