You don't think he was given a shot at LT in training camp and the Bears just did exactly what the Mayock quote I posted said?
-
That's a pretty sketchy move in my opinion but it could work. Problem is if it fails then we're stuck with another garbage line for a year and could end up in the same situation we are this year, next year (Needing that franchise LT while, speculating where Carimi plays). From Mike Mayok So it's not outlandish to move him from LT to RT...Though I can agree he's never been given a shot at LT. Oh I don't think you'll find a person outside of Mike Tice who wants to see the 4th year of the Webb experiment...We all want a proven guy their, and this is the year to get one.
-
Funny you should say that as the site I was looking at PFF, which is the site Emery uses, has Bushrod as the 8th worst in pass block efficiency whereas Beatty ranked 11th best.....I don't pay for PFF so the stats I'm looking at are only through the first half of the season but it's hard to believe the flip flopped that much. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/...ensive-tackles/ I just figured Scott would be back after reading a previous poster say Scott will be the starting RT.
-
Pretty sure he looked A LOT better at RG over RT though so whether he played there before is not an issue. Here are the options for Gabe as I see them. (I'll just use Beatty because he's who I want) Option 1- Play Gabe at RT where he sucked and hope he was indeed playing hurt. - Carimi/Louis/Garza/?/Beatty Option 2- Play Gabe at RG and not resign Louis who has been the best OLman the Bears have had. -Scott/Carimi/Garza/?/Beatty Option 3- Move Lance Louis to LG or RT while playing Gabe at RG. -Louis/Carimi/Garza/?/Beatty or ?/Carimi/Garza/Louis/Beatty Option 4- Move Gabe Carimi to LG -?/Louis/Garza/Carimi/Beatty Which would you all like to see? I'd personally like to have the option of 1 or 4. Meaning a training camp battle like I've been calling for.
-
The problem with continuity from this year to next is this years line obviously sucked. IMO the only guys who should be given their old spots back are Garza and Louis, and Louis played where Carimi ended up at. A top tier LT needs to brought in and the other 2 spots are to be earned. If Carimi really was hurt he should have no problem capturing his RT spot back, if someone else earns it over him and they wanna try Gabe at LG and he excels then thats fantastic and I don't see the problem.
-
When we drafted him weren't we all wanting him to be moved to LT? (If of course he lived up to his 1st round potential.) If they bring back Louis he deserves a spot, and that should be where he's been, RG. Scott was supposedly solid at RT, but his ratings show otherwise, so I dont know what to think about him and would be open to Carimi there....If Scott was good there and you don't wanna move anyone around then you say good bye to Louis. It's too early to outright bench Gabe and he's being moved around because he hasnt found a home yet. If I were the coach I'd let Gabe, Webb, Brown, Scott and the draft pick battle it out for RT and LG...Disregard prior positions, may the best men win
-
Honestly the addition of Beatty or any top tier LT and the return of Louis sets the line up pretty good. I can't find individual OL stats but someone here said Scott looked good at RT....So then you have Carimi, Brown, Webb, and the 2nd round rookie battling over the LG spot. I personally wanna give Carimi one more shot to see if he can hang at guard. Lining him up next to a proven top tier LT could be a good thing for him. As far as the 3-4 goes, if you're like me and think Paea can play NT (Ridiculous strong, can gain weight) and Melton can play DE (Has a knack, speed, and power for getting to the QB) I don't see that big of a personnel change needed. Plus I believe it optimizes the value of SMC who moves to the OLB spot.
-
Because he's a 1st round talent and past the 3 I mentioned it's slim pick'ns. Draft experts don't seem to mind either. If they think they can get Minter in the 2nd and grab an OL in the first I'd be all for that, there are some drafts where I see Minter going in the first tho and with how deep the draft is on OLmen I'd prefer a ILB in the first.
-
Sign Sullivan, Trestman, or Arian as the HC Bring in a DC who runs a 3-4 Re-sign- Melton, Louis, and Roach. Sign- Will Beatty....If you have restructure some contracts, go for it. Draft... Ogletree, Minter, or if for whatever reason he falls Te'o in the first..I see Minter going in in the 1st in a couple mocks Best available OL in the 2nd, supposedly this is a deep draft for OL..It's not for ILB, Then the biggest and baddest DT in the 4th...I still think Paea can play NT but a backup will be needed Then grab a Speed WR, a big TE, and a CB in the 5th 6th and 7th. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The OL battles it out for RT, and LG with Louis, Garza, and Beatty being sure things at RG/C/LT. That leaves Scott, Rookie, Brown, Webb, and Carimi for those last 2 spots. 2 of them are bound to catch on. The LB core in this 3-4 would be Briggs-Minter-Roach-SMC...I think thats pretty sexy. The DL would be Pep-Paea-Melton. I know it's up for debate whether Paea can be a NT and if Melton can play DE but in my mind there's no question. Utilize Rodriguez more as a hybrid TE. Win a title.

Ya that was me...The more i read about him, the more i like him, if you read the latest article I posted on him he learned to coach from Papa Shanny, Holmgren, and Bill Walsh...What a group to learn from right?
-
From what I've read it doesn't sound like he'll take just an OC job...2006 Sean Payton wanted to bring him in as his OC and he passed to take a HC job at NC State...then he went to Canada. His mind could have changed but it seems like its HC or bust for him.
-
Ya just one look at his wiki page leads me to believe he could be a good hire. As Brian said he worked with Cutler before the draft (Along with other top QB prospects, he's well respected in this regard) He's got a book out called "PERSEVERANCE: Life Lessons on Leadership and Teamwork" He hes good success as an NFL OC....People wanna throw out the "Chucky made Rich Gannon an MVP" well Trestman was his OC.
-
I got my money on Sullivan. Not that I think wonders need to be worked on Cutler but he turned Eli into a superstar and turned Tampa's 21st ranked O into a top 10 O. Oh and you want a strong presence? How about a former Army Ranger and a blue belt in BJJ.
-
That all sounds gravy to me. An all pro TE isn't needed, I'll take a 4th round TE and Evan Rodriguez. If they add Long and draft an O-lineman in the first or 2nd they won't really need that much more depth beyond just that.
-
How are we viewing James Brown on this board now. I remember being on here last off season and there was a lot of talk on him. I didn't even notice he started 3 games this year, which i guess is a good thing. I've read some reports that he's looked alright but would be better suited on the outside or inside a zone blocking scheme. Could he get a spot somewhere on the line? Anywhere but LT, I want a proven guy there.
-
After hearing his presser Chip Kelly sounds like he'll be an NFL coach next year...Interested?
-
I wouldn't call it a rebuilding at all. What I can see is the polar shift all the scientists we're predicting for 2013. And by that I mean the Bears turn into a more offensive orientated team. The defense will still be there but I see more emphasis on the offensive side of the ball....And really all that means is a few new OL, a TE and maybe a speed receiver who can actually catch the ball. That might all spell the end of Urlacher and possibly Peppers but with the potential on offense I'm ok with that. No way they go into a total rebuild when they're so damn close to being title contenders.
-
per rotoworld... but then per Dan Pompei via rotoworld... That certainly conflicts with the subtitle of the thread.
-
What makes you think that? I know it's not ridiculous to think that nor do I think it's ridiculous to think he can be a fit there. I'm actually kinda surprised he's not already used there occasionally. The guys a former RB at Texas so he's got some wheels on him. In a 3-4 you want a big DE and I think Melton could be just that Edit- I guess the answer to my question would probably be his height right?
-
I think a Peppers-Paea-Melton line could work in s 3-4. Paea is not THAT big but he's got incredible strength and can pack on some more pounds. I'm not advocating it but I think it'd work.
-
Furthermore, if you don't check that list I linked up. 5 of the 6 guys you mentioned are in the top 15 of the most efficient pass blockers in the NFL. Clady #2 Albert and Long tied @ #5 Beatty #11 Vollmer #12 Getting any of those guys will make me a happy panda, and this team so much better.
-
i could be wrong about the PFF mention, I haven't seen or heard the conference but I could have sworn someone mentioned him "giving a shout out to pff" But ya, I agree no chance Clady leaves, Long has got to be #1 on the Bears list. If they really have the money to "do whatever they want" he's the guy I want. EDIT- Ya Bowling mentioned his "shout out" to PFF.
-
It's funny that Emery brought up Pff in his press conference and in looking for the top OTs in the game I found this from pff https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/...ensive-tackles/ Which has Jermon Bushrod as having the 8th worst pass block efficiency. So he doesn't sound like a guy Emery would target. Ryan Clady ranked 2nd and Jake Long ranked 7th , in what was considered a down year for him, if one of those guys are available, they gotta be the #1 target.
-
If they have the cap room for Long and one of those guys that would certainly be ideal.

Balta I know youre over on the soxtalk board but I'll post this over here for those that aren't There's a well respected trainer or doctor or something along those lines that posts over on soxtalk, I asked him about the Knox injury and this was his response. So losing a step or 2 shouldn't be an issue.
