A whole lot of questions that should be interesting to see play out. I wish we could fast forward to week 1 already!
-
You must love Webb more than me lol. One things for sure this year is there's not gonna be any favoritism on the line so whoever gets the RT position will have earned it. If it is indeed Webb I don't wanna hear anyone complain.
-
Meh, maybe a "red flag" for the past 3 years that we didn't see but wouldn't it be a "green flag" (a positive) for him going forward? We also don't really know what he said about it affecting his on the field performance. The quotes you pulled weren't quotes from Webb but simply just part of the article.
-
oh lord, what part of that article comes makes it sound like he's crying about how hard it is? If this was anyone else it'd be a non issue.
-
Bushrod was getting pushed back by Smith as well when he wasn't getting help from the LG and that's part of my point. When he didn't get the help he looked very Webb like. The difference though is Webb was going solo every single snap, and believe it or not held his own quite a few times. Webb wasn't abused in any game last year vs Allen, he held him in check both games. He also pretty much held Cliff Avril in check the 2 games vs the Lions. He holds his own vs DEs, it's the fast LBs who can beat him in space that give him problems. The Saints line eliminated the space by putting 2 guys on those dynamic pass rushing LBs. Like stinger keeps saying this is an old issue though so there's no need to keep bringing it up because I will continue to defend my "stupid" argument. If we wanna debate Webb vs Scott vs Mills vs Carimi then that's a more up to date argument.
-
I know this will be taken as me being a "Webb lover" but I really don't see the problem here....If this was any other player would you call him a moron? If this was Jay Cutler saying these things, who we know drinks based on the picture posted yesterday, would he be a moron?? Is Kyle Long a moron? If this was anyone else trying to better himself we'd be applauding him.
-
If they plan on using ERod as a TE than I'd say Unga is our FB at this moment. It's what some projected him to be in the NFL anyway so I think it's a realistic possibility. He's said to have good hands which bodes well for him if Trestman utilizes him in the pass game like he did with his FBs in the past.
-
Uh it wasn't random at all, I picked 2 games against the best defense in the league (San Fran) on purpose. I also haven't brought it up, it gets brought up by others and I have to go back and defend what I said again. I also chose Webbs worst game so it's not def not cherry picking here. Let me put my whole argument into simpler terms instead of babbling on and on. Do you disagree that Webb AND Long/Slausson on Clay Matthews gives the Bears a better chance to contain CM than Webb alone? Put in that situation wouldn't Webb become a vastly better player? Look guys, believe or not before this offseason I too was a Webb hater until I actually looked into the situation. Yes, it started with PFF but I was still as skeptical as you guys until I dug deeper and actually watched the tape. The tape matched up with all info and it wasn't till that point that my opinion was set in stone. I do welcome Bushrod and Kromer aboard though.
-
The tape was from the San Fran game from this past year, not sure why that is being viewed as a non valid game to view. Bushrods game was vs the same defense. Maybe the Bears want 2 solid tackles and thats why brought in Bushrod, who came fairly cheap....I know it's kinda woulda coulda shoulda, but I believe there's really no denying that if you give a mediocre LT constant mauling help from a LG he will look really good. That's my point. If you eliminate the space that gave Webb trouble then there's no trouble. There is really no end to this argument because I won't change my stance on this.
-
There are others out there as well. Like the guys at PFF. I went beyond stats and broke down 2 games and my point remained the same. We can't truly know how much better Webb would be if he had the same kind of help Bushrod or the other way around but it's hard not to say that if Webb got constant help from an OG that he wouldn't have been much better. A good deal of the sacks he gave up were against Aldon and Clay, if the Bears used Nolas method of helping out against the other teams best pass rusher don't you think Webb would have done a much better job?
-
I honestly don't remember, all I remember was him being pretty productive on some awful Jaguar teams. Looking at his stats now he put up the 60% completion % everyone wants. Without wasting too much time here's the only scouting report I've found from back in the day
-
Garrard isn't the youngster we can groom but if he gets released he's the guy I have my eyes on.
-
That has been my point this whole offseason so I absolutely agree. We won't be leaving Webb, or anyone really, out there on an island with the likes of Aldon Smith or Clay Matthews. No one in the league is gonna lock those guys down 1v1 so it was silly to have Webb, who a lot of people deem god awful, out there trying to block those guys 1v1....it certainly will be nice to have Kromer running things on the OL.
-
Absolutely, Trestman will spread the field with Bennett and Forte as a real threat to catch the ball out of the backfield forcing teams LBs to stay back to respect those 2 guys resulting in less of a pass rush. Of course the WCO and getting the ball out quicker will also help everyone on the line...There's also no denying that Webb has some competition this year with Scott, Mills, and technically maybe even Carimi and Long as well. That and with no Tice around fans can't say that J'Marcus didn't earn the spot if he's the starting RT.
-
I too think the Bennett acquisition will be huge. Last year going into NY his weight was an issue, coming in at something like 280 pounds. This year from what I can tell from following him on twitter he's been putting in a lot of work so we won't see the same issue here. I expect him to put up bigger numbers than the 55/626 he put up in NY..
-
This is going to be my last post about this silly "situation" I like you, you're a fun poster, but lets just keep it football related here. I do apologize if my comments have come across as arrogant to the extent that you think I'm trying to say I'm more intelligent than everyone. That's not my goal with the comments. I know I was trying to fight fire with fire with me name calling after being called a name and thats not the way to do things. Let's carry on....JWebb for president
-
Not gonna lie, that's actually pretty hilarious....Lol it doesn't help my argument to bring it up but there's a team in my league that every member is gay. There's actually a movie about them that was/is on netflix called Go Dragons Go....They're horrible (In my first 2 years we won 3 games, 2 of those were against the Dragons), but they're some tough sobs I'll give them that. Uh, this is my forth year in rugby, I've been knocked out once and have seen, that I remember, 2 serious leg injuries and a shoulder injury. Multiple minor injuries that have forced players out of games....It's physical, and while these guys don't hit as hard as these freaks in the NFL, we don't have pads, the hits still hurt and can hurt you. Look at some of these shots. I'd much rather take a hit from Jon Bostic or Aldon Smith in full pads than anyone of these hits.
-
I'd really like to know the situation and what I said because that doesn't sound like me. I try to bring a certain level of maturity to the board (despite being one of, if not the youngest guy here...odd). I don't like to resort to name calling unless the name calling comes my way first at which point I still don't like to bring myself down to someone elses level but at the same time I'm not gonna let it slip. If I did say something offensive to you out of no where then I do apologize.
-
My argument is more about the protection each guy received. If you switch the players last year and you have Bushrod constantly on an island and Webb constantly gets help from an OG IMO things would be different....I don't have any stats on it but I've showcased my research to support this in a thread earlier this offseason. Bushrod got help from his OG over half the time on passing plays while Webb got no such help. On plays where Bushrod wasn't getting help he was getting pushed back or beat much like Webb was. It's all gravy though because Kromer is coming with him so we won't get to see Bushrod on an island.
-
It's not even about who the LG is really, it's about the way the LG was used to help the LT. The Bears rarely if ever gave Webb LG help. You put 2 even mediocre lineman on 1 guy and chance are that 1 guy is gonna lose. There's really no way we're gonna find that out if I was right or not with Kromer coming over with Bushrod but I suspect if Bushrod was here with Tice and constantly left on an island like Webb was we'd see similar results.
-
Well ya I can agree that the the bigger, stronger, faster athletes are in the NFL, which would result in bigger harder hits. The overall physicality of the 2 sports are 2 different things though. I've played both on a semi pro level and I can tell you that I've gone home with more aches and pains playing rugby than I ever have playing football. Alesana Tuilagi is my favorite rugby player and here's a video of him. Tell me, would you rather be Teddy Bridgewater in the OP or the poor guy taking a hit around the 2:20 mark? Or the 3:39 mark?
-
Thing is I saw what happened when they took away Bushrod's awesome OGs and he looked very Webb like. Webb in the 2 games I focused on only him never got the same protection that JB had, and my point was had he gotten that same protection things would have been different. Now that the JB vs JW debate is over my point can really be Kromer vs Tice, when you really look at it. Or a LT on an island vs LT and a LG argument as to which situation gives the LT a better chance to survive vs the likes of Aldon Smith or Clay Matthews.

I'm curious, at age 25, am I the youngest poster here?

Here's a good article on Wilson... http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id...marquess-wilson ...I like the insider info from scouts inc.
