Gotcha....Well if you notice, nearly all my posts include that if for a reason. So I actually agree with you that it's all based on a big if. I'm certainly not calling him a lock to even make the team. Pick analysis from nfl.com It's been a couple of years now.

Uhhh I don't get it?
-
I don't wanna give up on ERod either but if this guy puts it all together he offers much higher upside. ERod in the H-Back/FB role might not be a bad thing if he gets utilized like Trestman has utilized FBs in the past. -Larry Centers had 69 catches as a FB -William Floyd and Tommy Vardell combined for 58 catches. -Floyd and Adam Walker combined for 58 catches as well. If Fendi has tapped into his potential I think there could be a role for both players.
-
Doesn't help that that guy was struggling to run a 4.8 and could be easily covered by an LB. I'd say Fendi presents much more upside than Ali. With 4.4 speed he presents a much harder matchup for most LB/CBs I know your a big ERod fan but I'm surprised your not backing this. I believe it was you who brought up how we should just go grab a player with a basketball pedigree to play TE before we got Bennett. Why has your tune changed since? If this guy can finally tap into that raw potential then I'd much rather see him primarily used as the 2nd TE and ERod at fb .
-
Much like Kromer (I believe) has said he doesn't care where a player is drafted, I too can care less. If Fendi puts it all together he could be a much more dangerous weapon than ERod. I bolded "if" because at this stage we just don't know if he's actually put it together. To hear that he's been working with Cutler tells me he just might have put it together. Like the article I posted said "He wouldn't be making that time investment if he didn't see something worthwhile." Hearing that he's also got a chance to pick the brains of Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates is also encouraging. The completed project of Fendi Onobun is one that would be a matchup nightmare. 6'6" with 4.4 speed is just out of this world.
-
It'll hurt but I still think they have enough on offense to still be the best team i the NFC, esp. if Boldin performs well there. They still got Boldin, Vernon Davis, Mario Manningham, and then if Vance McDonald and Quinton Patton step up as rookies they could still be dangerous.

Here's the tribune article on Fendi. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-05...nobun-tight-end I think that line from the article speaks volumes on what we might see out of him. If he could build a relationship with Jay then he has a good chance to be productive this year.
-
Not if "Cinnabon" plays up to his measurables. 6'6", 4.45 speed, a basketball background(which you like). There's no way I'd rather see a shorter, slower ERod out there over him if Fendi has truly put it all together. ERod can still produce out of the FB role.
-
He certainly has all the measurables. Former 4 year college basketball player who is said to have soft hands and can catch the ball in traffic. I haven't seen the tribune article yet but per rotoworld With his size and athleticism he very well could be that #2 TE I was craving before the draft. Is there any news on where ERod has been playing in OTAs?

Did they watch tape of a healthy Carimi though?...When did he get hurt his rookie year again? Where are you getting that he copped an attitude? I'm obviously ok with Webb at RT but the more competition the better to further validate whoever wins the position.
-
I still think they should give him a chance. I know some have brought up game tape as a reason they know he's no good but how much healthy game tape does he have? I think that's a key, if they are looking at game tape from last year where his knee supposedly wasn't healthy that's not really good tape to go off of. I know they said they view him strictly as an OG but I was hoping he'd be able to compete for the RT position as well. I know between Webb/Scott/Mills that's already a lot of competition but I thought a healthy Carimi would be able to add more to that....Perhaps a healthy Carimi is not what we have though. I doubt they cut him before they see him in pads.
-
That's a great point.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,5277672.story I thought there was a good chance he'd sign with the Queens...If they don't want him then I don't see him getting a job anywhere to start the season.
-
ya, I doubt we can get anything for him.
-
Was it merely speculation or was it stated as truth? Hard to believe there's not an article on it if it's true. That's kind of big news there.
-
Do you have a link? Can't find any articles online and you'd think there'd be at least one out there if this is true...Or did you just hear it in a conversation with Jason lol? =p
-
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000020...ign=Twitter_atl If that is to be believed then he should be fine. The question now would be does he get the chance to compete at RT which I suspect he would with the drafting of Long. (BTW that's an old video on that link, not sure why they put it up there)
-
If Carimi gets cut I think we may have to send an amberlance to Jasons house because it probably means Webb is our starting RT. =p
-
His average time till sack was 4.01...which was the 4th longest time in the NFL. That's a testament to no one sans Marshall being able to get open.
-
When Jay got the ball out in 2.5 seconds or less he completed 63% of his passes. When he got it out over that mark he completed just 54%.
-
Doesn't seem like much but it is. Much like the difference between a "Speed WR" (4.4) and a "possession WR" (4.7) is about .3 seconds. The article reminds me a lot of the argument we had on here a few months ago where I busted out some PFF stats on how long Jay held the ball. Working the underneath stuff will obviously get the ball out quicker, and at the same time it forces defenses to drop more into coverage which then opens things up to hold it a little longer to work the deep ball. This obviously also helps the OL out which I believe was my argument a few months ago.
-
He didn't give up a single sack last year, on a bad Jets team. I'd say he's good.
-
I'd be shocked to see him cut honestly. He doesn't make toooo much and he provides depth/versatility/potential? for the bears. Unless last year really was who he is. I know I've given Jason a hard time about Gabe but I don't hate the guy and hope he turns it around. He's pretty nasty and even if he doesn't start I think he would do well in the Jason Stithcomb role if Kromer brings that to the Bears protection scheme.
-
Was there a corresponding move yet? Last I heard we were at 60 players.

While we're on Sandusky, I had a fantasy baseball team called the Sandusky Bat Boys.
