I just think a 2nd round pick is too soon, thats all. Tavon Austin is a good player I can't deny that but I like the 3 guys we got. In a west coast offense the most important thing to have is chemistry with your QB, Bennett and Marshall have that with Jay and Alshon is staying in his role. Also, I don't see why 3 possession receivers is a bad thing. It's not like these guys run the same routes and it's not like they all can't go deep. For years before M. Muhammad the Bears were dying for a possession receiver. Joe Morgan was the Saints fastest reciever, their #4 which is what the new guy should be was on the field 30% of the time and caught 10 balls....Often being used as a decoy....You can get a player like that in the 5th or 6th round. .

There is no taking the top off the defense in a west coast offense. You kill teams with the underneath passes, forcing corners and safeties to move in and thats when you have guy CBs getting "flat footed" expecting them to break it off and guys going deep. I'm not against it, at all, I'm just saying one in the early rounds or free agency isn't needed. That's my 2 cents.

He separated from the receiver in those 23 yards didn't he? That colts game was against Vontae Davis who is a very good DB. Him, and Marshall can make plays deep down the field. They may not get ridiculous separation like Hester can but it's not like they cant make big plays.

Or this one.... http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap20000001...-out-to-Jeffery Or what about this one.... http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap20000001...-yard-touchdown he also caught one for 30 yards in that game.

And they can get their Joe Morgan speedster to catch 10 passes in the 6th round....I'm not saying they don't need another receiver, I'm saying they don't need to waste a top pick on a guy in the 2nd. I've seen every game, they need a TE way more than they need someone to "blow the roof off". We're moving to a west coast offense, the dink and dunk will open things up down the field for all our guys including Marshall.

I didn't mention Meachum because he wasn't part of my argument, I was comparing last years team. If Devery Henderson is a deep threat then why can't Alshon? I'm sure Henderson doesn't run a that 4.41 he did 10 years ago, Jeffery ran a fresh 4.44/4.45. Lance Moore is more of a deep threat on the Saints and he ran a 4.55. For your last little comment, I've said in almost every one of my posts in this thread that they can spend a 5th or 6th on another WR. My point in all this is they don't need to spend a high pick or spend big money on a WR. Jeffery had catches of 55, 42, 35, and 30.
-
Yup, Devery Henderson with his 22 REC, 21 yards per game, and a 40 time that was .04 better than Jefferys 10 years ago....Jeffery averaged more YPC than Devery so your point is invalid from that standpoint.
-
The dinks and dunks are what open things up for the passing game to take deep shots. It brings the safeties in and keeps the corners on their toes waiting for the receiver to break it off. Look at Lance Moore, he ran a 4.55, yet he was 10th in the league with 16 yards per catch. Speed isn't everything, scheme is.

Plus he should have new TE and/or Evan Rodriguez I think people are really underestimating the factors the backs will play in the passing game. (In my opinion anyway) The Saints, valid comparison, had- Marques Colston- 83 REC- 4.50- 7th Round Lance Moore- 65 REC- Ran a 4.55- UDFA Devery Henderson-22REC- 4.41- 2 RD Joe Morgan- 10 REC- 4.40- UDFA RB/FBs- 143 REC! no other WR had more than 10 REC. No, we probably won't get anyone near as good as Jimmy Graham but they don't really have anyone near Brandon Marshall. You don't need 5 good WRs or even 4 to have an explosive offense. The above also shows you can find talent in the later rounds as 3 of the 4 Saints WRs were either 7th round draft picks or not drafted at all. I'm calling for a 5th or 6th round pick.

A TE and the Backs will be your new receivers. Joe Anderson looks like he could be a good WR too. Throw in a late draft pick and you're all good.

Already acknowledged that most of the guys i had listed were ST guys, but there's a few guys like the Arizona State guys that were WRs used in the offense...Perhaps AZ can enlighten us on them since he commented on the the ASU guy we just signed yesterday (I assume he watches them a bit). I wasn't so much as comparing the 2 WR corps as I was trying to say speed isn't everything. The Pack had slower WRs than us and they did pretty good right? I think the 5 wide you speak of that they used included Finley because their 5th WR had 8 receptions. If we can grab a speedy TE (I would wet myself for Gavin Escobar or Toilolo) and grab a 5th rounder to be the #5 receiver there's your 5 wide set. Evan Rodriguez, who's faster than Finley could probably line up outside but I have this feeling he'll be used as an H-Back who will play a role in the pass game. Look, I'm not saying I'll be mad or anything if they grab a FA WR or take one in the later rounds (even the 4th I'm fine with) but 1st or 2nd no thank you. With the way Trestman likes to utilize the backs if we can grab a TE then we have plenty enough weapons to spread the ball around.

It's a lot of special teams guys now that I look at it but there's still potential in them. All you really need is for them to be a threat. I don't think a big down the field play maker is huge enough need take one in the 2nd or spend any kind of money on. Here's some fun facts, Alshon Jefferey has a better 40 time than Randall Cobb, James Jones, and Jordy Nelson....Greg Jennings had a better 40 by .03. Jordy Nelson was GBs deep threat (15 ypc) and he ran a slower 40 than Bennett 4.51 vs 4.48.

Ah yes I'm seeing now where it says it's unofficial.
-
Yes, I know of all those guys. I don't need to watch videos of them....Somebody is gonna pay those guys some money that I'd rather not spend on our #6 option.
-
Well 1, Knox didnt exactly have great hands and 2. He too was a 5th rounder....so if you want a guy like Johnny Knox you're looking at a small school guy in the late rounds. You can get any of these guys in the 6th and maybe even UDFA. Tyler Shaw- Northwest Missouri State 4.25 Speed Charles Hawkins- Southern 4.24 Reggie Dunn- Utah 4.28 Jessie Grandy- Central Arkansas 4.30 Skye Dawson- TCU 4.32 Rashad Ross- ASU 4.32 Travis Harvey- Florida A&M 4.32 (6.2") Lindsey Lamar- SFU 4.32 Daymond Patterson- Kansas- 4.34 Jamal Miles- ASU 4.34 Quincy McDuffie- UCF 4.35 One of these guys can be the next Johnny Knox.
-
You can still get another OL piece and a WR in the 5th and the 6th. I just wouldn't wanna over pay for the 6th target, you can get a guy who runs a 4.3 in the 6th round and there's your deep threat. Also it's not like our guys are slow. Jeffery has a 4.38 listed and Bennett a 4.43.
-
I'd rather we not pay more than a mill for a #4 receiver who all in all will be the #6 option in the offense. Give me a 5th or 6th round draft pick unless we can pick up an extra pick somewhere along the way. I think the first 3 picks should be used on OL, LB, and TE in any combination, if we can add an extra pick then you can throw in a WR as a bonus.

Ya, I think that scouting report was from high school haha oops. He does have speed though, could be a gunner or something on special teams.
-
Spent some time on the Cowboys active roster picking up an INT. http://www.houseofsparky.com/2009/2/10/755...-roundup-lequan EDIT- I meant to get rid of the ...WR, I saw he played 9 games in college at WR but I really doubt he gets moved to WR.
-
The bold never happened but I'm sure he could if needed just because of how bad Davis was....Spaeth had a grand total of 10 targets last year with 3 of those coming against the Texans in week 10. He caught them all, those 3 catches accounted for half of his catches on the year.....After those 3 targets/catches in week 10 he managed a whole 2 targets more in 7 weeks.

I actually think I put my foot in the bucket there and was thinking Oregon when I saw Oregon State. I Still really like Goodwin though, he had been training for the olympics all year and wasn't able to practice with the team much. I believe that lead to the team not really having in the game plan as much. When I see his highlight films I see a guy wilt world class speed (literally) who gets a good read on the ball (something Hester doesn't do). I reckon either will do but if you want speed why not get the fastest?
-
I wouldn't mind him staying but I think we can bring in a blocking TE for dirt cheap. What it all boils down to is..Is Spaeths run blocking ability worth 1.5 mill over a guy like Brody Eldridge who can give you a lot of the same thing and ~500k?
-
If I'm not mistaken that number is more towards 24 than 21 if they cut Davis, Spaeth, and Hester.
-
I'm hesitant to take a Oregon State WR, esp one who's said to have alligator arms. If Goodwin puts all his focus into football (Didn't fully practice in 2012 due to the olympics) I think he ends up being the better player.

Pick #67 is the 3rd round(and AZs pick is 69)...If thats what you meant and AZ would do that I'd love it. 3 picks in the top 70 over 3 in the top 120 would be fantastic. I like the positions you're goin with but I'd change the players. 38- Larry Warford OG 50- Arthur Brown LB 69- Marquise Goodwin WR (I know I just contradicted my statement about getting our #5 or 6 WR in the 5th or 6th) 114- Levine Toilolo TE
