Free agent with injury concerns..If he's healthy he could be brought back "cheap" making the OL a whole lot more confusing. I don't care how much it gets bashed but I think Webb, Carimi, and Garza will all be on the line next year. If Louis is back and healthy that's 4 guys, I'd still love Levitre who has looked rock solid at LG and LT which is a huge plus.
-
I'd be pretty surprised if teams go over 8M...Its possible but I kinda doubt it. I'm not sure how good Levitre is exactly. Is he the best OG in the league??? Carl Nicks is the highest paid with some weird contract where his cap hit was 14M his first year then 3M the next (a base salary of 6.5 then 715,000). Logan Mankins, the 2nd highest paid OG got 5.5M his first year then 7M his next. I know teams have more money now but is he gonna get paid more than every other OG in the league??
-
Look at the game logs for Nick Roach. When he had to move inside he put up numbers comparable to Brians #s at MLB. Jones and Warford are still sitting in almost all drafts.
-
Yet another reason to restructure/backload some contracts.
-
I think it all depends on how much restructuring some contracts would free up. Kromer has had success working with mid round draft picks so that's a plus. Freeing up enough money to bring back Roach would be big too, he played well at MLB when 54 was hurt. They'd have to hit on starting OG, LB, TE, and some depth. Using the Cincy trade down another poster proposed days ago and the 4 RD mock WF has up... RD2 37- Barret Jones/Larry Warford/Dallas Thomas/Kyle Long RD2 50- Arthur Brown LB K State RD3 87- Gavin Escobar TE S.D, State RD4 114- Oday Aboushi/Terron Armstead OTs Would be a great start to that.
-
If they cut the Hester/Davis/Spaeth group they will have near 21 mill...With all the room they have next year they can restructure a contract or 2 for even more...I think they can work out 8 Mill to Andy and 8 or 9 to Melton.
-
120M I believe, so not that big of a deal.
-
I give him as much as we can that still allows us to resign Melton. He's a stud
-
My thoughts on him are out there, I'm not gonna address this again. Demetrious Bell is a bigger joke than Webb
-
He lost his LT job to King Dunlap so no surprise here. This means Dunlap will prob be resigned.
-
According to rotoworld he'll be hitting the market... With the talks about the stress being on Guards Andy is the guy I want. He also played a little bit of LT last year and I hear he played it well. If they HAVE to kick him out there because Webb doesn't continue to improve then the possibility is there. Then trade down in the first to grab Barrett Jones who offers you even more versatility. Webb-Levitre-Garza-Jones-Carimi If Webb continues to grow, and Carimi was truly only terrible because he wasn't able to workout due to injury then I think that could be a pretty solid line....If James Brown also continues to grow then when Garzas time has passed you can move Jones to OC and Brown to RG and have a young OL for years to come.

Again, if Lovie had a big hand in selecting the offensive players then whoever is allowing him to do so should get the brunt of the blame for allowing him to do so. From what I'm reading it was Turners idea that Hester was going to be a "#1 WR". It was then Martz that hosed up the TE position, then it was Tice who hosed up the line by saying he was ok with it.
-
The bold is exactly my point, he brought in guys like Ron Turner who said Hester should be a #1 receiver, Mike Martz who doesn't use a TE, and Mike Tice who liked the line as is. We're on the same page here really, I agree with everything about the offensive play calling. It all comes back to Lovies inability to bring in a competent OC.
-
Lovies inability to find a competent OC was his downfall. It was never confirmed he was the one "doing all the shopping" but if he was the one responsible for signing offensive guys then thats a fault on someone higher up. You can't allow a defensive guru being "instrumental" in signing offensive players. 20 mill of that 64M was split between 5 players that did virtually nothing Hester, Davis, Spaeth, Cambell, and Spencer....
-
Uh you mean Jerry Angelo? Lovie didn't hand out those contracts.
-
About half indeed. Cutting Hester would free up 2.9, Davis 2.4, and Spaeth 2 Mill, so roughly 7 mill to go along with the roughly 13 mill they already have....Spencer is a FA. Also worth noting is they have 50 mill in cap room the following year(Cutler,Peanut, Jennings and Wooton are key FAs) so there could be a lot of back loading/restructuring going on.
-
Hester making more than Matt Forte is hilarious. It's too bad the cap wasn't a simple as cutting Hester, Davis, and Spaeth would open up 12 mill in cap, that's a lot of money for a lot of "dead weight".
-
To further elaborate on my posts about LBs and Webb...Anthony Spencer, another LB, got 2 sacks on him bring the total to 6 of the 9 sacks Webb gave up being against LBs where he was getting no help. Trestman and Kromers offensive of dumping it off to the Back will force the LBs to stay at home to see what the RB/FB is doing which will take a lot of pressure of the ends (Webb) in pass protection. I truly believe the new staff will allow us to give Webb and others another year to prove that he will be the long term option at LT.
-
Did ya read my whole post? I did compare the 2 against Clay. I said Webb struggles going 1 on 1 vs. Clay Matthews and then I pointed out that so did Staley going 1 on 1. You can't go 1 on 1 coverage against that guy. Esp. in an offense that rarely has a safety valve underneath.
-
Once I again, I'm basing the statement of Webb being our best lineman off the ratings that our GM uses to get an unbiased opinion on our players. In that I'm doing the same thing he's doing, putting an unbiased statement out there that Webb was our best OLman. It's easy to look at the games against GB and say he's god awful because yes, Clay Matthews makes him look god awful 1 on 1. Clay Matthews makes a lot of good LTs look pretty bad 1 on 1. You can't leave him out there on an island against a guy as explosive as Clay or Aldon Smith, it's as simple as that.
-
So we're replacing the whole line then? Why dump the strongest link, despite how weak he may or may no have been, and keep weaker links esp when said strongest link makes such little money? That sounds pretty dumb. If they wanna move him to RT fine but unless you're revamping the whole damn line then Webb stays. If he had some help against guys like Matthews and Smith he would be much higher rated. I saw every play of Matthews vs. Webb and he 90% of the time he got no help which is stupid. I saw a good LT, Joe Staley, get burned twice against Matthews. Furthermore... Jarred Allen got blanked in 2 games against Webb. Cliff Avril who someone on here wanted got 1 sack in 2 games. I Know you said sacks don't matter but you'd think 2 of the top 20 sack artists in the NFL would have a field day on Webb with how "awful" he is.
-
if you're not including Webb than you're replacing the whole line. He was the best we had last year so if you think we need to replace him then you should think we have to replace them all. It's as simple as that to me. If you wanna move him to RT fine but you can't put him on the bench IMO/
-
Which is why I'm now against signing him.

I've also read on a Saints message board that he's not that great, it's the Brees effect. Much like how the Broncos line went from 30th to 6th without really upgrading the line because of Manning. The West Coast Offense will make the whole line look much better, no matter who's on it. Through week 15 Brees was pressured 117 times, and sacked 13% of the time...Cutty was pressured 113 times and sacked 24% of the time. The difference I believe is in the Saints dumping it of to a RB which they did 200+ times while the Bears only dumped it off 83 times. I believe next year we'll see that number a lot closer to the 200 number than the 83 which will alleviate a ton of the hits Jay takes and will make the line look better than they are. Brees also had .07 seconds less than Cutler had to throw.
