The Saints 2 leading WRs (Colston and Moore) ran a 4.5+...They do have Devery Henderson who was a burner but he wasn't really that productive. The Packs fastest WR (Cobb) only ran a 4.46, which is .02 seconds faster than Jeffery and .01 seconds slower than Joe Anderson. Jordy Nelson was their biggest deep threat (15.2 YPC, no other player above 12.5) and he ran a 4.51, .01 faster than Marshall and .03 seconds slower than Jeffery....I wouldn't discount Jeffery working out at Fit Speed either. Marshall was able to shave .3 (not sure if the website meant .03 or just straight up .3) seconds off his 40 time after working with the guys there. I lost the link I had about the WCO but it was a pretty long and elaborate read and speed being a must was never mentioned. It's all about setting the defense up. Speed is a plus though I can't deny that.

McManis is a fifth round draft pick, and Frey is a 6th rounder. Chances are they don't have the upside to man a #2 spot. I wouldn't sit around and have these guys play a big role on our team but thats just me.
-
I understand that. I just think they can work the deep ball with who the have already simply by setting up the defense through the run game and short to mid range passes. You force the safeties and corners to cheat up and thats when you hit them over the top. Pretty simple to understand and I believe thats the whole premise of a WCO. Thats why I'd be ok with them taking another big TE to help them work the short to mid game which I believe sets up Marshall and Jeffery to go over the top. Once again I'm not against them adding a burner I just don't think it's an absolute must when drafting a WR. I prefer they just go with the best possible WR when they feel they should draft one, regardless of 40 time.
-
You're probably right but I'm not so sure speed is an element you absolutely need in a WCO. You lull the defenders to sleep with the short passes then when you get them on their heels thats when even a guy like E. Bennett can beat the guy over the top. That's how I understood the WCO when I read about it. Speed isn't a no no or anything so don't take it as me saying that I'm just saying I don't think it's vital that the WR we draft (and we do need to draft 1) is a burner.

Here's 2 posts I made last month, not a lot of info, but the article on is pretty solid. Like I mentioned if you take a look at the measureables the article presented and compare them with other prospects there's no question he's in their league physically. With so many catches, even in DIII it tells me he has suitable hands.
-
I agree with the bold, not only to extend his career but to also get him around the ball more (more oppertunities to punch that ball out). That said, wouldn't that be all the more reason to draft a CB high? Are you ok with Hayden/Frey/Bowman/McManis being our #2 CB? I'm not.
-
Exactly, it's a passing league.
-
Hayden wasn't that great in the nickle role and could/should be upgraded. All the beat writers were throwing out the possibility of taking a corner in the 1st and I think it makes a lot of sense.
-
Only 2 OGs on that big ol list...Leads me to believe Carimi is our guy at RG. I brought up Eric Rodgers in on of my mocks as a DIII sleeper and it was bashed by someone. The little info I got on him makes me think he can be the next DIII kid to make it in the NFL. If the Bears liked what they saw I wouldn't hate to see him picked with our 6th rounder even though he's probably a 7th round pick due to his level of competition.
-
Why would he move to RG after playing LG the last 3 years? When you look at a lot of the mock drafts out there now most of them have us going defense (hell theres a guy on nfl.com that has us taking Ogletree with Cooper and Fluker still on the board) so you're whole absolutely no one is talking about taking D over the OL is just false. I'm done with this convo though, it's stupid. In my original post I had a 2nd list of picks to coincide with the potential that the staff doesn't like Carimi so it's really pointless to drag this on any further. In this particular situation I've already said I want them to take a center in the 4th to replace him...You dont draft centers in the 1st or 2nd.
-
Ya, Ertz, and most the guys you mentioned, are probably a reach at 20. I kinda doubt he (Ertz) makes it to us at pick 50 so I think they're looking at him as a potential pick in a trade down situation.
-
He's been called, by some, one of the worst centers in the league. I know the link I'm about to post is from bleacher report and should hold close to no weight at all but I seem to remember more than just BR calling him one of the worst in the league. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1052850...-centers/page/2 It was also posted by Matt Miller, one of the few guys on BR who actually have some credentials.
-
In the 2nd, that could be pretty cool. Maybe those who have us still taking Eifert aren't that crazy after all.
-
Would you stop using caps locks, it's annoying. There's no denying Carimi wasn't bad at RG, there simply isn't. So in my opinion that's his spot on the line. Webb moving back to RT may stunt any kind of development he's had so I may worry about him more but after watching the Saints line in a game and a half I think he'll do much better in this scheme that will keep him closer to the line and off the proverbial island that he was spending a lot of time on last year. Yes our OL was turrable last year but Bushrod-Slausson-Schwenke(hopefully)-Carimi-Webb is virtually a brand new OL, with only Carimi staying in the same position as last year.
-
Poor at best, ugh, I wouldn't call it poor at best. You can't deny that Carimi was MUCH better at RG than he was at RT, you simply can't. He wasn't half bad there either, I think he'll find a home there. If you wanna think he'll rebound enough to move back to RT then I'm ok with that, it's a valid opinion, and once again it's one of the reasons I posted 2 series of picks. I guess another valid argument could be replacing Webb at RT. But once again my opinion is that Webb will be put in a much better situation to succeed this year by not constantly putting him on an island and giving him better help protection against tough defenders. But it's no surprise if you'd want him gone. We all have an opinion here, and my opinion is Webb-Carimi or hell even Carimi-Brown can be a solid RT-RG duo. I will say that you reminded me about the sexy thoughts of Terron Armstead playing the Jason Stithcomb role and serving as an extra large FB/TE eligible OT as the first pick of the 2nd.
-
Sub-moronic? lol gtfo. I believe my explanation behind the line is pretty valid. The Bears are gonna threaten defenses with what they have already, I'm sure of it. Since you're such a know it all who would you want to see us draft with 3 2nd rounders? Seems all you wanna do is sit around and let others throw guys names out there while you sit back and bash. If you think Carimi is either gonna take the RT spot or won't even see the field then thats fine, that's why I put up 2 sets of picks. I personally see him as our starting RG which is why I threw out that first set of picks. It all depends on how the Bears view Carimi. I would be fine with them going Warford, then Brown (who I believe would be phenomenal value in the 2nd), and the David Amerson with their 3rd pick.
-
Fantastic article, I can't wait to see what the bears look like on offense....I get a feel we'll be spreading guys out and utilizing a lot of different guys in the pass game which is really gonna help everyone on the offensive side of the ball.
-
Saints did it and not just with a TE, they locked both Bushrod and Grubbs(LG) or Ryan Stithcomb(an OT that they lined up as a FB or as an extra tackle) on Aldon Smith for the majority of the game. I'm sure we'll be seeing much of the same thing with Kromer being here. I think it's all about how the Saints stretch the field with a plethora of WRs/RBs/TEs, that really limits how many guys the defense can blitz since LBs have to keep an eye on the RB/TE. If they don't cover them then you have a wide open guy for a quick pass.
-
I can care less about the Webb/Bushrod analysis, it's over with so don't worry about it. Yes, my first choices were all defense because I think they should try to get something out of Gabe and I believe he can be our RG of the future. Drafting a OC in the 4th also sets up Garza to compete at RG and I also have some hope for James Brown as well meaning we'd have a 3 guys fighting for RG (Carimi, Garza, and Brown). Then at RT they can potentially have 3 guys fighting for the position as well (Webb, Scott, and then Carimi again). I'm hoping an intense battle will light a fire under someones ass at each spot to solidify the right side of the line. I wouldn't be opposed to taking an OL piece for the right side over a DT but I can see a few stud DTs falling to us at the end of the 2nd. The mock I was looking at has Jesse Williams and John Jenkins, who are not just 3-4 DTs IMO, there for the taking and I'd be all over one of them.....Maybe I'm just being biased because Jesse Williams played rugby like I played rugby and I really wanna root for the guy as a Bear.
-
If you wanna get technical they have 5 with Turk McBride as well(I'm sure there's a guy on the practice squad also). Fluellen and McBride aren't guys I'd hang my hat on though.
-
It was stopped about a month ago sir, no clue why it was rehashed today. I will still stand by my statement though if/when it is brought up.
-
I more than likely will have to break down all the bears game over the next week or 2 for PFF but I'm only specifically looking at player participation. It's pointless now to rehash the old argument as you sad though.
-
Nope, those words never came out of my mouth. I went back and watched both their games vs SF, thats all.
-
Agreed that there's no need to jump back on this subject...esp if you just wanna go off highlights.
-
The highlights of the Bears game you posted only showed the bad plays...seriously when you have the time go back and watch both games and you'll see what I'm talking about. NFL rewind is only 30 bucks and you can watch every nfl game last year.
