We always hear people talk about the list of excuses....please, objectively explain why they are just excuses and not reasons the team has failed.
-
You don't know that because we've never seen the complete team you talked about in the other thread. Jay was 31 games above .500 when we had a good defense. But at the same time he had an awful OL and a WR corp that had Devin Heater as your #1. Think about if we had the offensive weapons and OL (which still isn't great, but better) we have now to go with some of the defenses they had under Lovie Smith. Again Jay managed to go 31 games over then, we don't know where they might be now with a complete team. They were a touchdown away from going to the Super Bowl with an OL that featured a rookie J'Marcus Webb and Frank Omiyale as the tackles and a WR corp that had Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, and Earl Bennett. That's 2 guys talkbears absolutely hate at tackle, a #2 WR at best in Knox, a kick returner who should probably be a #4 or 5 WR, and Earl Bennett who is a serviceable #3. By rankings, we didn't even have the better defense in that game against GB in the NFC championship game, they ranked 2nd and we ranked 4th. And yet through all that we were 1 touchdown away from beating them.

Fair enough, but the only time Rodgers won a super bowl was when his defense was 2nd in the league. Houston had been one of the better teams in the league wit Matt fn Shaub as their QB. Went to back to back NFC Championship games and only lost to the eventual SB champs. Defense wins championships boys. You can get Goff but it went be until you start getting talent on defense that we go anywhere.
-
People tend to forget, when Jay actually had a defense worth a damn, his record is 51-20. That is with sub par WRs and terrible OLs. Now that the D is historically bad he pretty much has to play perfect football to win a game. You can win with Jay and a good D.
-
Meh, it's a risk worth taking IMO. I highly doubt that if he moves to LT and fails that you couldn't just move him back to RT/RG and he still dominates. LT is obviously the most important position on the field and if Long can play there I think you do it. Finding a RT/RG is a whole lot easier than a LT. I'm down with trading down a few spots but not too far. I would still prefer that we stay in the top 5 so we have a shot at Bosa/Nkemdiche/Ramsey/Hergreaves. Really need some help at corner and pass rush.
-
If the Def still sucks a QB won't get us very far. They came close to beating GB and were in the game with Jay out there but IMO both losses hang on the D. I think you can win with Jay if the D isn't laughably bad. Goff makes things hard as I absolutely love the kid, but I think Jay + Bosa/Nkemdiche > Goff + A lesser pass rush.

No to the 2nd one. Hogan was god awful vs my Wildcats. Yes Northwestern has a great secondary but that is what he will face in the NFL. Jack and Scoobey are probably first rounders and right now I'm hoping Kyle Long is the LT long term. 1st one looks solid but if the Bears continue to struggle getting to the QB they need to add a guy who can get in the backfield. Whether that be a a guy on the line like Bosa/Nkemdiche or a speed rusher opposite McPhee.
-
I was just responding to his statement about Sundays game. Yes, that goal line stand against Green bay was ridiculous. Hard to know who's calling plays though, I pin it on whoever that is.
-
Uhhhh, why? Because he hit on Long? I mean I'm not apposed to the idea or anything but the statement just sounds like your trying to put down Pace in a way.
-
To me it looks like he's lined up past 5 yards from the line of scrimmage thus jamming the TE would be illegal contact. McPhee probably should have gave him a shove on that play.
-
And who was the QB in those redzone situations? Jimmy Clausen, the backup.
-
For whatever reason, I'm using this as a game thread of sorts for Sundays game......Fox claiming Jay isn't ruled out for the game just yet. I'I'm assuming its BS but who knows.
-
With a cast on his hand no less. Very encouraging. Here's to hoping he continues to improve and can shift over to LT next year. Move Bushrod to the right side next year and eliminate any thoughts of going OT in the first.
-
Kam Chancellor is ending his hold out. Things just got even worse for the Bears chances this week. I don't expect much, but I just wanna see progress as the year goes on.
-
On your last paragraph. I really think it might be time for a positive Shea McClellin thread. I thought he's looked pretty damn good. There's probably such a negative vibe around him from the past that people aren't willining to give him any credit. Also concerning that Fitz touchdown. Fitzgerald actually said SMC did an impressive job scrambling back to make it a play (though he does say he thought it was pass interference) Here's a pretty cool article where Fitz, Chris Johnson, and David Fells breakdown that play. www.azcardinals.com/news-and-events/article-2/Film-Room-Larry-Fitzgeralds-Flea-Flicker-TD/056ef857-9364-4108-90df-d2a297e786b8 If he continues playing well I wouldn't be surprised if he's resigned.....though I hear the staff loves Timu.

Hurst is back and on the PS. Bears added Deonte Thompson who looks somewhat intriguing for those who aren't fans of Mariani. 4.31 speed, filled in as kick returnee for Jacoby Jones in Baltimore. Bruce Callahan and Ify Somethingorother are gone.

Not that I care, but just to level the playing field here on the whole weed thing.... Stumbled upon this when looking more into Nkemdiche... www.foxsports.com/college-football/outkick-the-coverage/tennessee-fan-releases-picture-of-robert-nkemdiche-hitting-bong-on-game-week-101314 Ugh, I have no clue why my links aren't clickable today. If you're too lazy to copy and paste, its a picture of Nkemdiche smoking pot. Again, most remember from a a few years back, I could care less about pot. I just wanted to point this out to those who would pass on Bosa because he smoked/smokes.

You're crazy if you think Bosa can't play on the line in a 3-4. In fact he already plays some 3-4 at OSU.... www.landgrantholyland.com/2014/10/15/6974699/ohio-state-football-taking-a-closer-look-at-joey-bosa (Not sure why the link isn't clickable) I watch plenty of football, typically B1G because I'm a Northwestern fan and I follow the conference. I'm certainly not saying Nkemdiche is garbage by any means, I'm just saying Joey Bosa is an animal.
-
Yeah, Bosa is the type of freak who could play anywhere. He could probably play OLB too if he wanted to.
-
Gotcha, yeah, that I absolutely agree about.
-
Eh, some yes, only speculation out there as to what caused him to get a 1 game suspension. Talk is either weed or missing class. I certainly don't wanna get into another marijuana debate though. I just coukdnt pass on a guy who gets compared to JJ Watt.
-
You and I know both know I'm a Cutler fan, but if the right one comes along you can't look at past failures for future decisions. I think Goff could be that guy.
-
He's really good. Good size at 6'4", sound mechanics, accurate, big arm, scans the field, Does come from a spread offense, (Ironically called Bear-raid) but I don't really see the issue there. Saw him in his first game as a true freshman and just knew he had "it". He's been on my radar ever since. We all know I'm a Cutler fan, but even I would have a hard time passing on Goff. Maybe for Bosa, another guy who I think has "It", but man that would be tough. Hopefully Ego and Sutton step up and make that decision a little easier.......Then again I also think Jay is gonna step up and make things harder.
-
Here's my response to that... Again, I admit I havent seen Nkemdiche but based on those numbers it's hard to say he's heads and shoulders above Bosa. I have seen A TON of Bosa. Dude is incredible.

Whoops, wrong thread.
