No. He still has the potential to snag one of the spots on the right side. Scott was just resigned if Carimi takes the RG position. Also what are these new training camp rules you speak of?
-
Depends on the clubs thoughts on Carimi at RG, or maybe even their thoughts on Brown at RG. I'd really like to see them add an OC in the draft and then let Garza/Carimi/Brown all compete for RG while having Webb/Scott/Carimi compete for RT.
-
It all depends on the type of offense they run. The WCO works underneath throws to set up the deep ball. If teams are defending against the underneath pass then even the guys we have no have the ability to make plays down the field when Trestman calls for them to do so....I would like to see #4 added somewhere just in case theres an injury but I don't necessarily think he needs to be a burner. I wouldn't be against it at all and I do agree there's a better chance but I won't be against either choice.
-
Absolutely...I still don't think they go that direction but I wouldn't be against it. It depends on how big a need they feel a LB of a future is and if they think Bowman or Hayden are suitable as the nickle DB. If they feel they can wait till the forth or fifth for either then the option is there. If they can pull off a Eifert-Collins-Schwenke-CB-DT or a Eifert-Amerson-Schwenke-LB-DT or take a guy like Cave or Madsen in the 5th and switch the CB/LB pick to the 4th I can get behind that.

There we go! I mentioned him weeks ago as a cheaper option that I wanted. Here's what PFF had to say... 9. Matt Slauson 2012 Grade: +2.5 2012 Snaps: 834 Summary: Drafted in the sixth round in 2009, Slauson is one of the Jets’ few recent picks to actually overachieve his draft position. He held his own on one of the league’s top pass blocking units, and graded at +5.1 as a pass blocker after surrendering only 14 pressures on his 436 pass block attempts. However, he comes in ninth on this list due to a sub-par year in the running game that saw him grade at -4.2 for the season. Still, he’s graded in the green in all three years as a starter and he represents a respectable option the Jets would love to keep in town as he continues his development. He's our LG, no question. and he's a badass The draft is going to be hella interesting. Cant wait.

It certainly would lead to a dynamic passing offense but I can't see it happening.....MAYBE if we bring in an OG in FA which is still a certainly a possibility. If they bring in an OG then we don't have any clear 1st string needs to address so it could open the door for anything and everything. If Trestman wants 2 big TEs to run his offense then I'm down. It would be really tough for defenses to defend Marshall, Bennett, Eifert, and Alshon who are all 6'3" or taller. Teams would be forced to drop LBs into coverage which sets up easier matchups up front....I really do like the idea but I don't see it happening

I'd like that...What kind of scheme did the Panthers run that their Strong Side LB racked up so many tackles?? As for the 3-4 talks we all know I'm game. With the one year contracts to the 2 LBs we got it's really hard to say that just yet though. It does leave the door open to it next year with some new guys next year though. Maybe give SMC another year to see if he can play DE and if he doesn't grow then move on next year to him playing the rusg LB role.
-
Been on that track for awhile now IMO. If Trestman works out and can get Jay Cutler behind him I think the sky is the limit. and the thing about the needs you listed are that they are all pretty much backup/future roles sans OG. If our new LBs can stay on the field there is no doubt they are starting caliber players so any LB we draft is a backup this year. DT we just need another rotational piece I'd say to keep those DTs from getting tired. WR I believe we only need a situational speed #4. I see the Bennetts getting most of the time in the slot postilion. I don't necessarily think we need to upgrade from E. Bennett but I wouldn't be opposed to it. I really like where the Bears are as a team. The addition of Brandon Moore would be just fantastic and really set us up nicely for the draft.
-
I've read the same reports... Scouts also believe he's gonna start the year on the PUP list so that's probably another reason why he's slipping farther and farther back in the draft. With that you then have to consider he won't be able to participate in training camp and such and won't be at full strength for the whole year next year. When judging Bama O-lineman you also have to consider that they are a running team. Teams don't bring a lot of pressure because they have to defend the run. Would he hold up in the passing world of the NFL?? Thats where the questions come about for me....We have a guy in Gabe Carimi who earned some rewards as well coming out of a running offense and we all see where that has taken him. Jones very well could be a great center down the line considering how intelligent he is, he can really learn a lot at the NFL level. Can he be counted on to be a starter next year? Probably not with the injury.
-
To his credit they were facing a buzz saw in San Fran, at home on a national television. Josh McCown wouldn't have done any better.
-
#BringingRexyBack I wouldn't mind a 5th or 6th rounder on a QB Trestman likes. Matt Scott is a name I like in those rounds. From what I read he gets the ball out quick and he can do some things with his feet as well...They've done quite a bit in FA to make this a possibility.
-
The Hayden signing brings this to 7 days in a row....Wonder what tomorrow has in store for the Bears
-
I think moving back to the WCO he ran in Denver will get him back to his Denver numbers. The addition of Bennett will be a huge plus and utilizing Forte more in the pass game is gonna be a huge positive IMO. I really like the offense if they utilize it the way I think they will.
-
Nice, more depth at CB. I still would like them to draft a CB with one of the first 3 picks to develop while we still have Tillman and Jennings.
-
This is kind of a given. I have all the faith in the world in Jay Cutler to have a pretty good year next year, maybe more than I should have...The picks will still be there but I can see 4k yards and ~30 TDs this season.
-
We all know my thoughts on this but I don't see it happening.
-
They do happen...Theres a reason 11 teams were there scouting this guy. He may not get drafted but he could end up contributing somewhere. Could be the next Pierre Garcon or Cecil Shorts. If you take a look at his measurables they have listed in the link I provided he's in the top 10-15 in nearly all the categories you look for out of a WR. I wouldn't take him in the 6th but if we can pick up an extra 7 in a trade down I'd certainly think about it if they haven't already addressed the need earlier.
-
I made mention earlier in the offseason that I think Bennett, with his relationship with Cutler, would be a good fit in a WCO. A good QB/WR relationship is key in a WCO. All that said we still need depth behind him in case of injury. I'd rather let Hester walk for around the same savings to pick up Moore....Or try to extend Melton/Jennings/Peanut to make the Moore deal happen.
-
Like I said in another thread I'm now on board with a WR since Hester won't be used there. A first or 2nd round pick isn't necessarily the spot to get 1 but we should indeed grab on at some point. TE they are set, Bennett is a guy they can line up in-line or in the slot and ERod can be urilized in an H-back type role coming out of the backfield and such. Maneri fills in the Spaeth role and as a guy who potentially lines up as a FB as well The line is still very intriguing to me as there are so many directions they can go. If Cooper and Warmack are gone and they can't trade back I think Fluker could be an interesting pick. Throw him at RG and let Carimi and Brown battle for LG. A center should also be a necessity in the draft, Garza shouldn't be handed the job with competition. A backup QB is also a need and I'm not sure where they're gonna get one. I'd say just grab one of the scrapheap and let Trestman put his touch on him. OG/OC/WR in the draft would be dandy.
-
I'd rather not, what happens if one of the starters gets hurt? Weems would be our #3 unless they like one of the practice squad guys which is a possibility. With Hester not being utilized as a WR I am now on board with getting a WR in the draft but we shouldn't give Bennett the boot after drafting one. The depth is a plus, as is his familiarity with Cutler.
-
Or just extended him. Tillman and Jennings could also be extended to free up money for Moore who would really complete this offseason and set up quite the interesting draft.
-
Fantastic signing. Highly productive in 2 of the last 3 years and he was on his way to another one last year if not for a back injury...also look at these combine numbers.... Campus: 4.47 in the 40-yard dash … 385-pound bench press … 540-pound squat … 326-pound power clean … 41.5-inch vertical jump … Combine: 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash. … 40-inch vertical jump. … 10'04" broad jump. … Impressive athlete. If him and Williams play like they're capable of playing and stay healthy I think the LB corp can be borderline amazing.
-
I'd be down with that, NFL.com has him as the top graded LB in the whole draft. "Some will question his size, but Brown plays much bigger than his frame suggests due to strong hands and a physical attitude on contact." Navarro Bowman, a guy Brown is being compared to (perhaps only because of his size), is 6'0" and he's one of the best MLBs in the league. I've read a Ray Lewis comp as well, Ray is only 6'1".

2 good points there... Looking at the Duke Robinson situation now, it was 09, and an interesting story. I guess he sucked in the title game, got injured, and had questions about whether he'd be able to hold up against quicker lineman. He was indeed rated as the #1 interior lineman throughout the year so a fall into the 5th round is a surprise. Brown is another interesting case who from what I remember had a "Pot problem" which caused him to fall out of the draft. An interesting note on him that I didn't know until now is he lost 50 pounds during his time at Troy. Not something you'd expect from a stoner right? I'm holding out some hope for him. Monday or tuesday I'm gonna watch one of the games he started to "get more educated" on him as a player. Thomas has some concerns as well but they're more so concerns as an OT... Overall I agree, the OL is a tricky position to judge....Hell a month or so ago most the board was pining for Barrett Jones and now there are mocks that have him going in the 4th round. On another note, I have brought up Jasper Collins a few times in my mocks saying he's a potential steal....Here's another potential DIII steal the bears took a close look at that might see his way into future mocks of mine.... Draftteks mock is pretty goofy, that's Tavon....They also have Dallas Thomas going in the 6th round....EJ Manuel in the 4th...and Braxton Cave, the 5th ranked OC isn't drafted at all while TJ Johnson, the 9th ranked OC is drafted in the 4th.
