This just became official today, freeing up the 1.125M that was said weeks ago by BB. Curious if that 1.125 is needed for the draft class or if the Bears can use it on another FA like Izzy or maybe, just maybe, yet another OL piece.

I hate you. lol

Ya I've never actually read the nfl.com reports, for whatever reason they don't show up when I google such and such player scouting report....I always just look a mock then google the player who fits a need....I'm not saying Brown is a bad player, at all, I just like what I've read about OGletree more. Especially in this system where his background as a safety will help him with the whole dropping into coverage every play.
-
Oops, i can see where you thought that...my bad. It was in reference to jay.
-
I said at least for a reason. I believe he'll have a year like the ones he had in Denver.
-
He's something like 17-6 in games he finishes over the last 2 years and he has one of the best records since he got here. I know that has a lot to do with the D but my statement remains true.
-
Woah, Twig is on my side? This feels weird....But yeah, what he said. It's just an intriguing dynamic that would be fun to watch. I can't even make a case for this...smh
-
There were still a lot of restrictions to the offense the last few years that the coaching staff alone can't fix. The line and the lack of a middle of the field option put a huge damper on the offense. The dynamic of Marshall over the top, Bennett working the middle, and Matt Forte underneath (basic principles of a WCO) is a recipe for success if you ask me. If Jeffery takes a step forward and stays healthy I'd be willing to bet that he at the very least has his best season as a Bear (which I know isn't much but we've won with him in the past with his sub par performances).

Swap out Jacobson for Joe Madsen and I'd be fine with this draft.
-
No because the scouting reports also tell me Ogletree>Brown. Only reason I watched Ogletree game tape was because someone here posted some and I just thought he was so dynamic that I wanted to see more. I tend to trust scouting reports because I assume the people making them have ya know, actually watched the games.

Davis had hands of stone and isn't in the same league as Martellus or Eifert. I'm certainly not pining for them to draft a TE at all I'm just saying it would be a very intriguing pick that would give us our own separate identity as a big physical passing team. I remember early in the offseason twig was giving me crap for wanting to be like the Saints and he doesn't wanna be the Saints, he wants to be the Chicago Bears. A move like this would give us that separate identity.....But it's not gonna happen.

Haven't watched any game tape but I read some great reviews from guys who I assume watched a lot of game tape and all the reviews have been pretty good. "Experts" seem to love him. I agree with Ogletree over Brown though, I have watched a lot of his game tape and love the guy.
-
Only 46 solo tackles in 13 games is also pretty weak...15 of those came in 2 games, so the other 11 he averaged 2.8, 31 total. Brown had 65 Ogletree had 64 in just 10 games.
-
Don't get me wrong now, I've been on record many times here saying that I like Bennett as the #3 and I agree with everything you said. The thought of having 2 big 6'6" TEs working the slot though is something that intrigues me a bit more than Earl. It can cause a ton of problems for opposing defenses.
-
I saw his big ol fro snapping to Barkley though....Could be a plus for the Bears as he may drop and could give them another option should they decide to take an OC. I think he'd be a good pick in the 5th round.
-
If you wanna make it about money sure I guess I can see cutting him...Everyone wants a new speedy slot receiver so I guess if you wanna look at it financially then everyone wants Earl gone. But the thing is, it appears as though having his contract on the books isn't prohibiting us from signing someone else so you can afford that kind of depth. In either scenario, drafting another big athletic TE or a fast slot WR, you're still gonna be in the same position with Bennett as your #4 making the money he's making
-
Robert Woods in the 2nd would be pretty badass. Hes a guy like Jeffery that was considered one of the best WR in the country but for whatever reason slipped into the 2nd.
-
Naw, you keep him around for depth. Right now it doesn't look like the Bears are going to need to cut anyone to free up space so cutting Earl would be a mistake.
-
I assume you're just being an ass??? You are on to why I would be excited though. Having The Beast and Eifert on one side and Bennett and Jeffery on the other is bound to create a mismatch somewhere. It's hard to say it wouldn't be intriguing and that it wouldn't cause headaches for opposing defenses....Extremely unlikely though like I keep saying

Ya there are a ton of reports out there similar to this one. I haven't read a single one that says he won't struggle in the pass game and that's why I question him as a RT and am calling him a RG....He gave up the most sacks in the SEC and we all agree that the SEC is the closest thing to the nfl in college. I'd say yes without hesitation. Another thing I noticed about Slausson is that early in his career he played some OC so maybe if James Brown develops into a solid LG they can potentially move Slausson inside??? Also the problem with Jones is teams are expecting him to start the year on the PUP list. That means he won't be able to go through training camp and he might have some of the strength concerns Carimi was having by being injured in the offseason...I think that's why he is falling down into the 4th rounds of many mock drafts, you can't really count on him to come in and contribute next year at all...With the Bears only having 5 picks I'm gonna pass on Jones unless he falls all the way to us in the 4th.
-
I've said quite a few times that I think its unlikely. But I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. Once again, if the Bears like Hayden or Bowman to man the nickle position then they can wait till the later rounds to grab a CB. Tillman-Jennings-Bowman-Hayden and then one of Frey/Lewis/McManis/4-5 draft pick is a pretty solid group of CBs. It doesn't leave them with a guy who potentially takes over for Tillman but I believe Tillman still has a few more years of high level play in him so it's not that pressing of a need this year. I'd be thoroughly intrigued and excited with an Eifert-Collins-Mathieu-Geathers-Madsen/Cave draft.
-
No, the fact that it's going to be a WCO doesn't mean they won't draft a TE. It's very doubtful though, esp with Evan Rodriguez on the roster....Denver ran a WCO when Jay was there and their 2 TEs combined for 72 catches and 1034 yards. It's all very unlikely but would be incredibly intriguing
-
Uh there was a post in this thread from NFL.com that said he could slide to RG and there are numerous reports sayings he's better off moving inside. This has been talked about on numerous occasions on the board....Having a massive body doesn't mean anything if you get off the ball slowly and are not athletic enough to regain a good position.

Chicago Bears @ChicagoBears 2m LM: #Bears have agreed to terms with quarterback Josh McCown on one-year contract.
-
Eh, I think Fluker would be better inside, I wouldn't mind the draft pick though. We all know I'm a Webb fan but I think Carimi and Fluker on the right side would be huge for the running game.
