  1. Yup, he's a Bear. I expect Weems or Bennett to be released soon.
  2. At 3 years 9 mill for Young I wouldn't be surprised to see yet another DE brought in to rotate. Think Young is no doubt the starter though. All reports say he's a capable pass rusher desite the low number of sacks. 56 QBPs is 41 more than Peppers. He's real solid against the run as well so one things for sure the Bears run defense should look A LOT better. Also as far as an overall grade Willie Young had a +7.0, Peppers? -4.4. (Houston +11.4)
  3. Walterfootball loves the move. Bears sign DE Willie Young (3 years, $9M; $3.95M guaranteed): A- Grade The Bears may have lost Julius Peppers, but they strengthened the defensive end position this offseason by acquiring Lamarr Houston and Willie Young. Young had just three sacks in 2013, but that's not nearly indicative of how frequently he rushed the quarterback. Young is capable of applying a heavy pass rush, and he also happens to be solid in run support. This is a very good signing for the Bears, and the cherry on top is that they poached a solid player from a divisional rival they could not beat this past season.
  4. Retweeted by Michael C. Wright Tom Pelissero ‏@TomPelissero 2m Willie Young agreed to a 3-year, $9M deal with #Bears that included a $2M signing bonus and $3.95M total guaranteed. I know a few guys here liked him, I wasn't that big a fan, but he's no doubt a starter in this league. It's cheap enough that we could add yet another DE (I want Babin). He's an upgrade over Wootton/SMC so that's a plus. PFF had this to say about him Willie Young, Edge Defender - Took his chance in 2013 to emerge as a starting caliber defensive end, really developing his game into someone you can trust to play more than just a situational role. 9. Willie Young 2013 Grade: +7.0 2013 Snaps: 801 Former first-round draft picks Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley get most of the attention for Detroit’s defensive line, but starting right defensive end Willie Young has also been a factor. A seventh-round pick from 2010, Young earned the third-highest overall grade on that fearsome Lions DL, with only six penalties dragging that grade down. While he only recorded four sacks, he did register another 56 pressures and four batted passes. Unfortunately, like the rest of his team, Young’s production (in terms of pass rushing) dropped as the season wore on. He earned a +6.2 pass-rushing grade in the first nine games, but could only manage a -1.3 in the final seven games. Like Lamarr Houston, teams will be asking about the late-season decrease in production. Ironic that both he and Houston dropped off a bit late in the season....They're both more than capable ends though
  5. Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 4m Following up on @josinaanderson report earlier, source said #Panthers WR Domenik Hixon expected to sign with #Bears tomorrow. Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 3m Hixon signing could actually happen today. Stay tuned.
  6. Yup, people dwell to much on the sack number as the determining factor of who's good or not. Sacks are sexy, but they aren't everything. Plus I can almost guarantee Houstons sack total will be closer to 10 than 6 next year. Oakland had an awful offense and often played from behind....Can't rush the passer when they're running the ball.
  7. Ya, I think he'll be an above average SS. I know PFF is not everything, but he did have a positive grade there, so there's hope. Gotta like the fact he's considered a strong run defender and the 77 tackles in just 10 starts kinda backs that up. It wouldn't surprise me nor disappoint me if he's the starter.
  8. When he had to fill in for Hicks/Cruz he's been reliable.
  9. That's what I expect, at the very least he'll replace Weems, which would free up 1.6m. That's prob more than what Hixon gets. Hixon is underrated. As a #4 (assuming wilson is #3) he'll be stellar.
  10. They signed Vernon so I'm gonna guess no, but I don't think he'll be a Bear either unless the market is really dry for him. Phil likes the CBs in the draft.
  11. I still think they will, there's still a good little list of players available. I'm guessing Melton, after he really tests the market, will still be a Bear and then we get one of the older DEs (starting to like the idea of Jason Babin who I think can still be a damn good pass rusher at a smalish cap hit). Phil likes the CB crop in the draft so I think we'll see our CB there. Mundy I believe is our starting SS. I also don't think Jennings is comp for Conte, we'll get that in the draft. Until Allen/Tuck/Phillips/Babin and Melton/Hatcher are gone I'm not gonna worry about the lack of activity.
  12. I just see all those avatars of his and get all warm inside man, I can't help it....you're lucky I'm not into bestiality
  13. lol ya'll are some goons.
  14. Because I agreed with what some experts said I'm all of a sudden not an "original thinker"? Gotcha.
  15. This a post you made earlier. I agree with this post more than your post in this thread. They have 11 million dollars to spend (I factored out the money for the draft), I'm pretty sure they'll sign more than just a few "valve" guys.
  16. Wasn't a thought that even popped in my head but watching the NFL network there were multiple guys that brought it up and it made a lot of since. I was convinced by "experts" that Revis is just not a need there.
  17. True, but in this case were not competing with a team who's going to be in title contention. I think our main competition is the Cowboys, who just got rid of their best defender and a pretty good WR. I'd rather play in Chicago if I was him.
  18. He needs a thread of his own.... The Vikes, who Melton visited, signed Linval Joseph, so I think that takes them out of the race. I'd say Cowboys are still an option.
  19. To answer your first question...2.4 mill. Which would bring our cap availability # to around 15 mill. I'd guess Smith would cost ~7 or 8m of that. It's possible, and they could still hypothetically dip into Cutlers contract to create more cap room for defensive FAs.
  20. Another thing that hasn't been mentioned that's worth mentioning.....The Raiders are awful, so they were playing behind a lot which means teams were running a lot. Here in Chicago, with our high powered offense, teams will have to throw the ball a lot which means he'll have more opportunities to just pin his ears back and rush the passer. Also, for those comparing his size to some of our bigger DEs of the past, he confirmed in his press conference what rotoworld thought, he was playing around 275 pounds last year.

    Seattle cut

Throw in Jason Babin as a cheap rotational player. Had 30 sacks in 2010/2011. Injury problems the next 2, then 7.5 on a garbage Jags team....Wouldn't mind both Babin and Allen.
  22. 10x better than the shit show we threw out there most of last year....even when everyone was healthy.... Allen vs Pep is a push and Houston>>Wootton.....Also thnk Ratliff is an upgrade over Paea.
  23. @670TheScore: #Bears GM Phil Emery confirms interest in DE Jared Allen. Now the Bears wait for market to settle, writes @AdamHoge: http://t.co/sZjyirql3t
  24. I missed that argument somehow. idk guys, they made a pretty good case on why they didn't need Revis. Tillman was lockdown corner but he wasn't a great m2m corner like Revis. With all the money Tampa has why let go of him?
  25. Possible, last year they had Weems and Costanzo though so I wouldn't be surprised either way.
