  1. So I have finally gotten around to a computer to do some "Proper research" vs trying to do it on a tablet, and instead of simply doing a mock draft I'm gonna add in a few FA signings as well. First and foremost give me Devin McCourty. Despite popular belief that Jay's contract is so big it will prohibit them to add to the defense, the Bears will have a pretty good chunk of change to work with. Overall I think the defense does have some talent on it, I just happen to think Tucker is keeping said talent down, so I don't mind spending a big chunk o change on 1 player vs multiple cheaper players. Then give me Brandon Marshall of the Broncos...No I'm not talking about getting in a time machine or anything, I'm talking Brandon Marshall, the linebacker... I wouldn't be shocked if he's brought back (Same with McCourty really), but the Broncos have a ton of big named free agents that are gonna need to be resigned so they might be forced to let go of Marshall....Marshall is fantastic, and might still be a little underrated in the league so he might come somewhat cheap. I've been harping for David Harris the last few weeks, but reading how bad he is in coverage I decided against him (Though he's a monster against the run and I wouldn't hate to add him). Marshall from all I've read, and seen this year is a very well rounded LB who I think would be a solid MLB. Those are the big 2, I won't go into lesser backups. Adding those 2 guys will no doubt fix the problems we have in the middle of the field. We can go the draft route to add those guys but I'd prefer some proven guys out there. Now for my shocker....Trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chiefs for a 2nd and 5R pick. Yes that's right, I'm open to trading BMarsh. I kinda think BMarsh and Alshon are almost redundant in that they're virtually the same player. I wanna see a speed element added to the WR group. For the draft I used http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/mock-draft/2015/ to mock it up... 1R- Andrus Peat OT Stanford- Yup that's right, I went there. I'm "Coddling Jay Cutler" again. I think Jay will be back, and happen to think with the right protection he can be that guy we all want him to be. Bushrod took a step back, and Mills never step forward, an OT is a need IMO. With a MLB and FS taken in FA an OT is something we can now afford to take....Peat is a big ol dude that's uncharacteristically athletic. He might not force Bushrod to RT right away, but make no mistake, this guy is the LT of the future. 2R- Ronald Darby CB FSU- Yes, I see Marcus Peters and Jalen Collins who this draft has ranked ahead of Darby, but in my book, Darby is the better player and fit. Peters and Collins are bigger, but Darby is faster and has similar ball skills. I went with speed over height here basically and I did that because I think Fuller can shut down the Megatrons and Jordy Nelsons of the worlds, I think the Bears need a shifty, fast corner to shut down the Cobbs and Tates of the world. 2R- Anthony Harris SS UVA- Probably the best all around safety in the draft IMO. He's sound in both coverage and run support. Harris coupled with the veteran McCourty should finally sure up the safety group. 3R- Tyler Lockett WR K State- I said I wanted a speed element added, this guy brings it. Fell in love with the kid watching the K-State UCLA bowl game. Not only does he add to the WR position, but he was also the best returner in college as well. Kid could be our Golden Tate. 4R- Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE UCLA- Another kid I was impressed with in the Alamo Bowl. Adds depth to a meh DE position. (yes I had to copy and paste that name) 5R- Sean Mannion QB Oregon State- Lacks mobility but can give you everything else you want in a QB. Again I think Cutler stays at least another year so I wait and take a guy later in the draft. If neither he nor Fales pans out before it's time to say bye to Jay, thats when I go QB in the first. 6R- Josh Shaw CB USC- Can never have enough quality corners. Shaw is currently looked at so low down in the draft because well, he's an idiot off the field. On the field however he would be a steal in the 6th. Can play CB or either safety position 7R- James Castleman DT OK State-Sticking with what they gave us here despite DT not really being a need. I mean after watching what he did in the Cactus Bowl it's hard not to like him... Check this big boy out if you didn't already see the game or all the highlights http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-sat...-072708695.html ..... At the very least maybe this guy can come in and play the role Eben Britton played, while also adding some trickery into it by occasionally throwing or handing him the ball. Bash away on the BMarsh trade and waiting till the 5th for a QB.
  2. Just wanted to point this out. Guess who had the same INT% as Jay Cutler? Phillip Rivers, a guy you have in the mix as a really good qb. Lucks wasn't that much better either.
  3. QB rating has to be an extremely flawed stat....I mean Jay Cutler has the 25th highest all time....There are only 4 hall of fame qbs ahead of him.
  4. It's really hard to grasp what goes into being a good gm candidate. All I know is everywhere you look Ballard is talked about as a hot topic. Had I not seen all that buzz then I too would question the signing. Polian appears to be a pipedream, he told the bills owner that he was staying with ESPN for 2015 and beyond.
  5. When talking about Jay and interceptions I'm reminded of when Hawk Harrelson talks about Bert Blylevin and other pitchers who gave up a ton of home runs. He always said you have to be a a really good pitcher to give up that many home runs in your career, because if you're not a good pitcher and gave up all them home runs you wouldn't be in the league to give those up. Same goes for Brett Favre who twice lead the league in interceptions.
  6. Lame. I think a Rex Ryan signing coupled with the signing of his middle linebacker David Harris would have been a huge coup for this team. Harris would obviously still make a ton of sense though.
  7. People gotta realize that his deal was frontloaded. Next year he will be the 11th highest paid...I know you'll disagree, but I don't think its too crazy to think he can be among the top 11 qbs in the league...esp. if the OL improves and stays healthy which would allow him time to do more than just throw a million swing passes.
  8. Another big reason I want Rex is because I think David Harris, who is a tackling machine and has been with Rex his whole time, would come with in free agency. That would be huge in helping Rex transition here in Chicago.
  9. Ya, I really think he makes the most sense for this team. His downfall was really that of Lovie smiths in that he never had a good enough offense to be considered an elite coach. With what we have in place here on offense if he can come in and turn around the D we could have a pretty quick turnaround.
  10. Not sure Allen is a fit as wither a DE or a OLB, but the rest is possible. I happen to think Bostic and Jones would be a pretty good duo at ILB. I've always thought that one should be there for coverage (Bostic) and one for run support (Jones). Young should be solid of the edge, and while I think the 3 other guys you listed can be solid I'd be real tempted to draft one of the freaks at the top of the draft.
  11. I'm not sure we're really in a position to trade up or use a 1/2 pick on a qb if the new regime still wants cutler around. But ya, certainly a lackluster 2nd half sans the big run...broadcasters mentioned something about him hurting his hand in his last game but I didn't catch if it was his throwing hand or not, anyone know?
  12. I really want a defensive minded guy brought in and what's interesting is a lot of those guys, including Bowled who they plan on interviewing, run a 3-4 D. I smell the annual 3-4 defense thread coming around the corner.
  13. Mentioned his name in the other thread. If Cutler is no longer here then he's the most realistic candidate in the draft since I don't see the top 2 guys falling. He's a stretch at 7, and a risk to be gone in the 2nd so the bears would kinda be in a tough spot.
  14. Do some recruiting Kyle! Good thing the bucs already have lovie because I could see him wanting to coach mariotta(who I'm sure they'll pick).
  15. Jim Miller seems like a good comp to make. I've watched him twice this season and I like his poise in the pocket. He lacks any sort of mobility which could hurt him, but he did stand in there and take some hits while still delivering a good ball. I'm not sure he'll be a plug and play QB, but I also kinda don't expect Jay to be moved yet. If Jay is moved then I think Brett Hundley might be our best hope. If things stay the same as far as draft prospect positioning goes he's kinda in a tough spot. A lot of drafts have him in the 2nd round, but its possible he could go in the back end of the first or at the very top of the 2nd. Again if Jay is gone I'd love to drop as far down as possible to stockpile picks and snag Hundley. He is playing tonight against another interesting QB prospect, Jake Waters.
  16. Ya, admittedly this is the first time I've watched a full Bama game, but Collins sure hasn't made a good first impression. Could be the next Mark Barron.
  17. I tend to agree with Jason here. A guy I like who probably gets picked around the same time as Petty is Sean Mannion. Kid did work in a pro style offense.
  18. Well I mean the group they hired was hired by like a a third of the league last year so I dont think its really that big a deal.
  19. Ya I'd love to pick up a proven safety, he or Delmas would be nice. Also would love to pick up KJ Wright if he somehow hits free agency. Or I believe David Harris will also be a FA and he would be nice to have, esp if Rex Ryan is our head coach (he's at the top of my list). Believe or not the bears do still have plenty of money to go around so grabbing one or two of the 4 guys I mentioned would be huge. As for the draft, meh, I'm with Adam can't really see 2 safeties back to back. I'm posting from a tablet these days and I'm too lazy to really do my research on the draft just yet but I'm sure I'll get around to it at some point.

    Add Buffalo

Marrone wouldn't be the worst hire in the world. Buffalo didn't have a ton of talent and still managed to be a pretty good team..he's behind others on my list but he'd be up there
  21. I'm really hoping for Thompson. He also played some RB at UW and I think the ability to think like a RB will help make him really good against the run. He's also obviously athletic enough to hang in coverage as well. If coached up properly I think Jones-Thompson-Bostic would be a really good LB group who are ridiculously athletic. Might even be able to trade down a few spots to get him, and if he ends up being gone then chances are Collins or one of the tackles will be there. Everything changes if we switch to a 3-4 in which case I want one of Ray, Gregory, Fowler, or Beasley.
  22. That is a TON of football knowledge in that group. I like this a lot. I really can't imagine that Ted and company go against these guys recommendations, so at this point I am happy with the direction the search is going.
  23. Quinns specialty is the DL right? Well their DL is as follows Michael Bennett- Made 7M this year and had success before Seattle Cliff Avril- Also making 7M a year and had success before Seattle Kevin Williams- A former multiple time pro bowler Brandom Mebane- A 3rd rounder Jordan Hill- Another 3rd rounder I wouldn't say his DL is filled with a lot of late round draft picks and cheap free agents at all. Again, I'm not saying I'm against his hire, just pointing out that you don't want Gase because he has a ton a talent, well so does Quinn.
  24. Wouldn't Quinn kinda fit in that same "stacked team" convo too though? Certainly not saying I'm against his hire, I just wanted to point that out.
  25. Hiring a competent defensive coordinator is gonna help the d a lot IMO. There have been reports, or perhaps they were just speculative rumors that often times the lbs and safeties weren't on the same page and that is certainly believable when watching games. Get a quality DC in here and I think a lot of the problems in the middle of the d go away. With that said I agree that Vereen could be that guy at FS. I know this statement goes out the window with Emery gone but the bears did trade up to get him so perhaps they should give him a year to show who he really is. Athletically he's already there it's just all about getting him in the right position to succeed. I also honestly think Bostic can be the answer at MLB too but 1 more LB is certainly a must. Bostic, Jones, and new guy in some combo should be fairly good.
