  1. I read that he would test free agency and could come back "at the right price" which hopefully means the price of a backup and he does just that, backup.
  2. This......He's not going anywhere.

    Malik Jackson

He was the 3rd ranked 3-4 DE last year, but yeah, that kinda money, and with this draft class I would pass.
  4. I suppose RGIII is a fair example. I still think he goes somewhere and proves to be an NFL QB again.
  5. I just don't see why the past should have anything to do with the future. This is a guy who experts are saying is a top 3 talent when healthy. I still like Jack better, but Smith is now #2 on my list. I've sold myself.
  6. Rose is made of glass. I want examples of football players. Only player i can kind of think of is Thomas Davis, but that's kind of an example going both ways. He tore his ACL once, then did it again the next 2 years but he's still a monster after 3 surgeries. It's kind of an example going the other way because he missed a lot of time when they happened.
  7. Seems highly unlikely that Smith drops to the 2nd. I've read multiple articles that say he doesn't make it past #18. He's expected to be off of crutches sometime this week which is way ahead of schedule. Modern medicine and treatments just kick ass.
  8. I would love some recent examples. Not trying to be an ass, just really curious.
  9. These days I think there are more players returning to previous level vs players not returning to their former selves.
  10. If the medical exams look good, I wouldn't nessesarily say that's true. All the reports I've seen are encouraging.
  11. Apparently McPhee and Jenkins were high school teammates, and McPhee is recruiting Jenkins to come play for the Bears. Jenkins is kind of a polarizing player. There are times where he is REALLY good and times where he gets beat pretty bad. I have a lot of faith in Ed Donatell and his ability to coach up corners, I think if he came here we would see more of the really good player and less of the bad plays. Porter is kind of polarizing as well. He looked pretty good for the most part last season, but his injury history does kind of scare me. Jenks(as the guys on a Rams board I visited calls him) is younger and doesn't have the injury history. I would really welcome this move if it were to happen.
  12. I would prefer Damon Harrison, but Ian Williams looks like he could be a poor mans Harrison which isn't a bad thing. I have zero problem with Goldman playing outside. He played some there in college and spent some time there last year as well. I love the idea of getting big up front and dominating against the run while having fast athletic ILBs being them running around freely and playing the pass.
  13. If they don't resign Porter, or sign another CB than Hargreaves is the obvious pick. I know some say he isn't a 3-4 DL, but I would also consider Sheldon Rankins. He is clearly comfortable playing the position as that is where he played his whole college career. I love how he uses his hands. Jarran Reed would be another guy to consider. I really think Darron Lee should be in the conversation, and after he blows up the combine, I think he will.

    Free Agency Plan

I'm not a fan of guys who look like strictly downhill LBs. I think the NFL is going away from those types as it becomes more and more of a passing league.
  15. That and Smith isn't making it to the 2nd. Sheldon Day is the same size as Sheldon Rankins who you(Jason) said can't play in a 3-4 so there's also that.

    Free Agency Plan

The thing is, last year they had 32 million dollars in cap space. Right now they 59m with the potential for more. If they plan on spending that on a bunch of lesser dudes aand only sign one "High priced" guy, I would go with Trev. Draft has more depth at DL vs ILB.

    Free Agency Plan

A lot of intriguing names out there. Gonna be a fun off-season. Would LOVE to see a double up in free agency and early in the draft at both ILB and DL. Malik Jackson or Jaye Howard are probably the more likely ones as far as DL goes. Trevathon is a must to me. If they can double that up with say Myles Jack and Adolphus Washington I would be one happy panda. A front 7 with Jackson-Goldman-Washington and McPhee-Jack-Trevathon-Houston should be incredible. What they do at corner will be fairly interesting. Porter was pretty good last year but he's "old" and injury prone. I think they keep him around, but if they don't CB becomes a pressing need.

    Fanspeak draft

Probably zero chance of Smith dropping tithe 2nd, and I certainly hope they signed a good 5T in this scenario where you're waiting till the 6th to get one. Not a big fan.
  19. Sure would be nice to see the wildcard Cornelius Washington take that step up from freak athlete to productive NFL player. Physically he's got all you want. 6'4" beefed up to 285, long arms, strong like bull, explosive. I remember hearing "fluff" last year in training camp that Washington looked real good. Hopefully that was more than just fluff.
  20. Long might not be a fit, but Laurinaittis intrigues me. I would prefer Trevathon but James is another guy who's solid in coverage and would be a welcome 2nd option.
  21. I would love to see these reports. Edit....already seeing some, but I totally disagree. He's been one of the most productive Dlinemen in college all while playing in a 3-4.
  22. ....Rankins played in a 3-4. Long term I don't see anything wrong with taking Smith.
  23. What big board did you use? There's a better chance Rankins is drafted in the too 15 vs the 3rd round.
  24. Figured I shouldn't even bring up pff since it's witch craft around these parts.
