Rex Grossman??? Wonder what Trestman thinks of Jerrod Johnson, who was brought back on a futures contract. When word came out last year about the Bears wanting to use some read option looks (which didn't happen) I remember bringing up his name. I actually think he has some talent.
-
I'd give him 8.5 no questions asked honestly. Like I've said in the past throw Bennett his money make a couple moves like what they did with Marty and Bushrod where the 2 combined got around 5M in cap space. That's only 13.5 and I think the Bears will have 20M+ in cap space. I think 7M is plenty to bring in some quality depth. That's 3 FA starters, give me 3 starting rookies, throw in Briggs, Paea, Jennings, Bostic, and SMC/Williams(who prob gets the vet min again) and there's your starting 11.

He's back at it lol Martellus Bennett @MartysaurusRex 29m My Birthday is March 10th I'll wait till March 11th for my gift @mosesbread72 and @ChicagoBears #BennettBears #GoldieLocks

Still think we have the money for Bennett... I doubt he gets paid like a top 5 DE. Looking at the top 5 paid DEs, Chris Long is 5th on that list, in his first year his cap hit was 8.5. Long was a year younger and at least sack wise (which isn't everything) was the more productive player. I think with the cap inflation the Bears can get him for around that same figure, and perhaps a little less.

1. I'm torn here. If they don't bring back Melton I REALLY want Donald, and I don't think he gets past the Cowboys(pick 16 I believe) if they don't take him at 14. I think he can make the biggest impact for this Bears team. 2. I'm torn here as well since I really lone Donald. 3. 5th or 6th round I'd say, a lot of talented QBs in the draft....I guess you can say I'm torn here as well since 5-6 is fringe mid and late round picks. 4. I think he'll be better but maybe not much better. Scouting reports said he was fluid enough in coverage, and speed should be fine. I think he'll be more than competent. Took the "political" way out on all of em lol

Depending on how the Bears see Rosario as a pass catcher I'm on board for bringing in another TE. Of course it shouldn't come at the sacrifice of the D but that should be a given.
-
Fair enough people, I just think he has a ton of talent and if anyone can get it out of him it should be Marc Trestman. HE should be calling the Bears and begging to work with Marc.
-
Call me crazy but if McCown isn't back I'd like to see them take a shot at Josh Freeman and then perhaps take a guy in the 5th or 6th, namely I like Jeff Mathews out of Cornell.

So I was checking out the depth chart and stumbled upon WR Chris Williams...I thought to myself who??? Found out he signed back on December 26th, went back in the archives and found that we barely even talked about this kids signing....Here's the thread http://www.talkbears.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9681 .... He basically got lost in the shuffle here. What I saw when I looked him up pleased me. Dude ran a 4.28 with a 1.44 10 yard split. Dri Archer, a guy who was brought up here ran a 4.26 with a 1.46 10 yard split, so this cat is a bit more explosive. He never caught on in the NFL, so he went to Canada and all he did there was have 6 returns for touchdowns, a CFL record. Could this guy be our next "Canadian sensation"(not canadian, but you know what I mean) and replace Hester as our return man?

Anyone hear anything about his salary? Edit....Michael Wright bets its a vet minimum, which sounds about right.
-
Looking back at his scouting reports, I think it's possible he plays in the middle. He'll apparently get a shot there, but in the end I really think Bostic is our MLB next year. I would just hate to see both Bostic and Greene riding pine a year after they were drafted.
-
They did just resign Boggs, who they seem to really like.
-
Deal only worth 840k, which I believe is the vet minimum, and his cap hit will be 500K.
-
I'm sure they'll dip into it if they get guys agreeing to contracts and they need it. @AdamSchefter Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source Sets up a lot of back loading possibility.

Beat me to it....admins go ahead and merge

Zach Zaidman @ZachZaidman 2m #Bears announce they've signed DB Kelvin Hayden to a one-year deal. I remember bot being a fan of his a year ago, but he has had some "good years" in the past so he's a capable backup. CB depth- Jennings-?-Frey-Hayden.......Still need Tillman or his replacement, and Bowman would be nice as well.
-
If you go back it was really the other way around. Like I posted in some other thread, he was something like the #14 prospect in the whole draft but as an OLB.

Quality depth I reckon.

I guess that's one way to look at it. But right now if they make all the cuts we've been talking about here (Pep, Bush, Weems, Earl, and Podlesh) they'd have at least 26M in cap space. That's before knowing what the league cap will be, before dipping into any of Cutler/Jennings/Slaussons contracts, and before potentially extending Marshall. That tells me they'll have money to sign Bennett (back load it a bit, I'm thinking 6-8M in cap space year 1), and still bring in a few good FAs, esp if they can work out some deals like they did with Martellus and Bushrod last year where they accounted for 5M in cap space combined. Hypothetically lets say they get 2 good starters at 5M again and give Bennett 8M, that's only half the cap space.
-
Thanks.... Honestly, and I know not everyone will agree, I think Bostic should get another chance behind an improved DL. He's gonna get paid too, I think that money would be better spent on said DL.
-
Brad Biggs @BradBiggs 3m #Bears have re-signed C Roberto Garza to a 1-year contract. Garza wasn't bad at all last year, it certainly helped him to have competent guards on both sides of him, so I'm cool with this. With Garza and Boggs re signed I can't imagine they draft a center now. Deal is for 1.5M, not sure if its all cap money or what, I'm sure it will get broke down later

Sourse of who said we were interested? Not sayin you're wrong, just saying I don't see it.

On Donald (He's being talked about in virtually every thread, but I'll throw it in here) Bill Polian "If you play the tampa 2 defense which Dallas does, this is the 3 technique of your dreams. He can get up the field, he's disruptive, he can move, he tackles, and most importantly from the inside position he rushes the passer." Polian, more so than the talking heads like McShay and Kiper, is the guy I like to hear from the most now a days, so this only further elevates my hard on for Donald. I'll say it again, unless we reign Melton, this is the guy I want in round 1.
