I'll obviously take the W but 459 yards to the Steelers who were averaging 240 is a bit alarming. AJ Green and Antonio Brown have torched the Bears for 350 yards this year. I hope Peanuts struggles are just due to injuries and not father time...If he's back I'd like to see him moved to safety to get him around the ball more and to get him off speed guys.

FIRE TRESTMAN!

Lovely 30 seconds of football, both the pack and vikes lose in under a minute

Looks about right, like I said the cap this year is 123M so that's 37M. With some restructuring of some contracts and some cuts that number can probably get upwards of 40. IMO, Jay, Tillman, Jennings, and Wootton are the only must signs. Hester, Gould, and Costanzo are good/great special teams players but I'm not paying them if it means I can't sign the first 4. I don't think Melton will be the same player we saw the first 2 weeks all year but still though I think he'll be the odd man out as far as the big money players go. Garza and Wright I'd like to see replaced by rookies. Williams, if he comes "cheap" would be nice to have back since he can play every LB position. I'd say Anderson is probably a goner with hopefully Greene taking his spot. Slausson isn't on your list and I think he's a key player as well, unless the staff thinks Brown can step up. If they can get guys to agree to backload the contracts they should be able to sign Jay(12), Tillman(8), Jennings(7), Wooton(4), Slausson(3), and Williams(2).

From my calculations(looking at cap hits, not sure if that's what I should be looking at) they're roughly at 82M. The NFL salary cap is 123M this year, and I doubt that decreases, so if cap hits is what I should be looking at then the Bears have 41M to work with. I won't try to go any further looking into potential contracts until I know if cap hits is what I should look at.

Barring just a straight up awful season I think Jay will be paid regardless IMO. All the talk of it taking 3 years for the system to really click is what makes me think that. I do really like the QBs in the draft class (Bridgewater, Hundley, Boyd, Manziel etc.) coming up but I just can't see the Bears moving on to starting a rookie QB.
-
Pittsburgh has looked awful the first 2 weeks, at least offensively anyway, so I'd be highly disappointed if the Bears lose this one. They still got a good secondary, and it's the OLs first challenge vs a 3-4 so it'll be interesting to see how Jay and the line handle that. I'm predicting a 23-10 Bears W.
-
I actually don't find this to be trolling at all for what it's worth. Priority depends on how the draft shakes down of course. I don't think the Bears need to reach for anything if it's not there. In a perfect world where the quality of player is there in each round I'd like to see the draft go as follows...(NOTE, it's really way too early for this ish) 1st round- Safety- Of all the positions "of need" for next year safety is the position where a rookie can come in and play right away, and that is what I'd want out of a 1st rounder. I agree with what Brian said earlier about other teams safeties buzzing around and making a much bigger impact than what we have seen here lately. I'd love to see a guy like Eric Berry flying around the secondary. 2R- CB- Really too early to say that one of, or both, Tillman and Jennings will be gone next year. I'm also not sure how much the org like Frey, who has looked more than solid in preseason and unnoticeable in the first 2 games, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I haven't heard about him getting beat, nor have I heard about him doing anything really good. If he steps up and can take the place of 1 of Tillman/Jennings that would be fantastic. If both Tillman and Jennings are back and Frey looks good I wouldn't mind even waiting another round to grab a CB. If one of Tillman or Jennings is gone and Frey doesn't step up then I would have to grab one in the first. 3R-OC- As we know the OL Kromer wants is built from the inside out so if Garza is out next year a good replacement is needed. If Garza is back, I'd flip flop 3 and 4. 4R-DT- As I said in the previous post, unless Melton goes balls out the rest of the way I'm letting him walk. Collins has looked more than competent out there and could be our best DLman through 2 games. Still though Collins and Paea(who I love) can't do it every down so bringing in another guy to rotate is a must. 5R-TE- The fact that the Bears traded for Rosario tells me they want to either run 2 TE sets or don't like what the have behind Marty. Rosario is decent but not the answer. If the coming up draft is anything like this past draft then a better TE than Rosario could be had in the 5th. 6R-QB- Maybe even flip 5-6 here. I think Jay is back next year and for years to come but it would be nice to have a young QB (who's better than an UDFA) for Trestman to groom. 7R-DL/CB- Washington looks like he could be a stud, SMC should continue to grow, and Wooton will be fine so even if father time has caught up with Pep I think the Bears still have the bullets despite not really showing up the first 2 weeks. All that said there's no such thing as too many good DLman, esp. on a team with a potential HoFer like Peppers to learn from.....I also wouldn't mind seeing another corner here, preferably one with some return skills. This is all wayyyyy to early to really predict, and probably pointless but it was a good way to pass time.

This(and Brians post) sounds about right. Lets see how Rosario gets utilized over the course of the year, I believe he was brought in to be the 2nd receiving TE whereas Maneri is/should be more of a strict blocker. It was said that Trestman was gonna use a lot of 2 TE sets, and I was the biggest supporter of this, but with the way Marty looks so far I wouldn't put a huge emphasis on getting another TE high in the draft. CB is obvious right now, even if Tillman and Jennings both return. I would definitely grab a safety early as well. Emery built more speed at the LB level and now I think it's time to build more speed on the next level. It's early, but right now I'm letting Melton walk, resigning Collins, and drafting a DT in the 2nd or 3rd. I wanna see Washington get some work in before saying we should draft another DE high. DT, I'm letting Melton walk and resigning Collins unless HenMel starts reeking havok again. After 2 games Collins>Melton and he'll come much cheaper. On the OL I'd like to see a center taken in the mid rounds, and if they can't bring back Slausson I'd get an OG early on as well. WR is where the Bears have A TON of depth so that's not a need on any level. QB, I'd to see one taken in the 5th or 6th rounds and have him be groomed behind Jay(who I'd resign).

I know this is more Trestman based but the app wouldn't happen to have Paea doing the haka(the pre game "cheerleading" for those who don't follow rugby) would it? I can't seem to find a good quality video of it. I'd love to see the whole thing in good quality. Gives me new love for Paea as a rugby player.... To your point though, ya, I really liked the Trestman hire and so far he's done nothing to change that. I was a little afraid he wasn't gonna be able to get everyone to buy in to him and "respect" him but at least through success it really seems as though he's gotten over in the locker room.

My goodness, some of the posts I've read the last 2 weeks are just well, out there...After 2 games last year they were on pace to give 352, yet as you said they only gave up 277....This is like saying Payton Manning is on gonna throw 64 TDs.
-
I say just delete the thing....
-
Thanks man, I still think I'm just misunderstood on the whole subject and all I wanted to do was be understood. But it's whatever...Mods you can go ahead and delete this thread before it gets any more sappy.....We're 3 days from kickoff! No need to let this go any further.
-
Much appreciated. As you can tell from my arguments all I've really got is my pride right now. I'll get by on that alone. I'm a fighter. I didn't wanna have to go there and bring my personal life into this shit but I'm over it and want all this shit to end.

Lol I knew you'd guys still be talking after I left so I thought I'd check in...I found the irony in stingers post and wanted to point it out....I just find the whole thing rather ironic, sad and petty....Yes, I've contributed to this in large part due to my "pride", I'll admit it, I probably should have just let that article and tweet be. The reason I didn't was not to rub it in your guys faces, not to say I'm better than you, not in hopes of an apology, and not as a cocky arrogant douche bag. As I've said in multiple posts in this thread I posted this in hopes that you guys would better understand my views on the subject at hand and put all the frustrations we had this past offseason to rest. Instead I was once again casted as annoying, childish, retarded, douchey, a know it all, and all that jazz. All because I have a different opinion. The only thing I fault myself for is being too opinionated. If I would have laid down a long time ago we would have never reached this point. If that makes me childish, annoying, or whatever then all you had to do was do what was told to me and just ignore the posts I don't like. And to reiterate about me calling cracker a name after calling for the name calling to end. I did exactly what he said he did and I lowered myself to his level, which was petty but he brought me to that point. I don't think I'm better than anyone, and if I come off that way, I apologize. It's actually quite the opposite, I'm at a very low part in my life, and I would probably trade lives with any of you. All I have in life is sports, I guess in a way getting bashed like I did even made sports frustrating. I feel like a little bitch for saying all that but oh well I just want all this shit to go away and see the Bear whoop some ass on Sunday.
-
That's funny because I thought I was lowering myself to your level. I thought name calling was what one had to do around here to be heard... When I don't let things go I get shit and when I call people names I'm the bad guy.....'Murica
-
I apologize for lumping you into the discussion, and others who haven't as well. And your right. I walked away, from the whole board actually. I then read the article I posted and just couldn't pass up the opportunity. Perhaps I should have just kept it to myself. Anyway this board will never be fun to me again, not because people disagree with me but to just the overall ignorance displayed by some posters....This time last year I had already left the board for the same reasons...so I'll be off again. I'm sure most of you will have more fun with your dick and fart joke humor with me gone....have fun all but most importantly...Go Bears
-
Lol excuse me for having an opinion and defending it....didnt know that wasn't allowed...guess I'll go somewhere where it's allowed because as you can tell I don't like to play by the rules
-
seeing as all I've ever said was he was average last year I'll go with a C. I never once said he's an A or B player. If we're using grades I'd say my whole argument was calling him a C with the potential to be a C+/B- player. As Phil said you can win with that type of player. I'm also fairly certain he was talking about this offseason with the quote you brought up. That simply doesn't change mine or Phils thoughts about last season and the prior 2 that he has developed from. i'm really not trying to pull shit out of my ass or spinning shit to make me sound right, this is legit how I feel. Of course you guys think it's gm talk because it allows you guys to continually shit on me.... The Biggs tweet sure didn't make it sound like he thought it was simply a fluff piece....I wish he would have tweeted me back with his thoughts on whether it was fluff or not.
-
Once again I'm forced to sound like a broken record...Yes, I see no reason for him to make up a grading scale like he did. I understand the concept of giving the token wish you luck farewell, but don't understand why he'd bring up a "fake" grading scale and pulling a 14 of 16 statistic out of his ass. There was no need for him to get that specific into false details. Seriously guys just let it go.
-
You hit the nail there mad. I was gonna let this all go until I saw the article I posted. Then I took pride in seeing that me and him shared the same optimism and saw the same progressions. Showed me I'm not "Retarded" like you guys insisted on making me feel. If you guys wanna take it as "GM talk" fine, but you won't convince me otherwise. I've sounded like a broken record saying this but once again this all ends when people simply stop responding...It's a wisdom you tried to instill in me that seems to be a problem with others as well....
-
....and I'm the child??? haha Stay Classy
-
I don't know how not wanting to be misunderstood is childish so nope I don't know how childish that is. If accepting being misunderstood is childish then I don't ever wanna grow up. lol why do I have to be the one that moves on...I'm telling you guys how this ends and I still keep getting replys...Everyone previously told me if you don't like the content of the thread then just don't go into said thread....It goes both ways guys.... I don't give up.
-
I've been all about it! I'm just not gonna not defend my point....You guys stop, and everyones happy.

I posted that in green which on soxtalk means sarcasm. Figured that'd get lost in translation. Cracker. I posted this shortly after Biggs made a tweet about it and the Trib posted the article. It was words out the mouth of the Bears GM. It was obviously still relevant otherwise they wouldn't have said anything. Yes his downward spiral this off season isn't the progression I expected, and I have no reason to believe it isn't what Phil expected either. That doesn't change my previous argument that was simply he progressed into a near average OT who I was optimistic would continue to progress into an above average OT. I know what my point was, afterall it was my point. If you continue to respond of course I'm going to defend. The one thing I hate is to be misunderstood and I felt like I was misunderstood all offseason here.
