Word out in the twitersphere is the bears and Melton are on "on opposite ends of the world'' on a new deal." so that sounds like he's looking to get paid either way. Ya there's gotta be some restructuring/extending in the works. You can only do so much in the draft and with UDFAs so something has got to happen.
-
Henry Melton @HenMel Good to be a Bear for another year hopefully we can get a long-term deal done soon! #BearDown #FranchiseTag Hurts a lil but glad to have him around for at least another year. If the reports that Collins will be tendered are true that's 9.7M of the ~12 spent already(on 2 DTs), throw in the the 3-5M for the rookie pool and we're probably in the negative...with quite a few holes to fill. Get to restructurin Phil!

It's looking likely that this happens. I hope not though.

Like I said it's all on what the coaching staff and FO thinks of Carimi....2013 Carimi could be an upgrade of 2012 Carimi if the whole offseason work out thing holds any truth. If Kromer thinks he'll be a good option then I'd rather invest the money else where....If he thinks Carimi will be nothing more than a OG and last year wasn't a mirage then I'm game for Loadholt. I'm surprised you and terra haven't jumped on my back for the Webb/Albert comparisons.
-
I have no interest in paying ample money to a RT...but I'm also hoping Carimi can take a stronghold on the position, if the FO doesn't follow the same line of thinking then sure.
-
The 3 technique is pretty important in this defense unless they start bringing some heat from the LBs, if Melton is gone they need to get a guy who can get to the QB on the interior...Richardson from what I'm reading could be that guy.
-
So if Webb keeps his pace of 29 pressures up he will give up 87 pressures over a 3 year period. 9 less than the 96 that this article is touting. Pretty interesting stuff. Also, In the same time period the article touted, Albert had 27 penalties...Webb over the last 3 years? 26. Intriguing.
-
I've also noted numerous times that any LT they bring in will be garbage next to the garbage we had at LG. So I'm also decreasing everyones stock by talking about the ways other people can hurt them. So I'm consistent in my view that we need a LG over a LT....If they can get Albert AND a LG in the draft then great. If we have a guy with the talent level of Rachal who got laughed outta San Fran then once again destroyed by San Fran and quit his job or Chris Spencer who everyone can agree was just dreadful at LG then the LT will once again be set up for failure.
-
The article mentions Albert gave up 96 pressures the last 3 years...a 32 a year average...JWebb according to an ESPN article gave up 29 pressures.... Just an interesting thing I noticed, not trying to say he's better so don't jump all over me. There could be a misprint and it should read 09-12 instead of 09-11.

I'm not so sure about that sir. Are you keeping Melton in this scenario??

You must have missed the discussion a few weeks ago of me stating the same thing and people jumping down my throat about it..But ya it's true. He made the pro bowl on the coattails of his LG and QB getting the ball out quick.

Mongo has a breakdown on how bad Webb was with stats
scs787 replied to ASHKUM BEAR's topic in Bearstalk
Seriously...What did Chilo Rachal and Chris Spencer rank? I really think he can take a bigger jump than 3 spots next to a even a better LG. -
1. Clady is going no where 2. Long, at his price tag, and with his injury history...I'll pass 3. Albert, I've said it before, if he fits in the budget with Melton, I'm down. 4. Vollmer's a RT. Meh 5. Bushrod, well we all know my thoughts on him. 6. Beatty....He gone

What did out LG rank since you seem to have the numbers? He's still developing and can improve on his own in his 3rd year at LT, and then when you add in a capable LG his play elevates even more. -
Why didn't he run the shuttle is what I wanna know. That's a more tell all on OT play and him not participating makes it seem like he's hiding something. The whole giving up the most sacks in the SEC is pretty shocking and raises a red flag to me.
-
Where are you seeing this?? CBS says he didn't even participate in the cone and shuttle drill....Which is odd....Yes, their 40 times are .01 apart but that doesn't really tell you much. Joeckel was ranked 8th in the shuttle and 2nd behind Johnson in the cone drill. I wouldn't say he's a sure thing RT. I just read that he gave up the most sacks in the SEC last year by a wide margin and that sure sounds like a concern to me. He's a mauler in the run game though. We already have a 1st round player like him at RT though.

Si senor, those are all 3 year stats and it doesn't tell you how much he's improved, it just shows you how awful he was the previous 2 years. -
Wow, he's being asked to play some TE....He'd be living out my dream lol a 300 pound TE. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...ht-end/related/ As for the thread...I think he'll be a project player. Won't really be able to start at LT right away. Would I take him in the 2nd? depending on what we do in FA, maybe.

Thats some excellent, complete analyzing...Man my mind just changed...cut his ass now. -
According to some reports ~1/2 the league thinks so. But I guess half the league is immature. Given what he had next to him he did an average job. I don't care how much it gets ripped, PFF had him ranked as a slightly above average pass protector last year. You put that slightly average pass protection next to a guy worth a damn and he becomes a good pass protector, for much less than Brandon Albert. Example, Bushrod was an awful pass protector yet Carl Nicks and later Ben Grubbs made him a Pro Bowler. Jonathon Cooper is being touted, by a well respected draft analyst, as an elite level OG, put him next Webb and I believe the left side of line is fixed.
-
And despite what you people think he performed better after the push happened. You guys are never gonna quit till he's named the starter next year and then I'm gonna leave the board again because all I'm gonna hear is more and more bitchin and moaning about a player who has developed like damn near every 7th round pick that has ever became anything. For the 10th time there will be competition in camp, there's no question about that, and Webb will be apart of that competition whether you all like it or not. Marijuana is used by a LARGE portion of the NFL, is it illegal? in most states, yes. Is it legal to have it Chicago??? Kinda. Unless you're dealing, or for whatever reason are carrying around 400 dollars worth of weed, you're only gonna get a fine.. Is it something that is gonna make an NFL player lose their job?? absolutely not. No matter the talent level. The only reason you people are making that big a deal of it is because it happened to everyones favorite whipping boy.

According to the article there's a source telling them this. So to me that's more than just putting 2 and 2 together. A source is typically someone with inside information.
-
Haha, I thought you'd like it. My point is if the front office frowned upon pot so much do you think they'd give a backup (albeit a utilized backup, sure) who smokes/smoked 1.33M? I wasn't, lemon was. My point is your point.

Anything can happen this year, I doubt anyones position is solidified at this point with Kromer coming in. This all very well could happen but I'm not so sure it'd be ideal. Garza hasn't exactly been that good at OC which is supposed to be an easier position and he's getting up there in age. LG is a more demanding position, I'd rather draft the young guy with huge upside,Cooper in the first and let him win the job. Also for a guy who wants to improve the OL you sure are stickin with a lot of the same guys(so far you've said you want Carimi-Garza-Spencer-?-?) . Switching their positions might do something but not that much.
-
He'll have to solidify his starting position in camp. This incident won't solidify him out of the starting position, he's still gonna be given a chance to win the job and there should be no bias because of this. If he's the best player, then he's the best player. I understand being old school, but ya gotta face it, we're living in an era where weed is not a big deal. If it were they wouldn't have dropped Webbs charges and Nate Collins wouldn't be getting paid 1.33M for our beloved Bears. I'm taking this another way as far as the training in Texas goes. Now I don't know his off season schedule but I don't think he planned to start so soon. I'm taking this as the bust was a reality check and now he's gonna train harder. His latest tweets before the bust said he was on vacation, so he wasn't in the midst of his offseason training program or anything. I don't think he just ironically began it on a Wednesday after getting busted for pot, I think he was just hit with a reality check that forced him to get his shit together right then and there.
