  1. Minter MIGHT make it to us in the 2nd but you can't really bank on it. Nicco Johnson is the only other guy that is projected to go in the 2nd and he was a rotational player at Bama only playing in obvious running situations. If they stick with the same type of system a MLB that's not good against the pass wouldn't work. Not a lot of impact LBs this year which is why a lot of people are suggesting getting one in the 1st. If they don't get one in the first they may as well trade down in the 2nd but then all youre really getting is a prospect at that point. A lot of guys getting the "Will look perfect in a 3-4" label....

    3-4s are sexy

I thoroughly agree. If they ever make the change now is the time. To add to the 5 points more in the 2nd half argument I'll throw out some more splits. 1st Half/2nd Half Sacks 25/16 Passes defended 51/39 INTs 17/7 TDs 7/1 FFs 16/10 Sure seems like it's breaking.
  3. If McCoy turns out to be a good return man I'll be ok with that pick. The Frey pick right now was a bad pick, but it's only been 1 year so who knows how he turns out.
  4. Ya, I listened to Alex Brown on some show after the Pro Bowl and he talked about the Saints line being filed with 4th and 5th round draft picks. He didn't mention anything about dumping it off to the RB/FB but I think think that's a huge part of it. 200+ times they targeted the backs, if you show the D you're content with dumping it off if when there is pressure then the D is going to have to lay off the gas pedal a bit.
  5. As a one year review, I'll agree, maybe a notch below. A new coaching system could fix that grade rather quickly. SMC- I hope he shuts me up next year but I think if he stays at DE he'll be a bust and put a damper on the whole draft. Jeffery- I fully expect him to be a legit #2 Hardin- Incomplete. Wright and Conte played well last year so chances are he'll continue to be incomplete even if healthy. He's got good speed and size so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he wins the job over one of the 2 above or CB...Grooming him as an LB could be interesting if he puts on 20 or so pounds. Rodriquez- Loved what I saw from him when he was on the field but for whatever reason(Lovie and Tice incompetence) he wasn't out there near enough. With Trestman I think he gets utilized as an H-back and excels. Frey-Incomplete McCoy-Incomplete. Could be utilized as a solid returner which would make this a solid pick
  6. Wow, Saints RBs and FBs were targeted 215 times. With Trestmans history of utilizing the RB I think this could be another reason why Kromar was brought in. I think this also helps take some pressure off the QB and could be why the Saints line was so successful. Forte should have a huge year, and I think Rodriguez utilized as an H-Back could get a lot of looks.

Another note on Bushrod...According to STATS LLC he only gave up 4.5 sacks last year and had just one holding penalty. He must not be great in run blocking to have such a low rate on PFF. I'd rather have the pass blocking anyway.

    Jake Long

Even if money didn't matter he's still 4 of spots down from the top of my list....If they failed to get guys like Bushrod, Albert, and Beatty I'd think about it if they can still resign Melton and Roach. He's still young and suspect they'd do their homework on his physical situation but there's no way I sign him if it means Meltons gone.

    3-4s are sexy

And it probably wont happen again, defensive touchdowns isn't the only thing that makes a team dynamic. Like I said, I'm ok with keeping things the same, and won't make a peep when they decide to stick with it....It's just fun to speculate lol

    3-4s are sexy

Yes more dynamic than 9 defensive TDs. I believe the secondary can stay the same or be even better in a 3-4 scheme because there would be even more pressure on the QB. How long does that dynamic last with the older guys? But let me throw it out there that I'm fine with staying same.

    3-4s are sexy

Kwame Geathers would be the starting NT in the 3-4.....They did but I just like the idea of getting our 1st round pick more time on the field and moving to a 3-4 would do that. SMC is not an every down DE but he could be a dynamite every down OLB in a 3-4. I think the move makes our old defense younger and even more dynamic.

    3-4s are sexy

Maybe the guys on the NFL network, who make a living on football don't know what they're talking about, but in my fantasy mock world the 355 pound Kwame Geathers would be big enough....BTW San Frans backups at NT are all under 305 pounds.

    3-4s are sexy

That high interior defensive lineman we're talking about would look pretty good at DE esp. considering he wasn't great in run defense. In this scenario, aka my mock world, 54 is gone and we drafted Alec Ogletree and moved SMC to a linebacker position so all of a sudden our LB core doesn't look that old.

    3-4s are sexy

They also don't have near the talent we have past Freeney and Mathis. So ya I guess that was a bad example but I'm just saying NFL teams do use existing players to transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4. Paea was said to be a 3-4 nose tackle and SMC is said to be a 3-4 OLB coming out of the draft...so in a way it's like we're already building towards one (thought I know Paea was a JA pick).

    3-4s are sexy

As far as the bolded goes, every team that makes the switch does just that. You don't bring in a whole new team or anything. Lets use the latest example. Indy switched over last year and used a grand total of 2 picks on defense last year... in the 5th and 7th round. Griz was talking about our corners in a cover 2 so I talked specifically on them. He said 3-4s use man to man so it wouldnt work with our corners, and I said you can still use cover 2...perhaps what I should have said is you can still use zone coverage.

I have a feeling with him bringing in Kromar his scheme probably won't be that different from what the Saints did.

    3-4s are sexy

Well at least you know you're out there working to support them. But lets get back to football because I can literally go on and on about talking about life haha.... What more do we need to make the change to a 3-4 besides a NT, another LB, and maybe another fast CB? Might not be able to get all that this year but if it's something Emery and Tucker wanna do I don't see why it can't be done as early next year (2014).

    3-4s are sexy

Trust me no don't, I've been outta work for 6 months and I'm about to go insane! All I have keeping me sane is talkbears and soxtalk.

    Take your pick

Bushrod had a bad start to the year because of injury, which is why his ranking was so low. He finished strong enough to replace Staley in the Pro Bowl. Gotta take that into account. My pick is J'Marcus Webb lol naw I kid, I kid....I like the Bushrod idea just because he's already had success in the scheme and he should be the cheapest of the good options.

    3-4s are sexy

Fun fact...Bears are the only team to never use the 3-4 as their base defense. Another fun fact...I have no life and am on here 24-7 =p
  21. The thought of moving Tillman to safety is an intriguing one....a 3-4 SS?? lol I couldn't resist.
  22. True, spending a lot of money on a TE just wouldn't be high on my list. If they have the money to grab a LT, and can resign at the very least Melton and Roach (I'd like Izzy, Moore, and Collins back too)...If they can do that and still afford one of the top TEs then go for it. I wanna see Rodriguez get involved more so thats why I really don't wanna spend too much on one.
  23. If Oakland has any kind of money they should resign him. He looks like an actual weapon, something Oakland can't seem to get their hands on. If he does hit the market I'm not so sure he'll be cheap though, he had the 6th most yards by a TE and the 18th most receptions in the whole NFL. Fasano is the guy I'd want. They don't need a high profile TE IMO, they won 10 games without one, they just need a reliable target to work the middle and Fasano is just that. 41 catch-able balls throw his way, he caught all 41.
  24. Ya I can't imagine Pitta becoming available. Depending on how much money they have to spend I wouldn't mind just picking up Fasano. He's not a flashy player and but he catches everything thrown his way and he'll come rather "cheap".
