I tend to agree actually. There's just no need to make it personal. When you go off and say you hate a person, which is quite comical to hate someone on a board, that's when shit gets stupid. I don't think he's a douche, I appreciate his opinion. Everything here is just an opinion, nobody is wrong because their views are different. All were doing is defending that opinion when we disagree.
-
I'm a hot head, I don't like the name calling because I just have to respond to it and then the situation turns into what we have now. I left the board because all I was doing was responding to overblown arguments that were not needed. I keep trying to bury the hatchet with this guy, but he keeps insisting on arguing like a married couple (hence the hilarious posts by grizzly). Like I said last year, don't start no shit won't be no shit.

Money is a factor yes but Im saying it might not be the only thing. His agent said this just a few days ago. "We have recently reviewed the lawsuit, and do not believe the validity of the allegations made. We look forward to providing the true facts in court, and will defend this matter vigorously. We will seek and hold the Chill and other accountable for any and all damages Henry has suffered at the hands of multiple men who attacked him." You don't think teams wanna do a bit more research?.
-
You don't think things are a little different now that 3 months later Melton is the one being sued. I won't pretend to know what happened, nor do I care, but there's obviously a new wrinkle to the story now. Could it just be the injury concerns?? Very possible, I can't discard that possibility. Nor can I discard the possibility that he's asking for too much money. And I'm not sure you can discard this new wrinkle to the story either.

The bar incident got a new twist recently with the news they're trying to sue him. Before recently it was the other way around with Melton supposedly suing them.

As for signing Melton and drafting Donald, I'm just no so sure about that. Melton isn't that good against the run, and I can see the same thing with Donald. I'd prefer to pair one of them with a run stuffing DT. Pairing Melton and Jernigan would be fantastic if the Bears don't think Paea/Ratliff are fits at the 1T(NT). As for Young, the way I see it is he won't be seeing double teams here either. PFF actually liked him much more as a DT than at DE. He ranked 45th of 52 DEs who played at least 25% of their teams snaps at that position. He only had 1 sack, 1 hit, and 6 hurries in 327 snaps. At DT he ranked 35th of 69, with 2 sacks, 3 hits, and 19 hurries in 523 snaps.....Certainly not great, but he was actually better there than at DE. Houston and Young rated as the 11th and 16th respectively.

I think teams are just trying to find as much as they can about the whole lawsuit thing before they offer up a contract......wouldn't surprise me if it's another week or 2 (or longer) before he signs..
-
You guys are crazy, Melton has had 2 years as a full time starter. 1 year he was a pro bowler, and the other he had the 3rd most sacks of any DT in the league. Melton is your prototype 3T.
-
Jernigan is a 4-3 NT, not a 3T. He might have the ability to play there but dude is more of a run stuffer. I'd say the same for Ratliff, he's capable of playing the 3, but I'd rather see him at NT. I don't expect us to grab Donald and Melton. I'm hoping it's either or. And by hoping I mean I hope if they can't sign Melton that Donald will be there in the draft. Young is a starting caliber player, I promise you that. Also FWIW, PFF has hated Wootton as a DE the last 2 years.

I didn't make it up, but I think it was made up by a fan perhaps?? Here's his website..... http://www.kimsmartialartsavon.com/about-u...kims-nfl-career .....If you go down to the "Grandmaster Kim in the media" section you'll find a lot of good articles on him. One is titled Joe Kim "The Pass Rush Guru" is in town, but when you click on it it's from an SB Nation site. Still though they claim "He's an NFL consultant known as "The Pass Rush Guru"" so I guess he's the only guy not saying it. I've read a few of those articles and I think dude is more than just a gimmick, I think he'll help.

Look out for Seattle, the rich may get richer. EDIT---- about a minute later.... Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 42s Meanwhile, #Seahawks and DT Henry Melton are deep in negotiations tonight, per source. We’ll see if he makes it to Dallas for his visit
-
Ya, I normally list him, just forgot about him this time. I always refer to them as fringe guys, meaning they're right on the edge of being serviceable rotational pieces and being merely "JAGS" (just another guy). I'm not sure I can stress Joe Kim enough, he could be huge for some of these guys. Our "QB guru" helped, let's see what the "Pass rush guru" can do.
-
Eh....The Rams had Quinn, 2nd in the league i sacks, AND Long and they were still a middle of the pack D(15th). Indy had Mathis, the sack leader, and they were 22nd overall. Buffalo had the 2nd most sacks in the league, yet they were just the 18th ranked D. Remember we have the "pass rush guru" Joe Kim, so not only could Houston/Young take another step forward but so could the fringe guys. II wouldn't hate to see Kareem Martin in the 2nd though.

I'm getting a feeling that there's a chance Donald won't be there. I've seen drafts where he's been taken 11th, 12th, and 13th, so apparently he's an option to the 3 teams ahead of us....That's why I've been pulling so hard for Melton. If we can't get Melton, and Donald isn't there, I get the feeling that Dom Easley might be the 2nd best pass rushing DT. In that case I wouldn't mind trading down and "reaching" for him. I put reaching in quotations because I don't think he'd really be a reach but when you look at some mock drafts he would be. Mayock or someone like him had the Bears taking him in the first awhile back, but that's the only time I've seen him in the first. Also I totaled together all the sacks/QB hits/hurries for Houston and Young then compared them with Peppers/Wootton/SMC/Bass Our quartet of DEs last year had 15 sacks, 16 qb hits, and 64 hurries for a total of 95 times in the pocket. Our new duo had 10 sacks, 24 qb hits, and 89 hurries for a total of 123 times in the pocket. I wouldn't be surprise me if both guys had 2 more sacks next year to bring that total to 14 sacks.....Throw in a a couple rotational guys, whether that be Bass, Lane, Scott, Ozougwu, or a rookie, and I get the feeling we'll get a lot more production, sacks included, out of our DEs next year.
-
Nothing is what it seems on paper. These guys will be fine rushing the passer. "Pressure is production". DE will not be our greatest need, we're talking about a 3-4 here tops. What we should be worrying about is pressure up the gut. Last year we had 6 sacks from our DT position. The year before Melton alone had 6, 14 as a whole. Had we got those 8 more from the interior we had in 2012 they would have been 17th in the league.

Agreed, Houston had 16 hits on the QB, 7th most in the NFL. Getting a legal hit on the QB means it had to of happened within mere seconds of the QB releasing the ball. If coverage was tighter on even just 1/3rd of those QB hits were talking about a guy with 11 or 12 sacks. I've got a feeling Houston will be closer to 10 sacks than 6 next year. He also gives them the same versatility Bennett would have gave us, and that's the ability to play inside on obvious passing downs. Say we get Melton back and we draft a DE or one of our DEs emerge under Joe Kim, I'd love to se ?-Houston-Melton-Young in passing situations.
-
I had forgotten about that. I was just putting 2 and 2 together with what Marc wanted and who was out there. Started to really like the idea since I know he's a good pass catcher as well. Andre Brown is also on that list, is a solid pass catcher, and is only 27.
-
I of course agree with them, think they'll end up being great moves. Thanks for posting this BTW, I had not seen it.

A backup RB is an obvious need now. I'm cool with finding one in the draft, esp. since teams typically don't draft RBs high and they should be able to find good value in the 4th or 5th round. BUT.... What if Melton is a goner and there's just no one else worth spending money on? With Forte's shaky injury history, and the big role he plays in the offense, I wouldn't hate to see the Bears pay a decent chunk of change to a guy who could be a really good fit. Recently Phil Emery stated the No. 1 quality he's looking for in a No. 2 running back is that he can pass protect. That prompted me over to my pals at PFF who actually keep track of that sort of thing. The top pass blocking back just so happens to be a free agent right now, and his market is pretty dry. He's also a really good pass catcher which is a plus in this system as well. "What Maurice Jones-Drew has done in pass protection this season has been nothing short of amazing. Listed at 5-foot-7 and 210 pounds, Jones-Drew gives up five inches and 30 pounds to almost every linebacker he takes on. Fred Jackson holds our half back record for most pass blocking snaps without a pressure for a single with 83 back in 2011. Jones-Drew has already surpassed that total and if he can stay clean through the last three games he’ll put up an almost untouchable record." MJD seems like he'd be a perfect fit here. Not being the primary back might also help squeeze a little more life out of him If they have the money, with nothing to spend it on, I'd loves me some "Pocket Hercules"

Ha, I hope everyone sees the sarcasm here.

Houston racked up 41 hurries and 16 QB hits vs Peppers who had 27 and 6. Are you telling me Peppers was the more productive pass rusher because he finished the job 1 more time than Houston? Here’s what really gets me about the sack stat. You’re judging a player by what he does on a small percentage of his plays, and using that small percentage to assume a whole lot about the rest of his game Yes Peppers had 1 more sack than Houston....But sans those 7 plays where he took down to the QB, what'd he do? Would you rather have the guy with 7 sacks who put less pressure on the QB or the guy with 6 sacks who put more pressure on the QB? Personally, I'll take that guy who's causing more problems. You can put Willie Young in this category, Young had 48. Example. Peyton Manning was only sacked once in the Super Bowl, but my god did the pressure they put on Manning make a HUGE difference. Hell, Peppers himself once said sacks are overrated. "Sacks are overrated," said Peppers, echoing Blache's belief. "People are going to look at that stat line and say that's what they're going to measure people by. Especially a defensive end. But a hurry, or if you get a quarterback to throw an interception, those types of things are worth more than a sack."

Ha, happened while I was prepping dinner.... I came back and saw I had like 30 new tweets on twitter and thought alright this has to be some Bears news. Was hoping for Melton but I guess I'm cool with Tillman.
