Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears 53m Bears, McManis agree to one-year deal http://es.pn/Nu1xMc As a Northwestern fan I'm glad to see him back, think he has the talent to be more than just a ST player. They're 5 deep at CB right now, still wouldn't mind one more added in the mid rounds, perhaps Walt Aikens who the Bears have had a meeting with.
-
Yaaaaaa, good luck with that.
-
Interesting take. It certainly would be nice if they can trade down, still get Donald, AND pick up another 2nd or 3rd rounder. In the end though I think I'd rather have Melton and HHCD/Pryor over Donald and an added 2nd or 3rd rounder.
-
That'd be incredible, did you use the optimal scouting big board or something like that? I did one the other day and came away with Donald AND Jernigan! Houston-Donald-Jernigan-Young would be incredible. Houston-Donald-Ratliff-Young/Ealy sounds equally sexy....Or maybe they sign Sims, who can play the 1 or the 3, and go with Houston-Donald-Sims-Young/Ealy. I too am addicted to that site, everytime the Bears make a move I go back and do another draft.
-
That would be very very interesting, and it's another thing I brought up last year. If they go out and grab Pat Sims or Chris Clemons (the safety) then they'd only have 1 clear cut need going into the draft (whichever position they don't sign) so I wouldn't hate to see them address that need in the first round then grab a guy like Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Jace Amaro, or Troy Niklas in the 2nd or perhaps more realistically a guy like CJ Fiedeorowicz in the 3/4 round. All would make the offense borderline unstoppable.

IMO Houston/Young/Izzy is an upgrade to Peppers/SMC/Wootton. There's a reason why Houston is ranked the 10th overall FA and Peppers is ranked 54th on PFTs top 101 list. Young vs Wootton is toss up since the whole playing on the line with the best DT duo argument is legit. I'll take Izzy over SMC all day as well. All the guys will benefit from working with Joe Kim as well. As you said the run defense should be miles ahead of where it was last year as well. One things for sure is that it was gonna take more than a year regardless, and next year they'll have big bucks to throw around. If Young doesn't work out then perhaps we will have another shot at Greg Hardy next year, or maybe take a shot at Cliff Avril.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of making Houston a full time 3-tech DT, I can't imagine that being the plan though...Would be be interesting nevertheless
-
Ya those 2 are the least likely of the ones I listed. Depending on how the draft shakes out There should be a real good chance that Donald is there, but the hype he's been getting it wouldn't surprise me if he's gone. If he's gone I might consider trading down or going with Dix/Pryor then taking a guy like Dom Easley who I think would help more than Jernigan. BTW last 2 mocks on CBs have Jernigan as the 32nd pick in one and a 2nd round pick in another. If they do trade down I'd love to get Jernigan AND Easley.
-
I've seen a few mocks have the Giants drafting him to replace Linval Joesph, I've seen a few having the Rams take him (they had Melton in for a visit), and I've seen a few having the Titans(paper thin at DT) taking him. I think all of those, and perhaps the Vikings like you stated are all possibilities. If he slips past those teams I think he's a lock for the Bears. Report is Melton was only looking for 4 mill which is less than I expected.

Henry Melton @HenMel 5m Thank you chicago for the best 5 years of my life!.... I can't wait to begin the next chapter of my life... With a star on my helmet. Well damn. I still like the idea of bringing in Pat Sims. He's not quite the penetrater Melton is but he is capable of pushing the pocket and he's solid against the run. If they don't sign a guy I'm really hoping Donald falls. Jerrnigan would be nice but we need a guy who's gonna get after the QB.

Listen man I don't dislike you whatsoever, this is a message board, life is too short to dislike someone you don't even know....If I disliked you I would have blocked you long ago, or at the very least I wouldn't respond to your posts. In this thread were having a nice little argument, then you had to make the little "it's ok to be wrong" comment which is silly considering no one knows what's going on with Melton right now. I'm not wrong and nor are you. You should be able to tell by the na na nu boo boo comment that I was being sarcastic. People disagree with me pretty regularly here, I'll never tell em that they're straight up wrong. I'll just throw out my opinion and carry on. And again, about the misspellings, I don't care if people are misspelling the word "it", the only thing that bothers me the RatCliffs and the TRuitts. It's just how I get on my buddy for calling Kyle Korver Kyle Kulver. We watched him play and heard his names many a times to know there's no L in his name so it just grinds my gears. The avatar thing didn't/doesn't bother me, though I'm more of a tits man myself lol. So with that all said if you don't like me then please, do yourself a favor and block me, because I'm not going anywhere. Last year I was in a bad place and didn't have time for the BS of arguing, this year life is good and I'm not gonna let some petty online "feud" get in my way. If you feel the need to talk this over further dend me a personal message so we can get get back to football. Cheers mate.

Gotcha, just clarifying. I'm still gonna keep hoping for 1 of Melton, Sims, Carrington, or Williams until they're all gone.
-
The wink at the end meant it was all sarcasm(people don't like my lol=sarcasm)....At least hopefully that ends up being sarcasm
-
craig steltz and danny mccray obviously
-
All filler no killer. McCray is a good ST player though.
-
Don't count put Ford either who looked good returning kicks in pre season. Between Hixon, Williams, and Ford (perhaps another name gets added to the mix) I think the return game will be fine
-
nothing official yet but I'm sure it will be soon
-
Bears didn't use a lot of 3 WR sets last year so Earl, who I believe was healthy all year just never got the reps, letting him go for the much cheaper Wilson just makes too much sense. I remember talking about how Marc never really utilized a 3rd WR back in the day either, he held true to that last year.
-
The Izzy signing is unrelated to whether or not Melton comes back IMO. Izzy is a vet min player so unless the difference in signing him and not signing him is 500k then the signing won't make much of a difference. I still think we sign either Melton, Pat Sims, Alex Carrington, or Kevin Williams.
-
Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears 4m Filed to http://ESPNChicago.com : #Bears WR Earl Bennett declines pay cut and is expected to be released, per sources. So maybe they do cut Weems AND Bennett after all. Would give them money for a DT.
-
In case you missed it, Houston said he was playing around 275 last year.....I always wonder if players listed weights on sites like espn ever even change.
-
Agreed, I'd be a little surprised if they don't grab one of Melton, Williams, Pat Sims, or Alex Carrington.
-
I don't know if it's correct, but overthecap.com says the Bears need a little over 2M in cap space for the draft. They don't have Tillmans cap number up yet, but 5M sounds about right. I doubt they do it, but if they need money they can dump Weems AND Bennett (replaced by Chris Williams and Hixon) to free up 3.5 mill. That gives em ~8.5 mill. If they really only need 2 mill for the draft maybe they can give Melton a 1 year 5 mill dollar contract that would still fit in the budget.
-
I think Izzy gets another vet min contract. Hopefully it's an unrelated move. Probably means no Wootton though.
-
330 snaps. So he could be somewhat fresh so to speak. I read somewhere that he was just asked to stop the run in Detroit He'd be nice depth and gives the Bears another DE who's real good against the run and has the versatility to play inside and out.
