Not so sure we have the money to resign Izzy. The latest I've heard about the cap number was ~3M which is what's needed for the draft. I suppose they can release someone after the draft that would give them more money to sign him though. Still waitiing to hear who our nickelback was last year Moore or Hayden? I'm assuming with all the "DJ Moore wasn't a factor" talk that it was Hayden? All I know is PFF has Moore graded positively while Hayden is graded negatively so one would have to assume Moore was the NB.
-
This is true but there are also a plethora of big time FAs set to hit the market. Briggs, Tillman, Jennings, Cutler, Melton, and then the 3 guys we threw 1 year deals at Williams, Anderson, and Slausson.
-
Trufant wouldn't be a reach and Williams or Jenkins would give them great value at #50. You get BPA at needs. I'd love to see Trufant/Williams/Schwenke as our first 3 picks. They all provide great value. no clue how that just dub posted

I believe both Tillman and Jennings are free agents next season. I agree with the rest of what you said. Trufant has 4.3 speed to keep up with slot WRs but he projects to be on the outside in the future making Tillman expendable/moveable. Was Moore or Hayden the nickel last year? I don't recall. I know they both played 300+ snaps last year and Moore rated out much better than Hayden.
-
I'm not saying move Melton to DE permanently, I'm just saying using him there situationally against the run. Melton was not very good at defending the run. A combo of Williams/Jenkins and Paea would be fantastic vs the run, while I do believe Melton on the outside can still look pretty good.

At this point, 19 days before the draft, the direction I'm going with the 1st 2 pick is replacing these 2 guys. Those 2 guys played the biggest roles for our beloved Bears who have yet to be replaced. You can say we replaced Izzy with Turk Mcbribe and replaced DJ Moore with Hayden/Bowman but I believe we could still use an upgrade over those guys. Mcbride wasn't able to find that much time playing for the terrible Saints D, Hayden ranked in the bottom half of free agent CBs according to PFF, and Bowman was relegated to almost strictly ST work. I'm really leaning towards Trufant in the 1st, I think he would offer the most value to the Bears next year and in the future. Trufant would potentially allow the Bears to move Tillman to a safety position in 2014 and he also gives us protection if, for whatever reason, the Bears can't resign Tillman/Jennings next offseason. As for replacing Izzy? I really think Melton can do the rotating DE/DT thing Izzy did. He's got the speed and he knows how to get to the QB. I'd love to get a massive DT like John Jenkins or Jesse Williams who very well could drop to the 2nd round for us. Get one of those big run stuffers to put next to Paea vs a team like the Vikings to try and slow down ADP and the run game. A Peppers/Williams/Paea/Melton front 4 could be nasty against the run, and something I'd really love to see the Bears do. Drafting Trufant can help you defend the Pack and drafting Williams/Jenkins can help you defend the Vikings.

But there will probably be idiots who say he's terrible because he won't be a starter in year 1.
-
I've thought about this myself. I don't think it's THAT big a need to take one in the 1st 2 rounds. With Williams and Anderson, if they stay on the field, they're the starters so whoever they draft won't see a lot of time.

If he's there at 50 I wouldn't mind him. Give him a year off(barring injury) to teach him up and let the whole catfish stuff blow over.
-
Honestly I'd be happy with a good portion of those guys in the last 2 lists. The Bears can go so many different ways that it's really hard to get a read on what we need the most. I'd be content with any of the following from the last 2 lists Cordarrelle Patterson, WR (90) Desmond Trufant, CB (91) Alec Ogletree, LB (94) Tyler Eifert, TE (93) Sylvester Williams, DT (92) Menelik Watson, OT Arthur Brown, LB DeAndre Hopkins, WR Justin Hunter, WR Keenan Allen, WR (91) Robert Woods, WR Jonathan Banks, CB Kwann Short, DT (89) John Jenkins, DT (90) Jesse Williams, DT Jonathan Hankins, DT

I know there's some kind of strength and condition training going on for the bears right now but when do the Bears start doing actual football training? Is it before the draft? It'd be nice if Kromer and the rest of the organization can get a better idea as to whether or not Carimi/Brown is the answer at RG and whether Webb/Scott is the answer at RT.

You can say that with just about every player in the draft...remember 40% right?
-
Yes, Dion Jordan, the guy who is picked # 2 in the last 4 mock drafts posted on NFL.com. The guy who is the most explosive defensive player in the draft. You're right, he shows the most potential and in a year where the starting lineup is set for the most part I draft the guy with the most potential. IMO he has the ability to be a game changer with his speed and size (6'6" 4.54 40). I'd probably rather have Milliner though. If this question was meant to be posted a month ago I'd agree with you and say Joeckel. I'm not sure of the intent of the question though.
-
At this point? It's a toss up between Milliner and Jordan. As I've said in another thread, it's a passing league and Peanut isn't getting younger. Milliner locks down the nickle then moves to the outside when Peanut retires/moves to a safety position. Jordan is in the conversation though. He can play DE, or be a LB in both a 3-4 and a 4-3 so he offers up a lot of flexibility.

No thank you. Matt Blanchard is our #3.

I agree, this whole draft is wide open right now and I love it. This has been the most excited I've been for a draft in quite sometime...Probably ever....

Oh I know Austin isn't a possession WR, I'm saying I like the Wrs we have already. 4 Guys, Marshall, Jeffery, and Bennettx2 who can all move the chains and move us down the field. Throw in Forte and ERod and we have 6 guys that can all play a role in the passing game. I'd pass on Austin or any WR in the first but thats just me. One later on will be needed for depth though, unless the practice squad guys emerge which is a possibility. The OL is up in the air right now. I think Carimi "deserves" a legit chance at OG. He didn't perform that bad there last year and it would be nice to get something out of him so he's not a total bust. That said it'd be really hard to pass on Cooper or Warmack though. If the plan is to draft Cooper and play him at OC tho then I think that'd be a bad pick. I would like to see us add a OC in the 4th though. At this point I'm leaning towards wanting a CB 1st round. It's a passing league so having 3 stud CBs would be nice...and Tillman isn't getting any younger.
-
I like the possession receivers we already have. I really wouldn't mind adding a CB to the mix in the first round, it can help now and in the future. The Pack have 3 solid WRs in Nelson, Jones, and Cobb. Itd be nice to cover those guys with Tillman, Jennings, and say Desmond Trufant. Or a trade down for David Amerson would be pretty sweet.
-
This...All this. It already happened so its pointless to discuss.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't ILB interior linebacker? aka the position Urlacher played? I'd say Ogletree has the versatility to do whatever he needs to do. He's a thumper with explosive sideline to sideline speed and should play good in coverage.
-
Agreed, i really want Kwame Geathers in the 5th if he's there.
