Yup, exactly what I thought when I saw the tweet. Fox didnt have an OLB coach last year in a 4-3.

With new coaching staff in Place, Briggs wants back

Ya, at this point I think inside a 3-4 would be his best bet at still playing at a highish level. At the right price I'd welcome him back. -
For those wanting to draft a safety..how about Rahim Moore
scs787 replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
I wanna see them try and make a play for McCourty, but if he gets too expensive/gets resigned then ya, Moore makes a ton of sense. I said in another post that I'd like to see them fix the secondary in FA leaving them to focus on getting some bodies for the front 7 in the draft. I like the idea of Moore, Gholson, and Culliver/Cox as all guys who are familiar with the staff. -

Kicked inside he could be solid a solid fit. But ya it all comes down to if he's dedicated. I'd give him an incentave heavy deal. -
Ya MartyB is awesome.Have you seen his captain crunch video? Pure gold.

Something I think that is worth mentioning is I've read that it was Marcus Golden that got the double teams for that Mizzu team. You would think that if defenses thought Ray was better than Golden then Ray would be the one getting double teamed. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but that might tell me that Ray might be a little overrated and Golden who might be available in the 2R could be a little underrated. Note the word might in that last sentence. Its just something to think about.

I'm kinda there with you but man Shelton is so tantalizing to me. I see a lot of defensive talent in this draft so I'm kinda torn on Shelton vs trade down.

3-4 fronts are typically lead by guys who are DTs. Using the4-3 verbiage we're used to you wanna throw your 3 techniques outside and your beefy NT inside. Houston gets talked about on the outside because he's got the size of a 3t. I really like the idea of Houston-Shelton-Ego. I agree that Greene is a cut candidate. Also cmon now whose Young? Willie silly.
-
Meh, I think in the right situation he can be above average. His huge flaw is not being able to get off his blocks, that can be cleared up with the right big beefy guys in front of him ala what the Bears did with Washington and Traylor. I do still see a rangy guy who can be real good in coverage. That said after reading more into the 3-4 he might not be a fit due to his size, and said huge flaw so I have actually changed my tune a bit on him for next year. In a strict nickel package he could counted on IMO, or hell maybe even converted back to SS might be real intriguing.

And I still think Bostic is solid, just not a game changer like URL was. Vereen still has potential. There just always seemed to be a disconnect between the LBs and safeties. Getting everyone one on the same page will make everyone look better. Shelton to me is an undeniable talent, just like Donald was, and he might even be better. Other guys talked about as our first round picks have debatable flaws, Shelton, Shelton is just a monster.

Houston should be back for OTAs in my opinion so he should be good to go for the year. Young might be as well but if not we do have a plethora of guys that can fill in in the mean time. SMC, Washington, and Bass could all be solid OLBs to hold down the fort till Willie comes back. In some scouting reports even Christian Jones was being talked about as a rush LB.

This.

Im actually hoping we fix the secondary in FA so they can snag Sheltons other teammate Kikaha in the the 2nd. I'd be 100% OK with Shelton/Peters though if we didn't already address CB in FA. I kind of shared a similar feeling when people brought up Suh, but really, Sutton was drafted late enough that he doesnt need to be locked into a starters spot, and Ratliff only has a year left (if that). Houston-Shelton-Ego with Rat and Sutton as rotational pieces/ depth sounds damn good to me,

I'm really starting to develop an Aaron Donald-esque man crush on Shelton. 98 tackles from a DT is just unheard of. He backed up those stats for me at the senior bowl.
-
I was a big supporter of his last year around draft time. Its hard to say though now. Wasn't as good as I expected. That could be him being a rookie, or because often times he had to come in off the bench for an injured Conte so he wasn't getting starting reps, or he was simply undercoached by a bad coaching staff. There's a lot of guys who fit into that category for me and they're all real hard to judge. I could go either way on guys like Vereen, Mundy, Bostic, Jones, SMC/Washington/Bass, and even Jennings as starters next year or not.
-
I wouldn't HATE Collins as the SS if they pair him with a good coverage FS like McCourty or a Moore in FA. That said I think you can find a SS later on in the draft.
-
Guess I'm a little surprised by everyones response. This is a guy Cutler personally asked for a few years back who has no connection to Fox. I'm sure there will be some out there that will have a fit, surprised none of em are here. I digress, carry on.

If we didn't hire a staff everyone loved people would be up in arms about this move. Similar to people not wanting old man Shanny.

Worked with Jay in the past and Jay publicly campaigned to bring him aboard back in 2012. It would appear that Jay is here at least another year. I'm guessing Fox has sat down with Jay and his name came up. *Sits back and waits for catering to Jay comments*

My percentages were around that as well..Just did it again, had Cullivers 3/20 deal at 10% and it still gave me a 15M cap hit. Weird.
-
Does that 300k under take into account the draft? Overthecap estimates that we'll need about 5.7 mill. Curious what you, and parker can feel free to chime in too, set the gaurenteed money at. Perhaps that would explain why a 3/20 deal gave me a 15mill cap hit while your 3/22 deal gave you a cap hit of 5.8.
-
How on earth did you manage all that and stay under the cap? I know we have a lot of room but that doesnt seem possible to me. I tried doing one but it came out all funky. Signed Chris Culliver to a 3/20 deal and it gave him a 15 mill cap hit.
-
Curious as to where your seeing these reports? I'm on the record saying that I'm OK with Jones/Bostic at ILB but I'm not sure I could pass up Patrick Willis at the right price.
