Lol I sincerely doubt that. What even makes you say that?

The thing I like about drafting a BIG TE (emphasis on the big) to play over ERod is the mismatch it could/would create. Rodriguez, according to this scouting report I'm looking at, is only 6'1" so he doesn't really force other teams defenses to put a LB on him. If you put Bennett out there with an Eifert (6'6"), Ertz (6'5"), Escobar (6'6"), Toiolo (6'8"), or Fauria (6'8"), opposing defenses would be forced to drop 2 LBs into coverage to D up on those 2 guys. If they don't then the big TE's can give corners or safeties a headache with their size. When a defense is forced to put 2 LBs into coverage AND have to worry about Forte coming out of backfield to catch the ball it creates all sorts of mismatches. I think the ace package that lines up Forte in the backfield and lines up Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, and another big 6'5"+ TE would cause all sorts of headaches for defenses to defend. It's possible that the other team would have to use all 3 of their LBs in coverage, one on Bennett, one on the new big TE, and one on Forte. LBs are the guys who gave the Bears OL the most problems in pass blocking last year, so if they can eliminate that problem by forcing LBs into coverage then you can keep Cutler from "running like hell". That's my reasoning behind why I think drafting a big TE wouldn't be a "waste" and why I think the Bears are still looking at TEs in the draft.

I haven't seen anything either, I just tweeted to Biggs to see if he can shed any light on where he's been used.
-
I really think Kyle Moore makes this ball club and contributes....I wouldn't be shocked to see Harvey Unga at FB either. I know I'll get flamed for that comment by someone.
-
Thing is we have no clue what Trestman wants the offense to look like. He could value a TE over a WR. He could want ERod at FB. Maneri can just provide depth. Kyle Adams might not even be in the big picture. If they end up drafting a TE it's because they plan on using another one. The more I think about it the more I would love a TE at some point. It's gonna be awfully hard for teams to defend 2 big TEs without putting LBs on them, which then makes the OLs job easier because they will have less people to block. I really do love the idea but would understand if they didn't go that route.

Of course...I'm not saying Phil makes that call now, I thought it would be common sense that I meant on draft day.
-
I saw that as well and also saw that they're looking to trade up for a CB. Maybe Phil can tell ATL that they're going to take a CB so if they wanna trade up now is the time. Pick 20 is worth 850 while pick 30 is 620. Adding in their 3rd and 4th rounders moves the value up to 800. According to the the draft value chart we're giving them a "deal" but in reality I'll take an extra 3rd and 4th rounder all day to move down 10 spots. Shefter just reported that Atlanta has 11 picks so they have the picks to unload.

He more than likely is. There are still some guys I would like in 4th-5th round if the Bears truly do want to pick up a 2nd big TE.... Like I mentioned before I'm a huge Levine Toiolo fan, if he wasn't stuck behind Ertz and Fleener over at "Tight end U" I think his stock would be higher. He more than likely will be available in the 5th. Dion Sims is another guy who could be had in the 5th. Scouting reports are comparing him to our own Martellus Bennett Whether or not they want a player that similar to Bennett is up for debate. Joseph Fauria's name was brought up awhile ago by some guys here and could be had in the 5th as well. Chris Gragg set the combine on fire and will probably be there in the 4th or 5th but he's a little "undersized". I'd like to think if they want "undersized" they should just give ERod the position. Evan could end up being the FB though which I don't mind esp if he gets utilized like Trestman utilized the FB position when he was with the 9ers. The 2 years he was the OC there the FB position had 112 catches for 802 yards. So if the Bears get Evan involved like those guys I wouldn't be mad at all that they put their 4th round pick their.

There's really nothing to admit. Everyone knows how many draft picks we have. I guess with all they've done in FA they can live with only 4 draft picks, which is what trading up would almost certainly mean, though... There are a ton of ways they can go in the first that I'd be thrilled/indifferent about...That's what I'm gonna love about the draft this year. The only position I would hate to see them take is a RB in the first. A case could be made for just about every other position.

This is true. Here's an article on the situation http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,4695292.story Interesting quote. You'd think the injury would have them more focused on him as a RT. Long is pretty raw, I'm not sure he can start right away, and reports are he's better suited to play OG. He was moved to LG from LT due to struggles.
-
Former 2nd round pick....But PFF gave him a worse rating than Chilo Rachal...Thats bad. Maybe Kromer sees something he can fix.
-
I agree that it's little odd for him to pinpoint him as an OG after 1 day but he's already made the statement.
-
Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears 1h Gabe Carimi is working at LG, RG and RT. #Bears Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears 1h Marc Trestman believes Gabe Carimi is best suited for guard. #Bears So he is working at RT and fighting with Webb but Trestman just thinks he's best suited for OG. That tells me either Webb looks better than Carimi or Webb is gone....The OTs in the draft all look pretty weak past the big 3 so I hope my boy JWebb continues to progress under Kromer.
-
What tweet made you think they'll trade up? All the tweets I'm reading say that they don't have the picks to trade up.
-
Not a ton of news...Theres a good chance we draft a QB at some point. There are already teams wanting to trade up with us supposedly. They're still looking at Izzy and others to sign to the roster. They supposedly like Garza at OC. He was disappointed with the arrest of ERod.
-
With the supposed TE interest I would love to see them wait until the 5th or 6th round and take Ertz teammate Levine Toiolo. I brought up his name months ago as I guy I was interested in and with the the Bears still apparently interested in a TE I remain interested.
-
And what are your thoughts on him giving up the most pressures in the SEC last year? He sounds a lot like Carimi to me, a guy who's getting high praise because of his prowess in the run game. You're obviously afraid of Jay "running for his life" so why go with another stud in the run game who apparently isn't great in the pass game.
-
I of course would love the above. Would set up a really dynamic passing attack.
-
And their scouting reports are very similar as well....The fact that he gave up the most pressures in the SEC kinda scares me, esp considering Bama isn't exactly a passing offense.
-
Because if they wanted an OG in the draft you'd think they'd bring in more than just 2 guys who are no where near the top half of the draft....I assume this list is from walter football who is in the know with these types of things so it seems. I don't see why you're so against Carimi at RG, he actually did a pretty good job there.
-
That we can agree on. I would hope it's not a LB but I can understand the reasoning behind it since all 3 of our LBs are FAs next year as well but give me the corner who can also help the Bears win this year as well.
-
I wouldn't really say that it's the next obvious position to fill, especially for now. All 5 of our CBs are free agents next year, and a 1st round CB can come in right away and contribute at the nickel position. The DBs may be deep but why pass up on a guy like Desmond Trufant to get a lesser player later? I'm all in on Desmond Trufant as my 1st round pick if Cooper and Warmack are gone.
-
This is the guy I want. With the additions of DJ Williams, 4.45 40, and James Anderson, 4.5 40, it's obvious the Bears want speed at the LB position. Zaviar Gooden, 4.47 40, has plenty of speed to burn and he won't cost us a 1st round pick. I don't think he'll last all the way to us in the 4th but if the Bears can pick up a 3rd rounder he's the guy I want there.
-
Personally I wouldn't take either, or any LB till the mid rounds. We're set there this year, but if the Bears do wanna take a 1st rounder who isn't going to contribute right away (something that I would like my 1st round pick to do) I'd take Ogletree.
-
This year anyway they should have no problem paying Bennett, unless they plan on continuing to add players via FA. I would assume they already have draft money set aside so there's no doubt it would fit in the budget. There's no question I'd keep Bennett around for as long as possible, we need the depth. If someone gets injured who are we throwing out there? I do loves me some Joe Anderson but I believe having Bennett around is a huge plus with his rapport with Jay.
