  1. Peyton Manning is a helluva coach to learn from. Really though I have heard a lot of good stuff about him. He's said to be a no nonsense type guy which is a nice change of pace. Wouldn't have him ahead of rex, shanny, and bowles(who they will interview as well) though.
  2. You a Sox fan? A lot of people disliked KW but they now love Rick Hahn who worked under KW for years. It's just impossible for me to know how much involvement he had, or know what his credentials really are. Again there's gotta be something about this guy
  3. Maybe my comments were off base, but regardless, there's gotta be a reason why Ballard is being talked about as one of the top gm candidates out there. This isn't some loyalty type thing. To me unless you have insider knowledge into NFL circles, its really hard to judge these guys because we have no clue how much involvement they had with the real gm...Ballard must have shown something to be such a hot topic around the league
  4. I'd say because the talent was already there so they didn't spend high picks on the d. All I know is I really have no clue how to judge who would be a good GM, but all the guys who get paid to do so say Ballard is the top guy after DeCosta who probably isn't leaving Baltimore. He already turned us down last time, he seems like a pipe dream.
  5. And check out the packers list. They don't have a lot of football guys at all. Their list is filled with a bunch of finance and sales guys.
  6. Ya I'm with dabears here, everything I read about Ballard is positive . Also wouldn't you say the Bears drafted defensive talent fairly well in the Angelo era? What does this team need the most? Defensive talent
  7. Collins obviously makes the most sense but there has been a ton of Bama secondary players that have busted lately so he scares me a bit. HaHa has been average, Mark Barron was a huge bust, and there are a few more corners that have sucked. He's probably who they take if he's there but I kinda hope he isn't. I also have liked what I read about Holliman and Tartt in the 2nd round. My favorite defensive player in this draft is Shaq Thompson. Right now he's projected down around the middle of the first but I really think he's gonna be a riser and will be a legit top 10 pick. I've obviously supported going with one of the OTs if we go defense I'm hoping for Shaq. Everything changes if we happen to run a 3-4 which I doubt. I would love to get one of the freak OLBs at the top of the draft.
  8. For me ya gotta throw OT into that needs category as well. I may be alone on this but I STILL think Jay can be a well above average QB with a good OL in front of him. The OL gave up 41 sacks this year, that's just 3 less than the 2012 Bears... Think about that for a second, almost no one has talked about how bad the OL has been. Back in 2012 people were calling for a whole new line. This years team, in a scheme that calls for the qb to get rid of the ball quick mind you, had just 3 less. Getting Slaus back will be huge but Mills should be hanging out with me and my pal JWebb at a bar on Sundays. Really hope they bring in a guy good enough to play LT so they can move Jermon to RT, he hasn't been any good either. I've said it before, I wouldn't hate to see one drafted in the 1st. Look at the Cowboys, they had a historically bad D and yet still went with Zach Martin in the first.

    Ernie Accorsi

Everything I've read about this guy makes me think we no doubt got the right guy helping out here. Anyone read the book The GM? Apparently it was written about him.

    Next Year

    Ugh that's nasty.
  11. I'd have him 3rd (or 4th if you wanna include Harbaugh) behind Ryan and Shanny.
  12. I like the idea of Rex as well. You know the defense will improve and his Jets teams have never had any resemblance of a good offense. I still think the offense can be really good, even with Cutler as the QB. Esp. If we can improve the OL in front of him. I reached a point where even I hated the contract, but really after you look past the whole top paid qb in 2014, the contract really isn't that bad at all. I think people struggle to look past that though. When you look at it even further, I don't think it was possible to fix the D in one off season regardless of how much Jay made, so front load Jays deal, get the big hit out of the way and create flexibility for beyond this year. It wouldn't be shocking at all to see Emery go, but I wouldn't be outraged if he isnt
  13. I know for sure Jay had an awesome year under shanny. And looking at highlights of his time there they rolled him out a ton which is something that needs to happen here a lot more.
  14. Balta made a good post over on soxtalk about how the Garza signing could just be them using up money left on this years cap so it really could be insignificant when it comes to next year
  15. No shocker here. Question, what exactly does a team president do? That almost sounds like a silly question but really? I mean the GM and his scouting department are the guys who bring players in. Cliff Stien signs em. The coaches coach. The McCaskeya fund the team....what does Ted do? What will having someone different even mean? Does he simply help the GM? Like sign off on moves I assume? Serious question here.
  16. In pass protection, at least on paper (sack totals), he's been really good the last 2 years. Windy city gridiron does a sackwatch each week and they pegged Roberto with .25 (kinda odd) last year and just 1 this year. My only worry is that father time is undefeated and he's getting up there in age. It's just 1.5 million dollars as well so if we do get some new guys in here having him around for so little isn't a bad thing. Getting Slaus back, moving Bushrod to RT, and finding a LT (With Kromer gone maybe we no longer run the inside out stuff so maybe Long is that guyin which case another guard is needed) are far bigger concerns.
  17. Reggie Herring came over from Houston as well. Nothing I can really dispute here except that maybe he's being a little hard on Vereen. But I might just be saying that because he was my guy around draft time.
  18. I know Bill Polian, the "football czar" everyone dreams of is a big Jay backer so those who want Jay gone might wanna look elsewhere.
  19. With the salary going up I can certainly see some team taking a chance on him. Again his salary is really not THAT bad when you get past the front loaded portion. 20 mill guaranteed in this day in age is not bad at all IMO. And to put some numbers on that(now that I'm finally at a computer), next year he's going to be the 11th highest paid QB, the following 2 years he's gonna be the 9th....And that's not including the guys still on rookie deals and I'm sure there's one or 2 guys on the list whose contracts are up.
  20. Well in the situation where they can indeed trade him without giving anything up then I would be fine trading him. But only in that situation, and that's being said by Jays biggest supporter. Mongo already aludded to his pros and I really think those can be amplified behind a better OL and in a more balanced rushing attack.

Also the whole highest paid qb thing is a little overblown. His contract was front loaded. His average salary is 7th and that's with guys like Luck, Wilson, Newton, and Foles all still on their rookie contracts. Luck and Wilson will no doubt get paid more on average and with the cap going up its certainly possible that both Foles and Newton get paid more on average as well. So in a year or 2 he prob wont even be in the top 10 on average and def wont be near the top 10 that year because of the build of his frontloaded deal.

Another thing that's different from this years version of Romo vs previous years is they gave him an awesome OL in front of him. I still think that's the biggest difference between this year and last for bears, OL play. You can call it Jay getting tunnel vision or seeing ghosts or what have you but someone, whether it be Jay or Trestman seems to be dialing it back because the OL isn't allowing them to do what they did the year before. I think Jay with good protection can have a Promo type year...Evidence being in his pro bowl year he was sacked 1.8% of the time. This year its been 6.4% (last year 5.5)...This year when he's gotten time he's also looked fairly good, even though play calling still may have held things back in anticipation of bad OL play. Call me crazy but I wouldn't mind the bears going after Brandon Schreff or Ronnie Stanley in the first round and taking the Oregon center in the 3rd. That of course is only possible if they hit on some defensive players in FA (which they still have plenty of money to do so). Again that ideally means we bring in KJ Wright and Louis Delmas the take the best CB available in the 2nd.
  23. I agree with AZ in that you can't have this convo without talking about who replaces him. I'd also like to ask what you're trying to accomplish next year? Trying to win? Are we really in a better position with the likes of Mark Sanchez, Brian Hoyer, Mike Vick, Matt Flynn, or Jake Locker? We aren't getting Jameis or Marcus so are we better off with some other rookie? How are you getting to that point? Trading him? Cutting him? If you're cutting him and going with one of those fringy guys that's just gonna essentially make the qb position even more over paid because you're paying Jay and one of those guys. Are you wanting to rebuild? If reports are true where we'd have to give up a high pick to get rid of him wouldnt that kinda be opposite of what you'd wanna do in a rebuild?
  24. I think Shanny would be perfect for this team IF they wanna stick with an offensive minded head coach. Everyone wants this team to run the ball more, a Shanny lead team will do that. His teams success in the run game came large in part to his zone blocking scheme, Bears OL already implements one. If Jay is our QB next year I see zero problem with having a guy as the head coach who was able to get something solid out of him. Not sure how that equals catering to him. All that said I want a defensive minded guy to come in here and fix the D. Todd Bowles is the guy I'm lookin at. Bowles, had a lot of guys get hurt this year and his D is still phenomenal.
