Wow, you just summed up my thoughts pretty good, in a more civilized way lol...Very well written sir. Mongo, I agree with your post as well
-
I mean are those not valid points? I think he's set up to have a much better year. I won't go as far as saying pro bowl though...I could just be a big time homer, like I'm known as on soxtalk, but I really do believe the points I just made are valid reasons as to why I expect Webb to make the jump from borderline average to at the very least "above average" if not good. If he's cut/riding the pine all year I'll be the first admit that I was wrong. I'll stick around and let you all blast me.
-
First I didn't crush Mathieu, and I thought I made that clear earlier. None of them are that big of an assumption IMO. Yes it is a big flippin deal that he's training harder than ever if he keeps it up the whole offseason. If he slacks off then no it's not a big deal. Unless Aaron likes James Brown, which is possible, there's no way we don't address LG. Brown in his 2nd year could be that guy but if not who the hell else would we put there? Even if Cooper or Warmack don't fall there are other guys in the draft that will be huge upgrades over the garbage we put out there last year....I mean...It was BAD last year. Chilo Rachal and Chris Spencer are awful players and even my homer ass can't defend them. I can't imagine they don't upgrade at TE with the way the position has been talked about so far this year. Kromer has taken other teams garbage and late round picks and made them look good. See- Brian De la Puente, Jermon Bushrod, Zach Strief, Jahari Evans, Jonathon Goodwin. All mid to undrafted players that he got the most out of.... Everything I read about him says he's a great coach that gets the most out of his players. I don't think it's an outrageous assumption to think he'll get more out him than Tice did. 1 good new pointer could stick with him and make him a better player. I can't see Trestman moving away too far from what his teams were successful at in the past. The WCO still works fairly well in the NFL and he's learned from the best in that area. No, but it's a damn good brain to pick is it not? Once again, 1 good pointer that sticks with him can take him to the next level. Everyone loves the idea of Jeffery training with Marshall right? It's kinda the same deal.

At some point the progression will end, I just think next year there are a lot of elements that will make him continue to progress. -Aaron Kromer..Don't come back at me with Mike Tice...His lines sucked in Minny too... -Using the RBs more in the pass game-It's gonna take some heat from the LBs off the line. LBs in a 3-4 are just about the only thing that killed him last year. -The TE- See above. I actually think it's better to send them out on pass plays than staying in to block. -A better LG- with the trash that was there last year the LT is vulnerable to bot inside and outside moves, something thats hard to check against explosive players like Matthews and Smith. -Marc Trestman- If Jay listens, chances are Marc will get him to get the ball out quicker. Which will make the whole line look better. -It's early but so far the drug bust looks like a reality check- Supposedly he's training harder than ever now. -Connecting with his cousin- Another excellent brain to pick, why he hasn't done it in this past is pretty dumb (yes, he's not the brightest crayon in the box but neither is Albert). In case you skipped over the article I posted Webbs cousin is a 1990s all decade OT. He's set up to have a good year and if he doesn't his contracts up. He'll have competition next year, no doubt, all I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if he wins the job and if he does I can see him improving. I really don't see why its hard to believe either.
-
He was thrown into the fire way to quickly...How many 7th rounders come in and play right away? You expect a good year from a 1st rounder. 7th rounders are nothing more than prospects, prospects take time to groom. He's already basically average. Add in so many new elements and he'll look better than average next year.
-
Sound like someone we know?? Some players take time to develop...the kid is 24. I understand wanting a player in their prime, I'd love to have 2012 or 08 Albert. Every Albert in between will get ripped here.
-
I guess posting basically the same numbers in their 2nd years at LT isn't comparable, Alberts 3rd year is comparable to Webbs season last year as well ...*Shrugs*
-
After a reality check maybe he's changed his ways. If you think Mathieu can shake it then you should think Webb can shake it. Sorry, I see a player who's still developing and I think it would be wise financially to see if he continues. I see a guy who's a good game plan against Matthews away from having a good season. KC didn't give up on their guy after he wasn't "good" and now that guy they didn't give up on is looking to make a good chunk o change.

Rotoworld... Plenty of cap space?? WHAAA?? Longs injuries scare the hell outta me.
-
You made it sound like Honey Badger has proved something...which he hasn't yet. The NFL is a different animal and until he proves it in the NFL he hasn't proved anything. I'm not bashing Honey Badger at all, he could be a great player with great player in the mid rounds and we all know my stance on a lil weed. If you're gonna bash one player for smoking, you should bash them all.
-
Why because I have too much time to find and make valid arguments? (EDIT- But if you can find me a job I'll take it lol =p I'm in NWI)
-
Ya because Mathieu has proved himself already in the NFL....
-
If we use the Saints blue print we'll be targeting G's over T's.....The Saints have used mid-late round players at T's...The Saints scheme was, hold steady up the middle, and the tackles just set the pocket by forcing them to the outside...If they try to go inside there's your stud LG to help out.
-
Albert didn't "Take a GIANT step" in his 3rd year. He gave up 1 less sack and committed the same number of penalties in 1 less game than Webb. The similarities are eery actually. Albert was a year younger than Webb in his 3rd year...Why? because he had to redo a year of high school...Talk about not having it in the head. As for the bold part..For the last time....I have said 50 billion times that there will be new bodies for a competition....Bushrod is getting recognition because his LG is one of the best in the league. I've read numerous reports that he's just riding on the coattails of Grubbs and previously Nicks, 2 stud LGs. Hmm you mean a LG elevates the play of a LT and Dan Pompei wasn't the only one to say it? Hmm, go figure....I've also said 50 billion times that I'll gladly take Albert if the funds are there, his back would scare me and his penalties are gonna piss all you off but sure if we have the money, sign em up.

First and foremost let me repeat again that I believe no one on the line has their job set in stone. There will be competition all around but with the lack of money it won't be top end talent that will come in and take over right away without some competition. All I made was a case for Carimi, if his claim of not being able to get up to full strength is true and he comes in stronger then he deserves a shot at RT. If he can get stronger and improve his pass blocking he's an ideal RT with his ability in the run game. When you're as bad as Rachal and Spencer were, yes, you do make your LT look a lot worse and yes, placing a good guard WILL elevate the play of the LT...Like Dan Pompei said a stud OG lifts up the play of the whole OL.

Why would I jump on someone elses wagon when I'm presenting a valid argument on Webb. I'm sorry that I see something you guys refuse to believe because you're being bias and naive. What has been your guys main gripe with Webb?? The pressure he puts Jay in and his penalties right? I heard him called False start Webb or something along those lines...Albert had 2 more false starts in 2 less games. So are we gonna call BA Branden "False Start" Albert? He certainly garnered the name more than Webb last year did he not? And the pressures, well, the article in this very thread harps about BAs 96 pressures over 3 years. Would JWebb not project to less than that in a comparable(about same age/same year at position) 3 year stand? That's if he stays at the same level he was last year. Next to a competent LG he'll next another step forward. The back is also a valid issue with Albert Once again...Is BA better now?? Yes. My point is it's not crazy to think he can develop into a player of Alberts level....I accept Twig stating that he wants a guy already in his prime like Albert is. I've said in every post that I'd like Albert but we simply don't have the money. The chances of a rookie not named Johnson, Fischer, or Joeckel come in a give us a better year than Webb gave us last year is slim, but like I've said in the past I would welcome the competition just so it shuts you guys up.
-
And you just ignored my point. Alberts 2nd year at LT, age 25 G Pen Yds F.Start Holding Sacks Yds 14 10 63 6 2 9.00 63.50 Webbs 2nd year at LT, age 24 G Pen Yds F.Start Holding Sacks Yds 16 7 49 3 3 9.00 59.00 (PFW has Webb with 9 sacks, I've seen it elsewhere he had 7?) I don't know how many pressures Albert gave up that year so all I can do is average out his 3 year total of 96 to come up with 32...3 more than Webb gave up. Yes, Albert is better right now, though his back is a huge concern, but I don't think it's crazy to think Webb can get on Alberts level...esp playing next to a better LG than Chilo "I got laughed outta SF twice" Rachal and a player we all believe is worse than Webb Chris Friggin Spencer. I wonder if Chief fans we're giving up on him that year.
-
It's hard to argue his numbers aren't moving in the right direction, and if you project his age 24-26 seasons and year 2-4 at LT and compare them with Alberts age 25-27 and year 2-4 at LT it's naive to think that at the very least his pressures and penalty totals won't be better than Alberts. Pressures and penalties are 2 of the biggest gripes I've seen people have with Webb. Like I've always said I'm cool with Albert if they have the funds...But since they're really hurting for funds I'm cool with JWebb playing out the last year of his contract and continuing to improve, hopefully next to a competent LG.
-
Maybe not "really really good" but good? Yes. Those numbers I posted can confirm that....I don't wanna say he's as good as or better than Albert because that just sounds dirty but those numbers are there. Alberts 09 year, the year the article was touting, he was 25. Webb last year was 24. It was also Alberts 2nd year at LT. So once again if his pressures stay around the same he'll have produced better totals at nearly the same age and the same year at LT....His penalty total could also be better and to elaborate on the last numbers I threw out there for his 3 year total of penalties, Albert had 6 in 13 games. Webb? 7 in 16. Once again it just sounds dirty to say he's better than Albert so I'm not gonna say that, but if continues to play like he did this year I do believe he very well could be on par with him.

http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/a...e/p2p-74637432/ Check, check, this is reality checking. I know it's cousin, so take it with a grain of salt, but former All Decade team OT Richmond Webb had this to say
-
Maybe we can trade Pep to one of the teams with a lot of cap room for a 2nd rounder+? Would that wipe his contract off the books?
-
Ah, Gotcha. I thought he was just talking about last year. My bad Still though if it was recently, his mediocrity could be attributed to old age. A guy like Levitre still has 4--5 more good years in him.
-
Hutchinson was also 35 years old, ya gotta expect mediocrity, or old age, to hit at some point. I assume you mean David Decastro, who they got in the draft and not FA. Most rookie lineman take a lil bit to come around.
