  1. I'm kinda right there with you...If my thought is a thought the Bears are having though I wouldn't hate it at all to see them trade down to grab Hageman or Tuitt. It would set up quite the interesting D.
  2. I'm not so sure that's a good idea. I don't think Bostic would offer much of anything with his hand in the dirt. Teams could probably block him with a TE. I think you gotta keep him at LB and let his speed play out. I can certainly still see SMC line up with his hand in the dirt from time to time. Even if they don't use any 3-4 packages it wouldn't shock me to see a Young-Houston-Ratliff-SMC front 4 in nickle packages (2 LBs).
  3. I had what I thought was a pretty interesting thought while I was over at my buddies. He brought the topic of the hybrid D and the whole giving Ds different looks like that has been talked about all offseason. I know the Bears have said they are keeping the 4-3, but I don't know if that completely rules out some 3-4 sub packages. Seattle is a 4-3 team but they also had some 3-4 packages. I wonder if the Bears might do some of the same. I thought up of a scenario where the Bears draft a guy like Hageman or Tuitt to be the the 3T in 4-3 formations. That would then set up a possible 3-4 setup of Hageman-Ratliff-Houston as your 3 down lineman and they kick back Young to OLB and move Briggs inside to go with Young-Briggs-Bostic/Williams-SMC as your LBs. I really think that unit could be pretty good at rushing the passer with Young and SMC rushing the passer from out wide in a stand up position. Something to ponder.
  4. Well right now I'm taken some online classes so ya I'm around the laptop A LOT. Even when I'm doin other shit around the house I'll take the laptop with me. Rugby starts up soon though so I'll be gone a lot....ya'll are gonna miss me
  5. Ya, I can't remember welcoming any new guys to the board. It's kinda strange consider I also frequent soxtalk and they get a new guy once every few weeks it seems. They have over 5K users! That's crazy. I think that's why we get a lot of "feuds" here because it's kinda more "personal" with less people.
  6. This is the Bennett Bros recruiting ordeal all over again lol.
  7. They might be able to grab Allen and Clemons. Or they could grab on and a few vet mins. lol some people gonna see my old post which is completely different from this post.
  8. Damn I leave the house during the day for the first time in a week and they drop this bombshell?? I need to leave more often! I'm at a friends right now so I can't elaborate as much, but I'm intrigued. Allen?? Clemons?? Anthony Spencer(meh)?? or it could just be to sign a few lesser guys like Pat Sims, maybe a guy like Andre Brown, maybe a nickle corner, or a backup qb....could probably snag 3 of those types of players.
  9. Ya, so much for making his decison by the weekend. There was a rumor awhile ago, but Biggs said it was false, I get the feeling we're not and I'm ok with that.
  10. I would too, but Devin Hester is not Wes Welker or Danny Amendola. Hixon, when he played, was reliable. He managed to rack up 567 yards in 2012 while playing behind the 4th option behind Cruz/Nicks/Martellus Bennett. In Hesters good year he was higher on the depth chart. This isn't really a worth wild argument here so I'm just gonna let it go....We're comparing the Bears 6th option to a guy who is no longer on the team. No need to put a lot of effort into this. Let's just call it a difference of opinions and let it go.
  11. If Trestman wanted to utilize him in the offense he would have done so last year. I think Trestman would rather see Terrance Toliver as the #5 . I just don't think a "burner" is necessary in the WCO Trestman runs.
  12. Just speaking in terms of this offense...I just don't think Trestman wants shorter WRs, thus Hixon is a better fit at 6'2"....in my opinion anyway.

He's actually contemplating retirement. Still on a 1 year deal with Dallas, haven't read about them releasing him, just retirement talks. Grossman, David Garrard, Kevin Kolb, Colt McCoy, Matt Flynn, and Josh Freeman are all intriguing options. Then there's of course McCown who's still out there.
  14. That's his APY (Average per year) not the cap hit. http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Julius%...mp;Team=Packers First year cap hit is 3.5 then it goes up to 12, then 10. But the pack can release him next year and they'll only owe him 5M in dead money. With all the money the Bears have next year I'd do that type of deal for Allen. If he starts to show his old age then 5m in dead money won't cripple them that much at all.
  15. NFL trade rumors has him ranked as the 15th best FA...of all the players left. Ihedigbo strong PFF rank was all from his run defense grade, which was really good. He was worse in coverage than Mundy, who also got less PT to improve his overall grade. I really think pairing the 2 (Mundy and Ihedigbo) would be a mistake. I think we need to pair Mundy (or perhaps Ihedigbo, if the rumor carries some weight) with a safety who's good in coverage.....Esp. if we run a lot of zone coverage which is pretty much a lock.
  16. I kinda doubt we're in on Ihedigbo, might chart that one up as a myth. He and Mundy are virtually the same player, strong run defenders who struggle in pass defense. And FWIW, Matt Miller has him ranked 69th of 75 safeties, Mundy's ranked 26th. (MD Jennings ranked 57th) I suppose he could be depth/competition for Ryan though.
  17. Oops, double post. I guess I'll throw out there that that a 2/20 deal wouldn't necessarily mean 10 mill in cap space. If it's like the 3/30 deal Pep got his cap hit is only 3.5 this year.
  18. Seattle still has a significant amount of $$ this year, last I checked around 15 mill.....Sure is nice to have your star QB and your star CB only count for 2.2 mill against the cap combined.

I think he'd be a good signing to be honest. He's never really been surrounded by the talent he'd have here. I think if you paired him with Marshall/AJ/Bennett vs guys like Santonio Holmes and Jericho Cotchery he'd be an above average backup. I know the 2009/2010 Jets were built on D, but you gotta like the fact that he got them 4 post season wins in those 2 years. He had a 94.3 passer rating over those 6 games in the playoffs.
  20. I really think we'll only draft a FS, at least fairly high. I think SS is Ryan Mundys job to lose and I'm cool with that, think he'll be solid there. They might take a guy in the later rounds to compete with him but I'd be a little surprised if we took 2 safeties before round 5. As far as FS goes, I agree with you on the line about not wanting to take 1 in the first. If what Phil said about Conte competing for his job is true then I don't expect them to take a 1R safety. I really like Brooks and Reynolds in the 2R, one of those guys should no doubt be there. I also wonder if the Bears might take a guy like McGill in the 2nd and convert him back into a FS. Another thing I kinda wonder about is if the Bears are really in on Allen, if they miss out on him do they turn their attention to Clemons? It's still kinda surprises me that he's still out there.
  21. Ya, 6.6 is what I'm seeing on overthecap....That 5.5 number is the total money or whatever, the cap hit needed for the draft is around 2. I do agree with you though, I'd rather not backload his contract, I just pointed it out as a possibility. I'm content with just adding a DE in the 3rd or 4th round and just go at it with the guys we have. Next year as you said we should be big time players. If Young isn't the starter I expect him to be then they might have a chance at Hardy or Avril next year.

I like it.... This wipersnapper has a question though... Who's the 2nd and last guy....I'm sure I'll know the name when you say it, just don't recognize the pictures. Others are Ditka, Halas, Sweetness, Butkus, and Sayers right??
  23. Ya, the whole Suh Fairly thing is a factor, but again, this guy wasn't being going up against TEs and RBs, teams still have to put a OT on him. So no he wasn't being double teamed because of the presence of those 2 monsters in the middle, but chances are he won't be double teamed in Chicago either. I've probably said it before but I really think the lack of sacks had to do with their awful secondary. There's a reason why those guys are gonna be most likely drafting a CB in the first. I've also read that they'll try to grab a nickel QB as well....Can't sack the QB if WRs are getting open early and often. You have to be at least a little impressed that he had the 3rd most pressures of ANY 4-3 DE last year....Just a couple behind Greg Hardy who happened to play more snaps. I'm callin it now, he'll have at least 7 sacks. We wouldn't necessarily be dipping into Cutlers contract if he gets a deal like Peppers where his cap hit is only 3.5mill in year 1. Bears have the money to do that and they have plenty of future money to backload if need be.
  24. Sure would be nice if David Bass can be viewed as a quality starting DE and be the disruptive player Young was last year. I think he's certainly capable.
  25. Thought I'd share this so others can share in the enjoyment.... Tyron Smith was the 9th overall pick a few years ago and a pro bowler last year....Young made him look like....dare I say it....J'Marcus Webb. This dude is gonna surprise a lot of folks here.
