I'm coming around to the idea. I think a trade down makes the most sense at this point though. -
Love reading these quotes on rotoworld..... "He has the upside to be a difference-maker in the run game" "Montgomery has started the last 48 games for the Redskins and is a well above-average run blocker" He sounds like he could be a good starter for a year or 2.

I get what you're saying, but I just don't think Young and Allen could be those types of players. You're looking for players like Justin Smith and JJ Watt. Big STRONG guys who just reck shit. If you're looking for 4-3 DEs that can make the transition, you're gonna be looking for DEs who win with power.
-
He's also one of the better pass blockers in the league which is very solid trait to have. Maybe in the later rounds.
-
Ball got 3M. Interesting, that's starter money. The must really like him. Like I said he was pretty good in 2013. With that in mind, I'd be somewhat OK waiting a bit on a CB. Fox and Donatel know the secondary better than most so I'll trust them on this.
-
Bears signed him....Between him, Forte, and Carey, there's no need in the draft.
-
If I had to pick I'd rank em... 1. FSU 2. UW 3. LSU 4. Oregon 5. Bama 6. Auburn
-
Absolutely what I'm saying, and I don't see it as nonsensical in the least bit. Again, Young and Allen win in space, there's no space when you're moved inside the tackle.
-
And I just don't agree either. I believe there's a reason why Fox has called Allen an OLB. Allen would be awful as a 3-4 DE. He hasn't been particularly good as a 4-3 DE the past year or 2, and moving him inside the tackle is gonna make him even worse. When he has won in the past it's because he utilized his length out in space, he won't be playing in any space at 3-4 DE. Same goes for Young, he wins with his speed out in space. They aren't gonna be able to utilize what has made them NFL players moving inside the tackle. Both players lack the strength needed to play inside.

Awful as a runner, but would be a solid 3rd down back as far as pass blocking and catching the ball outta the backfield goes. Probably gets a vet min contract.

MadLith has SF Washington #5, Giants #9, Chiefs #18, Bengals #21, Cards #24, Ravens #26, and Broncos #28 are left.

Ill pick up Oakland since my first pick isnt till #11. Suppose I could take Houston as well since i had them last year....5 is my limit though

I expect to see the 2-4-5 a lot more often depending on what offenses are throwing at them. At least with the 9ers, that was Fangios nickel formation. As for the Bears having a ton of DEs, they either have a ton of DEs or a ton of OLBs. I tend to think they have a ton of OLBs. If you throw most of those guys Jason listed out there at 3-4 DE 40% of the time, you're gonna get beat 40% of the time. Lined up inside the tackle those guys won't do much of anything. Jenkins is a wild card i guess you can say. He really hasn't done much of anything from what I've read. He very well could be a starter, and who knows, he could improve, but I'm just not so sure you wanna say we've addressed the position with his acquisition. I have no clue what to think of Houston, yes, he may be close to 3 bills, but I believe I read where he played closer to 285. That's still pretty big, but like I went through before, going back to Fangios days in Baltimore, he's utilzed a lot of bigger, slower OLBs and made it work. Houston ran the 40 quicker than guys like Suggs, Kruger, and a few others that I don't feel like looking up again. It really wouldn't surprise me one bit if Houston does indeed play OLB, and they go with the 2 aggressive OLBs in Houston and McPhee vs going more speed oriented.

It's not necessarily giving up on him, but 4 WR sets are rarely run in the NFL, and I think the best way for Wilson to grow would be on the field getting actual in game reps. Wilson has shown flashes in preseason, and he had a pretty good game vs GB last year. It's not necessarily a bad problem to have if he puts it together even after drafting a WR, but the 1R pick could be used elsewhere. Bears right now have Jeffery, Bennett, Forte, Royal, and my sleeper to break out, Zach Miller, to throw the ball to...Adding a potential pro bowler to that group is certainly tantalizing but IMO not a true must for a team that is supposed to run the ball more.

To be honest, all the one year contracts kinda tell me they're moreso in a "See what you got mode" vs win now mode. It's not so much rebuilding really, but most of the move are just moves that COULD work out well if all goes right. If they don't then there's no risk involved. They def aren't in tank mode that's for sure.

Good call on Conley, I'm reading his route running leaves a lot to be desired, but that's something that could certainly be improved. I for one haven't given up on Wilson, and think he could still be a pretty good WR, so I'd prefer a mid round guy like him who just comes in and competes with Wilson vs a 1st round guy who comes in and automatically wipes out Wilsons chance to grow. Though I wouldn't absolutely bash Cooper/White in the 1st.

I'm certainly not set on that pick, but I think under Fox and Donatel he has the chance to be special. I debated Shelton, Andrus Peat, and Devonte Parker here as well. With the depth through the 2R at the CB position I'd pass on Waynes. We all know I love Shelton, and would probably still draft him, but after the signing of McDonald I'm kinda backing off just a bit. McDonald was a guy who stayed on the field for most of the snaps, so I now think between Ego and Ratliff I think one of those guys get the nod in the sub packages. I absolutely wouldn't rule Shelton out though. Peat I'm iffy on because I read he's struggled a bit vs the pass rush. All guys are gonna have flaws off course, much like Collins. Parker, while yes he's the #3 WR on most big boards still has a chance to be something special. Trading down to 12 there's not gonna be a lock "All pro" type player there.
-
I kinda like the idea of having big, physical, violent guys coming off the edge. I think it's easier to neutralize speed than it is violent guys like McPhee/Houston.
-
The names aren't bad, the lack of an OT and a safety is what irks me. IF they do a running back by commitee, you don't do it with 2 featured backs, it's a waste.

Using those picks, and going off of WFs mock, I'd probably go with... 1R- Landon Collins S- That's right, Shelton's still on the board and I'm passing. I don't really like Collins at 7, but in a trade down scenario even just 5 spots, I'd take him. I read up more on Collins, as I completely shat on him after his Bowl game, and I'm thinking this could be a good pick here. Working with Fox and Donatel should help him out wrinkle out some of his lapses in coverage. 2R- Kevin Johnson CB- I think Ball could be a good player, but I'm not counting on him being a starter. Give me Johnson here. 2R- Jake Fisher OT- I really think we HAVE to get an OT in the first few rounds of the draft. Fisher makes a ton of sense here. 3R- Tyler Locket WR- Gase utilized 2 WRs under 6 foot last year so size isn't a must here. Lockett becomes a potential Pro Bowl return man and another serious deep threat. 4R- Henry Anderson DE- I think he'll need to put on some weight and get stronger, but if he can do that we could be talking about our 5T of the future. 4R- Mitch Morse OC- Here's a name ya don't here much. He's a guy like Cameron Irving who could play anywhere on the line, after Irving and Grasu I like Morse more than guys like Dismukes and Galik. 5R- Xavier Williams NT- Was a man among boys at Northern Iowa. He won't dominate the NFL like he did the Missouri Valley, but he still looks like he could be a good NT. 5R- Brandon Bridge QB- There's your QB prospect to groom. 6R- Best RB available 6R- Best ILB available
-
10 picks and not one of them is an OT or a safety??? A rb in the 2R?? Ya, no thanks on all that. The only dream about that draft is getting all those picks sure would be nifty.

Since everyone just loves PFF, I'll throw out there that he ranked in the top 19 among corners in 2013. 2014 wasn't that good but between Fox and Donatel the Bears have 2 of the best guys when it comes to the secondary, so him getting back to that top 20 status I don't think is much of a stretch. That said I'm not sure you can trust him getting back to that level, so I'd still shoot for a CB in the 2-4 round.

Just give the man some actual protection, and roll him out from time to time and he'll be fine. Jay just simply isn't that good under pressure, and he's almost constantly been under pressure in his time here. We haven't got the Jay we traded for because the Jay we traded for had a good line in front of him and his coach knew how to keep the pressure off of him.
