  1. Drafttek has Austin going in the 3rd.
  2. I haven't said anything about the blocking scheme this year. I've said the offensive scheme as a whole will make the Bears OL better next year. Getting the ball out quick and utilizing the backs is what I've been stressing. I just saw a guy who was getting pushed backed going 1 on 1, but once again this was against a massive man so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that video may not be the best video to go by as there's not many 6'6" 377 pound guys in the NFL. Guys have to be able to go 1 on 1 in the NFL. I'll trust the experts in thinking he's not as good as I previously thought.
  3. He was Auburns 2nd leading receiver the last 2 years...but that doesn't say a lot, at all. He was 2nd on the team with a grand total of 18 rec last year and 32 the year before. Auburns O has been just awful post Cam Newton. He's projected to go in the 7th-UDFA....If he goes undrafted I'd love to grab him as our #3. He's also looks like a pretty good return man.
  4. I brought his name up yesterday, Onterio McCalleb could be worth a look as a UDFA if he makes it there. He's the fastest RB in the draft and was quoted talking about his hands and the ability to play in the slot so he obviously likes to catch the ball and is confident in his hands.
  5. Ya, I'm a Cooper fan as well. He offers the same versatility to move to OC after Garza moves on or is switched back to OG that Jones would give us. I'm growing on Dallas Thomas as well if we decide to grab a LB in the first.
  6. Also no one caught my mistake of saying Bush was a FA after next year....oopsies, coulda sworn he only got a 2 year contract. I guess this changes my thoughts a little bit. I still like the dynamic of a guy with the speed of Barner coming out of the backfield...Maybe not so much in the 4th but I absolutely wouldn't hate the pick. With the speculated addition of a pure FB I wouldn't mind dangling Bush out there for some draft picks and letting the FB handle short yardage situations. But then again if Forte goes down a guy like Barner can't really be relied on as a feature back. He'd be a luxury to have as a #3 and a kick returner but I'm not sure the Bears can afford a luxury just yet
  7. I forgot to address this as I was a bit confused...PFF had a asterisk after Spencers name and the * is described as followed I take it as he is under contract for next season but it can voided thus freeing up money. I'm not confident on that at all as whats the difference between cutting him like every player can be and voiding his contract?
  8. He looks like he gets a lot of help and when he doesn't he gets pushed back. And Tennessee is not very good. It's all very interesting stuff to me, I thought for sure this guy was a stud. EDIT that video may be a bad one to go off of. #98 on Tennessee is a 6'6" 377 monster who probably garners a double team no matter who you throw out there.
  9. Zierlein even went as far as to say he'll be a 4th rounder. Interesting stuff. The weakness section on his NFL. com draft profile is pretty lengthy.... WEAKNESSES Limited athlete who will be at his best on the inside at the next level. Tends to stop his feet and lunge at pass rushers on the edge. Top-heavy, upright runner on pulls without great foot speed. Gets to the second level well, but can struggle tracking and adjusting to moving targets. Quicker linebackers and defensive backs jump around his lunges if he is unable to get his hands on their numbers. Inconsistent firing out of his stance and staying low on short-yardage plays. Hand placement improved in his senior season, but he has soft hands with a limp punch. Doesn’t play with a mean streak. Can get complacent and will fight for initial position, but doesn’t finish blocks and allows his man to disengage too often. Prone to making his initial block and then ball-watching instead of finding a second target. Has a lengthy injury history (but shows the toughness to play through them) and will need to check out medically. CBS said this.. WEAKNESSES: Doesn't blow defenders off the ball with pure strength. Not a flashy athlete and may struggle to excel at the NFL level. I think 3rd and 4th round projections might be a little out there but it's not absurd to thin he could be there for our pick in the 2nd.

    Manti Te'o

Since the only college team I watched every game of was Northwestern all I have to base my decisions on is scouting reports and youtube. The scouting reports tell me this... Youtube tells me quite a few of his 7 INTs were "luck" which checks out with the bold statement above. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJfkFuJDPd4 (2012 highlights, all his ints are there) And the fact that we're gonna be running a similar D, which I assume means the boring MLB drop backs into coverage, tells me he might not be a great fit here in Chicago. I think I'd rather have Roach at MLB.
  11. Well much like the WR argument we had, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  12. I get your point but my point is why not copy them? We have a better run game them yes so in that regard we can be even better than the Saints. Bush will be gone after next year, it'd be nice to have a RB in the system to come in and be the back up next year.
  13. Is it not a good model to go off of?
  14. I just don't think Barner would mainly be used on ST. I think they can use a rotation of guys like the Saints did and use Barner like Sproles. Bush is also a FA next year and Barner can be a dynamic back with the FB being your short yardage back.... The injury argument is valid but can be valid all around the field. Forte has been hurt a lot lately and in a system that will utilize the back so much you'd have to rely on Allen or Bell a lot should Forte go down. I like utilizing a rotation of guys in the backfield to keep them fresh.
  15. Eh, he's 2 inches shorter than Ogletree (1in shorter than Te'o) and they weigh the same. From what I read, he's got good coverage skills and can cover the whole field. I think he'd do fine. Here's a nice write up on Brown.. IMO, and the stats back it up, Roach did well when he moved inside. I wouldn't mind him playing there. I think between the 2 you can come up with a good combo.
  16. Watching Boyce's highlights and looking at his game logs (8 catches of 60+ yds) I believe he can be a deep threat....He also looks like a good fit in a WCO.
  17. Ah yes, I'm not sure of the money but they can indeed free up some money by voiding Spencers contract... Once again I still really don't understand the NFL cap but Spencers Cap hit last year was 4.25M, base salary of 2.75, signing bonus of a mill, and a 500k bonus. I'm not sure what that all means, or if it really means anything since it was last years contract.
  18. Says the guy who wants to give Jermon Bushrod 7 mill a year. Here's some fun little stats to throw at you... Bushrod was the 45th ranked tackle when it came to pass block efficiency. Webb? 35th. Bushrod gave up a hurry every 15.7 snaps. Webb? 20.5. So ya, there's that.
  19. I can understand not wanting a #3 RB in the 4th but to me this a case of another WR in the 2nd kinda deal only I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum now. It's all a matter of a opinion but I think a #3 RB like Kenjon Barner will play a bigger role than a #4. I understand the arguments of a guy like Tavon Austin not being a #4 but I like our #1-3 in the WCO. I know we're not gonna be the Saints but it's a good offense to model off of and with Kromer coming over it's a valid comparison. The Saints had a rotation of guys who all got their share of targets and carries in the offense. Barner gives us our version of Darren Sproles who can be explosive in the passing game out of the backfield. It's my dirty little pick.
  20. That would be another scenario to go with. It's really hard to tell though. Grabbing an extra 6th would be nice too. I was selling it short above not including the extra pick we may receive. It wouldn't change my draft that much though. The WF draft I was looking at had Warford gone at 36. Warford would be the pick if he's there. I'd go Jones/Warford/Thomas in that order depending who is available. They're all said to be good pass blockers and that's what I'm lookin for.
  21. Ugh, you're right....Man whoever said the Bears had enough cap to do whatever they want is a buffoon. Phil is gonna have some work to do signing Tillman, Marshall, and maybe Jay to an extension to free up some more $$.
  22. This Board is dead and it's killing me...I'm literally watching bowling right now. Lol. I'm gonna pull a Terra and post me up a good ol mock. Cut Hester, Davis, and Spaeth...I believe that (~7M) along with the 3 mill carried over and the 13 we already have gives us 23M to work with Resign- Melton- 8 Roach-3 Moore-2 Hayes-1 Okoye-2 Sign Andy Levitre 7 Draft Trading down in the first would be a fantastic thing, with the depth of the OL in the draft class I think we can venture into the low 1st high 2nd and still get a good piece. It's tough to really tell who might be interested in trading up so I'll just throw out a random team with 2 3rd rounders...Let's say we trade down with the Phins. 2R #42 - Dallas Thomas G/T Tennessee- To play RG 2R #50 - Arthur Brown LB K State- 54s replacement 3R #77- Gavin Escobar TE San Diego St.- Huge need and a great get in the 3rd IMO 4R #114- Kenjon Barner RB Oregon- Like I said yesterday, I'd love this pick 5R #146- Josh Boyce WR TCU- Here's your deep threat #4 WR 6R #178- Manese Foketi OT West Texas A&M Not only am I supporter of Webb at LT, I'm grabbing another West Texas A&M LT...No I am not a West Texas A & M Alum lol. Report on Foketi- I know no one will like the fact that I have Webb at LT but this is where I'm at pre FA.
  23. Yup, some team will take a chance on him in the 1st no doubt. You take him from being around a bunch of college kids to being around a group of professionals and chances are he'll shape a little bit.
  24. Maybe now we can trade down and get him
  25. Unless a team wants to take a future pick it'll be hard to trade up. Trading down out of the 1st for a 2nd and 3rd would be fantastic. There's a ton of OL depth this year and that's what we need, trading down into the high 2nd round you're still gonna get a high quality OL piece and you pick up more picks to play with. That's really the best case IMO. If they can't get it done and can't grab Barner another guy to keep an eye on is Onterio McCalleb. He's faster than Barner and had this to say... “My plan is to go the NFL Combine and run the fastest time. “But I have hands, too. I’m not necessarily just a running back. I can play slot receiver.” Right now he's slotted in the 7th round so he could be a good 6th round pick as our #3 RB. Armando Allen and Kahlil Bell are both slower backs like Bush so an added speed element in the back field would be a plus.
